OT - Looking to go to Iceland, help needed

I'm looking to plan a trip for my wife's birthday in March and we're thinking about going to Iceland. We really want to see the Northern Lights and all the other tourist stuff. I figured there's been more then a few Dungeon members that have gone and can give feedback and suggestions. We would go for between a week to 10 days and I would like to get a car so we can go where we want. I've been checking flights and can get Icelandair nonstop for about $1,300 in coach or $4,000 in what is their domestic first class seat for the 7 hour flight. Not sure if it's worth the fare difference for a 737 Max. I've see online that they used to take bids to upgrade. Does that still happen? I've got a half a million Delta points but it doesn't look like they fly there from here, at least when we want to go.

Again, I'd appreciate any suggestions for things to do and see as well as places to stay. I've got about 400K Hilton points so can use them in and around Reykjavik.

OT: Game Theory - ACC goes on the offensive

This is just game theory (a what if scenario).

The ACC has a GOR through 2036 and a TV contract for the same amount of time that will leave them well behind the SEC, Big 10 and possibly the new Big 12. All three will be able to negotiate a second TV contract before the ACC's current TV deal expires. That's the main reason their teams are looking to break out of the ACC. Assuming the GOR is as ironclad as it appears will a bold expansion open the TV contract for renegotiation while leaving the GOR in place?

While all the media attention is on Big 12 vs Pac 12 and will the Big 10 expand again the ACC works behind the scenes and pulls in 6 new Big 12 teams adding UCF, Cincinnati, West Virginia, Baylor, TCU & Houston. Would adding these markets and brands be enough to not only open the TV contract but put them within a respectable amount of the SEC & Big 10 contracts, around 75-80% (instead of the current projection of half to a third)? Have the new TV deal be for 5-7 years.

Fix the TV money and schools will stop looking at the exit, they'll be able to pull in the schools from the Big 12 and have them be willing to sign onto the incredibly long GOR and renegotiate the TV contract in a normal time frame.

OT: New home owner woes

Well fellas,

The new homeowner honeymoon is finally over. AC drain line had a clog (looked like gooey snake skin) and leaked into my walk-in closet. Drenching the carpet and probably into the walls.

I managed to undrain the clog with a wet vac and I ended up tearing up the carpet in the walk in closet. I'll be calling a water damage company for an assessment. So if you know any knight fans that happen to own water remediation companies, please let me know.

Worst part is I yelled at my dog thinking he pissed in the closet.

Welcome the newest Knight!

Baby Brielle was born yesterday 8/2/22 at 4:57 at a healthy 8 LBs 8 ounces. Labor was very quick and mlm She’s ready to #ChargeOn into the football season at the end of the month!

Fun side note: I’m at a hospital up in northern NJ and I’ve already talked UCF with the front receptionist this morning (Went to UCF and graduated last year) and a knight security guard last knight (he didn’t actually go there, but his friend did and he was surprisingly knowledgeable about the Big 12 move).

UCF Athletics fiscal year update: Record-setting revenue-generating year

Press release:

UCF Athletics recently completed yet another record-breaking year of fund-raising and revenue generation for fiscal year 2022 (that ended June 30, 2022):
  • The ChargeOn Fund, the fundraising arm for UCF Athletics, secured a record $43.8M in commitments and received $20.2M in cash.
  • The fiscal year featured a record number of ChargeOn Fund donors at 11,804.
  • The Shareholders Society, the major gift recognition program for UCF Athletics, grew by 51% (donors with a commitment of $25,000 or more over a period of up to five years).
  • UCF Athletics secured a $19.5M, 10-year FBC Mortgage Stadium naming rights agreement that begins with the 2022 season.
  • UCF Athletics doubled its number of corporate partners compared to the previous fiscal year.
  • UCF signed a $125M multi-media rights deal with Playfly Sports.
  • UCF enjoyed a record year in licensing revenue.
  • Meanwhile, fewer than 1,000 football season tickets remain for the Knights' 2022 season, potentially providing a third season (also 2019 and 2021) in four years for which UCF has sold its entire allotment of season tickets (also including student and visiting team allotments).

"This is an amazing time for UCF Athletics, as we transition from the AAC to beginning competition in the Big 12 Conference in 2022-23," says Terry Mohajir, UCF vice president and director of athletics.

"Our goal annually is to provide our student-athletes and coaches with the resources they need to compete for and win championships. The research we did for the Mission XII project provided us with additional benchmarks for us as we anticipate the move to the Big 12.

"We have plans for upgrades in facilities and other areas for virtually all of our programs, and so identifying resources is more important than it has ever been.

"Knight Nation has been an unbelievable partner in this venture, and we look forward to walking hand in hand with all of our UCF fans as we forge ahead."

On the fields and courts, UCF teams in 2021-22 claimed:

--American Athletic Conference titles in volleyball, women's basketball (regular season and tournament), softball (regular season and tournament) and women's indoor and outdoor track and field

--NCAA Championship appearances in volleyball, women's basketball, women's tennis, men's and women's golf, softball (and individuals in women's indoor and outdoor track and field), as well as a football bowl victory

--A 2022 NCAA super regional appearance in softball (after a #16 national seed and a title in the Orlando Regional) and NCAA first-round wins in women's basketball and women's tennis

--First-team All-America honors for Rayniah Jones in the 2022 NCAA 60-meter hurdles indoors and the 4x100 relay outdoors (joining Ciara Holback, Beyonce Defreitas and I'Asia Wilson). She won three events at the 2022 AAC Indoor Track and Field Championships and was named the meet's outstanding performer. Also winning first-team recognition in 2022 was Jada Cody in softball.

ROK and Bowser scheduled to join Twitter space (space currently live, edit: I think they aren’t joining tonight)

the space knights dudes said bowser and ROK are hopping on once they’re out of team meetings

edit: they said the guys had to cancel but may try to do it tomorrow. Sorry false alarm

As always I’ll listen a bit and try to drop in notes if anything interesting pops up. If you’re bored in and show the athletes some love

I’ll update the thread title and this post when/if they pop up.

Kemore Gamble was on briefly but didn’t chat at all

other notes:

Apparently the guys have a long running game of competitive tag during fall practice. It’s a few equipment managers, Austin Camden and a few players? I guess it’s on TikTok? Second ep of his podcast is out if anyone listens

C4 just promised to put a UCF hat on the table too when he does his decision day lmao. Says he loves UCFs coaching staff. Cool to hear that
