OT: 11 Cars catch on fire during Dolphins Game caused by hot tailgate grill. One car was said to have $3,000 cash in it

Just another reason why charcoal grills are not a good thing to use when you don't have much time to tailgate (and you don't pour water on them when you are done).

Semi-OT: Great article on EA Sports College Football's return

the article is fun as it's a nice little bit of history around the game. not a lot of new news, i parsed it below:

A few notes / quotes:

July 2023 launch

Likely to only be available on next-gen consoles (this was news to me)

Likely to include 12 team playoff expansion

Link to audio assets submitted to EA, via FIOA requests - this is paywalled. Does anyone have access and did UCF submit? (https://www.extrapointsmb.com/ea-sports-college-football-audio-asset-tracker/)

Licensing is a mess because you can't just secure a bulk NCAA NIL deal for player names. So some teams have 'group licensing' plans in place, others don't, and teams use different agencies for the licensing so it's a patchwork to deal with. (editorializing: This seems like it is WAY more complicated than it should be.. CFB needs a commissioner BADLY)

Dynasty mode and career modes expected to return

No info on microtransactions

Again, article is worth a read even though the actual news here is sparse

***CB Corey Thornton: 'We're gonna be DBU' ⚔🏈

Corey Thornton is forecasting a big year for UCF's secondary. The junior cornerback is among a talented group of returners that include Davonte Brown, Brandon Adams, Divaad Wilson, Quadric Bullard and Justin Hodges. They're joined by Koby Perry, a transfer who was one of the to players at the FCS level.

We caught up with Thornton following Monday's practice.

He was very enthusiastic about his secondary.

"The whole DB group is gonna show out."

He later said: "We're gonna be DBU."

He was asked about Nikai Martinez standing out, but he reminded that the Henderson Twins are also doing well.

Who are the fastest players on defense?

"Davonte Brown is up there. Brandon Adams. And me."

They're trying to go undefeated this year.

"Defense wins games."

Asked about Mikey Keene's development, he sees him being more talkative.

John Rhys Plumlee is a great fit for UCF.

Kobe Hudson, Javon Baker and Ryan O'Keefe are formidable opponents. He has to bring his "A-game" every rep.

Deseret article: Moonshot: What BYU and UCF have in common as they prepare for new frontier

Interesting little read about the similarities of UCF and BYU including where we came from.

Need help dungeon

Need your help dungeon. I have recently joined the BOD for Salvation Army - Manatee county. We are raising money to expand the women’s shelter. We have an upcoming gala and really short on selling tables. I always like to get behind things I am promoting so full disclosure I have personally donated $5500 to get the ball rolling here.

Option 1 - do nothing :)

Option 2 - donate a small amount and help me show higher number of donors.

Option 3 - buy a table to this gala

Here is my social media post;

Hello Friends - I am here to ask you and the rest of Manatee county to join me in coming together for a good cause. We are looking for businesses or individuals to sponsor tables for the Salvation Army’s Evening of Hope Gala, 10/1, 7-11pm at IMG Bradenton . It will be a great evening for local business leaders and individuals to get behind this event aimed at raising funds for EXPANDING the WOMENS SHELTER.

I have recently joined the Board of Directors for Salvation Army-Manatee county and can tell you these are the folks that do good work and maximize funds that go to families! I am trying to sell this event out and show what we in Manatee county can do when we band together for a good cause. DM me if you are interested in sponsoring a table at the $1,500 or $2,500 level which comes with a lot of exposure and benefits. There are lower contribution levels available for those interested in lower donation levels. Some individuals choose to simply donate and some choose to attend. No DM necessary if donating only, but please DM me if interested in attending the gala.
If you are a leader in our community or more fortunate than many others this is a great way to show what goodwill can do. Thank you! Donation Link:

Thanks for any consideration!

UCF player wishes he had transferred to another school?

This was a reply spotted on an Instagram post from Kentucky Football highlighting quarterback Will Levis. The Wildcats are coming off a win at Florida over the weekend.

WR Javon Baker, UCF's leading receiver who played at Alabama last season, was committed to play at Kentucky until something unknown transpired and he was cut loose during the summer (he never officially enrolled at Kentucky). That's when he ended up at UCF.

Javon replied to this IG post with a sad face emoji. 😕

A fan replied, "you were ballin out on UL. Wish we had you in blue and white."

Baker replied, "same. 😕"
