2022 New Nike UCF Football Uniform Reveal: Friday 8/12

We know from the UCF Official account last Friday, that they will dropping the reveal/reactions to the new UCF Football Uniforms this coming Friday the 12th.

I think we can much pretty much confirm from the hints dropped by TMO, Jimmy, and Eric that we will see 2 new uni's: a BLACK Home jersey, and a WHITE Road jersey. They will do a separate reveal for the Space Uni's closer to October. I just posted on twitter, a breakdown of the likely small design detail choices and options we should be looking for when they drop the new jerseys:

OT: Need a place in Port St Lucie

My daughter has a contract in Port St Lucie working at a High School. The contract may or may not last the entire school year. She needs a place to stay Monday- Friday. Because she can’t drive 75 miles each way, every day. I am looking for a place that will do a month to month rental. I will probably book her an Airbnb for next week but that is not a good long term solution. Most apartment complexes don’t do month to month.

so here are my questions:
1. Anybody who is familiar with Port St. Lucie, are there any areas that she should stay away from?
2. Where can I look online where I might be able to find month to month rentals?
3. This is a long shot. Anybody have or know of a rental in port st Lucie?

The above four prospects also took OVs to UCF in June. John Walker is the big prize. It's been a UCF/Ohio State/UF battle with the Knights and Buckeyes believed to be neck and neck of late. UCF has a great chance to come out on top when he announces his decision this upcoming Thursday.

Braeden Marshall is set to announce on Saturday. He recently announced a top three of North Carolina, Wisconsin and Nebraska, though it's believed that could be a misdirection. UCF is still very much in the picture.

Deejay Holmes is a high priority target that UCF would love to officially have in the boat as a public commitment. I haven't communicated with him since June (he's hard to get ahold of), but Pittsburgh was considered the main competition.

Daidren Zipperer recently announced a commitment date - Sept. 24. Could be a UCF/South Carolina battle.

***Isaiah Bowser: 'We're going to be one of the best offenses in the country' ⚔🏈

Isaiah Bowser is ready to shine for his final season.

The UCF running back transferred in last year with the intent of having a big year and moving on to the pros, but injuries limited his capabilities so he felt he would best served returning.

We caught up with the Ohio native following Thursday's practice. Here's a recap:

Bowser said he's focused on being the leader and handling himself accordingly.

How is everybody looking?

"I think it's going great. The team is coming along, all the transfers. We're really starting to feel like a team now. I'm excited for the season coming up."

On freshman RB Jordan McDonald:

"He's going to be really good. He's good already. He's getting a feel for the game and the run schemes we have. He's a real hard worker. You can tell he wants to be great. I'm excited for his future."

What's his mindset for his final season?

"I'm all in. Every time I'm on the field, I'm going all out. Trying to be the best I can be. Prove that everybody, especially myself. Give it my all. Go as far as I can and be a leader."

What feedback he received from NFL scouts and where he can improve:

"The big thing was staying healthy. I've been doing yoga and stuff for that. Speed, I want to get faster. I think scouts want to see move around faster. Pass protection. Really everywhere in my game. I'm not perfect."

He said he "feels faster" than last season.

Yoga makes him feel "fresh" every day.

What does he think of the QB competition?

"Those guys are ballin' every day. I'm glad I don't have to make the decision. That'll be tough. Those guys can both play. They're both moving the ball down the field. They're both leaders. The offense trusts both of them to go out there and get the job done. They're really good players."

What's his outlook for the offense?

"I think we're going to be one of the best offenses in the country. Explosive, a lot of big plays. I don't see us getting stuck, not being able to move the ball and pick up first downs. I think we'll be able to continuously move the ball."

He was asked about the defense "dominating" the first scrimmage.

"I wouldn't say dominate."

He then talked about needing to get one back on the defense in this Saturday's scrimmage.

"We can't leave no doubt. Offense has to come out and take over from the first snap."

Games You Wish You Went To

Continuing our series on game attendance…

What is a game that you had an opportunity to attend, but decided otherwise, and now regret?

I’m actually more interested in the non-UCF ones.

To start, in the early fall of 2012, I passed on the opportunity to go to that years Michigan - Notre Dame game in South Bend.

I was working in Mishawaka, Indiana, just minutes from South Bend. During my time there I was able to trek to Akron on week 1 to see UCF play, but also had a weekend there where I could have gone to see that classic matchup. Individual tickets were around $200 on stubhub and outside of my tolerance at the time. But I should have sucked it up and bought a ticket, or at least gone to campus and experienced the gameday atmosphere. But youth, and the thought of ‘I’ll have a better chance with friends later in life’ became the mindset.

How about you? Any missed opportunities that sting in hindsight?

Perhaps missing Arkansas hosting and beating Texas, or something of that sort?

UF is hurt 😢

Florida football: We’ve got to stop saying UCF is better than Florida

Florida football had a down year last year. No doubt about it. And all of the team’s struggles and issues were summed up in a Gasparilla Bowl loss to UCF.

Some would think that in an obvious down year, where the team didn’t have their head coach, best QB was hurt, and hadn’t looked motivated since week 3, a bowl game loss wouldn’t carry that much weight.

Enter UCF fans.

After winning their fake national championship a few years ago, they’ve been trying desperately to prove to everyone how good they are. Now that they beat UF, they’re claiming that they’re the best team in the state.

Unfortunately, major media outlets seem to agree. CBS Sports HQ displayed their list of “best teams by state”, and the Knights came out on top in Florida.

Seriously guys, it’s getting ridiculous at this point.

I have no issue with people saying UCF had a better team than UF did last year. Florida played bad, unmotivated football, and the head to head game against the Knights proved it.

That’s great, nice Gasparilla Bowl rings.

This does not make UCF the better program.

Let’s start off with the lifeblood of football programs: recruiting.

In the past 4 years, where UF has not recruited up to their standards mind you, they’ve finished ranked 17th, 12th, and 9th twice. UCF on the other hand, who has been “emerging” have finished 53rd, 58th, 75th, and 60th. (via 247 Sports).

These numbers prove that UF is not only the much more established program, but their influence keeps pulling in elite players, while UCF can’t keep up despite their recent wins.

In terms of record the last 4 years, UCF does have a slight advantage. They’ve gone 37-12, and UF is 35-16.

2 more wins. Congrats.

But beating up on Tulane and Tulsa doesn’t compare to an SEC schedule year in year out.

Not to mention how overrated the Bounce House is. 45,000 once or twice a year doesn’t compare to 88,000 in The Swamp week in and week out.

Look, UCF can take their meaningless bowl win and run with it. They beat us last year. I won’t run from that.
But to sit there and try and convince a rational football fan that UCF is suddenly a better program than Florida is insanity.

***Camp Update with Offensive Coordinator Chip Lindsey ⚔️🏈

UCF offensive coordinator Chip Lindsey talks about the first week-plus of camp and goes more in-depth about the quarterback competition with Mikey Keene and John Rhys Plumlee. Could Thomas Castellanos be making a case as well?

Here's a recap of his 14-minute interview:

Thursday was the ninth practice so far as they get ready for Saturday's second scrimmage. They worked on red zone today.

He was "excited" about how they practiced the last two days. They had good attitude, energy and body language.

Season opener is three weeks from tonight. They "got better" today.

Asked about the QBs in the last scrimmage and what he wants to see improved:

During the last scrimmage, they made "good decisions" with no turnovers. "Put the ball where it's supposed to be for the most part."

Some one-on-one throws down the field need to be located better so they can catch it. It's all about "timing" and "trajectory."

It was a run-heavy scrimmage so they wanted to see who could block and tackle, but they needed to do better with down-field passing. But he did think "they handled the offense well" and only "had a couple mistakes."

Then he added:

"Thomas Castellanos has really matured. Him getting here early in January, you can see it's night and day from spring to now. That's what you want to see. When you work in the summer and now we're in fall camp, he just looks more confident. Excited about his progress.

"The other two guys are steady and they're both really competing at a high level. They're both locked in and dialed in. Pleased with their progress too. We'll see how the scrimmage plays out Saturday."

Asked to elaborate more on Thomas, he said he's a "self motivated" guy and the other QBs have had a positive influence. His attitude in meetings is night and day from spring to now, understanding how to study installs. Said Thomas was getting some work with the second team at times.

Asked about the defense, Chip believes they have more depth with the transfers. He "likes what he sees" from the defense. They push each other.

Mikey Keene put on 10 pounds during the offseason. That will help him with his throws down the field. He's a smart guy, so he knows where to go with the ball. That's his niche. He really understands where to put the ball.

Mikey has more confidence directing the offense, he also said Thomas was doing a nice job there.

The biggest area Mikey needed to improve from spring is being able to make plays with his feet, being elusive in the pocket when the look is not there, understanding protections and who is sliding where, so he knows how to move in the pocket and get out. And making good decisions on when to run and not to run.

"Each quarterback has their own skill set. They are what they are. The big thing is we want to maximize and use that to the best of their ability."

When he looks at the QBs, he wants to know if their eyes are in the right place and do they know where to go with the ball.

How has John Rhys Plumlee's decision making improved?

"He's improved tremendously from early spring to now." Said it's about "refining his every opportunity he gets."

Lindsey added that regardless of who is named starter, then you have to keep your job.

Camp can be a grind, especially for the young players.

Asked about chemistry between QBs and WRs, "it's better" although some WRs have been "limited in practice." It's all about understanding the timing and nuances of different players running routes.

"After Saturday, it will tell us a whole lot about who is ready to play. Every position, but really wideout. Javon (Baker) and Kobe (Hudson) are new, (Ryan) O'Keefe. That timing is something we're still continuing to work on."

Talking about RBs, after mentioning Isaiah Bowser and Johnny Richardson, he said he's been "really impressed" with R.J. Harvey returning from injury. "He's got a burst. He runs with a low center of gravity." Complimented Mark-Antony Richards and Jordan McDonald too.

On WR Javon Baker, the Alabama transfer:

"He's really talented. Big, physical guy. Can run. Really competes for the ball. That's what sticks out to me. He's good at attacking the ball with his hands. That really sticks out. He's still trying to figure out some things with terminology and knowing exactly about routes vs. coverage. You can tell he's a talented guy. It's about getting him up to speed on how we do things."

The QB starter is Gus' decision.

"You know when you know. I know he's said that before and he's right. Right now, both guys are having good days and they're both pushing each other. We can win with both of them. I think we can with all three if Tommy keeps progressing like he is.

"I know one thing. Whoever we decide is the starter, the team is going to be behind them. Like I told you, the guy has to play well and do well to keep your job. But that's at any position. The quarterback obviously gets magnified. I'm excited about both of them."

***OL Keyon Cox: UCF visit was 'perfect' 🏈

For Keyon Cox, his weekend official visit to UCF couldn't have been any better.

The Phenix City (Ala.) Central offensive lineman was on his way to the airport Sunday afternoon, but briefly spoke about his time in Orlando.

"I loved it," Cox said. "It was perfect. I'm talking about the love here, it's so family oriented. I can tell it's gonna be something special coming. They've really got something special going on here. They're so determined to be great. That's what I'm all about, developing and trying to get better every day. It couldn't get any better. I'm loving these coaches and they love me back. Also my family. I'm big on that. They took care of my family and took care of me. I will definitely be back."

Cox appreciated the extended one-on-one time with Herb Hand, who would be his position coach if he were to come to UCF.

"Coach Hand is a great coach," Cox said. "Him and his wife, they were loving all over my family and loving all over me. He's a very good coach. Yesterday we were at TopGolf and he taught me how to golf. I've never played golf before. I'm over there looking like a pro. I can't thank him enough. He's a great coach. I trust him."

Phenix City is just outside Auburn, so Cox was already very familiar with Gus Malzahn though this was the first time he was able to meet him.

"It was big," Cox said. "I just met a big (time) coach. A coach that knows what he's doing. He gave me a good message. We had a really good connection. It felt really good."

What stands out the most about UCF?

"I feel they can develop me in a good way," Cox said. "I'm going to give it a good thought when I leave here, just thinking about these schools. UCF is definitely one of my top schools."

Cox picked up his UCF offer in May. The Knights were the ninth school to do so, joining a group that includes Mississippi State, UAB, Troy Liberty, Arkansas State, Syracuse and Southern Miss. Cox recently camped at Florida State and visited MSU, UAB and Troy earlier this spring.

What's next?

"I might take a few more visits," Cox said. "My main concern is getting bigger, trying to bulk up. I might take an OV to Texas A&M. I don't know yet. We're still talking. I'll probably end up going to the Alabama camp next week. Those are the big two. Maybe UAB in July, head up there."
