The traffic out that way is no joke. I knew it would be bad. Took me close to two hours of drive time and I had to detour on 192. The commitment was from an Airbnb home next to Champions Gate off Highway 27 in Davenport.

I got there around 5:30 or so. I was getting nervous because my Verizon signal was really bad out there, good thing they had wifi or else it might have been a whiff. I'm not sure how John's IG looked.

There were a few people from 247 and On3 there (no idea who they were). There was a Florida recruiting guy there, maybe 247? Chris Hays (Sentinel), Brian Smith (SI) and John Santucci (USA Today) also were there. We all interviewed John outside afterward which wasn't on the live stream (I'll post that soon).

What did I know and when did I know it? I heard this past Saturday that it was going to happen, but you always wonder how these things are gonna go. I really dislike those Crystal Balls, this would have been a lot more fun if it wasn't essentially spoiled in advance.

Biggest commit in UCF history? I think it is, just in terms of his elite-level status and the teams UCF beat to land him. Daunte Culpepper's commitment was pre-internet, I'm not even sure how that one transpired exactly.

I never really cared much about recruiting but we seem to be recruiting next level prospects so I decided I need to learn a bit about the rivals formula and what determines a prospects ranking

I’m sure most of you all know this but I didn’t so I’m sharing for the others that may not know either.

What does the numerical Rivals Rating (RR) mean?​

6.1 = Five-star prospect
6.0-5.8 = Four-star prospect
5.7-5.5 = Three-star prospect
5.2-5.4 = Two-star prospect
6.1 Franchise Player: considered one of the elite prospects in the country, generally among the nation's top 30-35 players overall, a potential first-team All American candidate and a player deemed to have first round NFL potential.
6.0-5.8 All American Candidate: considered one of the next-tier elite prospects in the country, generally among the nation’s top 300-325 prospects overall, a national All American candidate and a player deemed to have first to third round NFL potential
5.7-5.5 All Region Selection: considered among the region’s top prospects and generally among the nation’s top 800-850 prospects overall, a potential All-Conference candidate and a player deemed to have mid to low-end pro potential and ability to impact at the college level.
5.2-5.4 Low End FBS prospect: considered a mid-major prospect with limited pro potential and expected to contribute 1-2 years at a high level maximum or often as a role player.

Kissimmee (Fla.) Osceola four-star defensive tackle John Walker is narrowing down his options, focusing on five schools including UCF, Michigan, Miami, Ohio State and Florida.

He's been over to East Orlando many times and was back again this weekend for his official visit.

"It went well," Walker said. "I had fun with the coaches. I had fun being with the players. I was able to look more into the facilities. I live around here, so it was cool just hanging out and everything like that."

Continuing to build on those relationships was the best part of the visit, Walker said.

"Just having that bond with them. Talking ball with the coaches and just seeing how they are outside of football."

He's already close with Kenny Martin, who would be his future position coach if he came to UCF.

"I like Coach Martin, he's a good coach," Walker said. "We've been talking since my sophomore year. We talk for hours on the phone. We talk ball. We talk different things, not just about football. It's cool talking to him."

His player host for the visit was defensive tackle Ricky Barber.

"He's a cool dude," Walker said. "He's real. I like him as a person. He's honest with me. We had fun, had a good time. He's a good player too. He talked good things about Coach Martin. He told me to stay focused and do what you gotta do. Just enjoy the process and stuff like that."

What stands out about UCF?

"It's home," Walker said. "It's my hometown. The coaches are cool."

He loves the direction of the program.

"They're doing some big things," Walker said. "They're going to the Big 12. They're making some big moves. Big things are happening. Big-time players are coming here. By the time 2023 comes, with this coaching staff and the recruiting, UCF is gonna be big."

Walker will officially visit Michigan next weekend. He also plans to visit Miami (June 17), Ohio State (June 24) and Florida (Oct. 15) prior to his decision date of Oct. 22.

ORLANDO - UCF is picked third in the 2022 American Athletic Conference football preseason media poll announced today by the league.

The Knights (225 points, 7 first-place votes) finished behind only Houston (243 points, 7 first-place votes) and defending champion Cincinnati (242 points, 10 first-place votes).

UCF was picked to win the AAC in 2018, 2019 and 2020—accomplishing that feat in 2018. The Knight also won AAC crowns in 2013, 2014 (shared with Cincinnati and Memphis) and 2017 when other league members were predicted first in the preseason.

Took my son to fau for a college tour. Wearing my UCF hat. Of course they bring you to the stadium to look. The guide says our biggest rivals are fiu and UCF. I just looked at my son and said, really?

I am in FIU’s email list since a bought tickets from them once. Their season tickets in their club section are only $350. 😂

If the season started tomorrow. Who is one current player in college football that you would trade for that you would think would put UCF over the top?

Tampa (Fla.) Catholic 2024 four-star defensive lineman Xavier Porter was among the plethora of top recruits in attendance for UCF's "Knight Splash" event on Tuesday night.

This was Porter's second visit to campus this year as he also attended the spring game in April.

"I loved it," Porter said. "Originally, it was going to be a pool party. Since we got rained out, we took some photos and got to know the coaches a little more. Really just chopping it up with all the guys, talking about real stuff and life."

He loved bonding with the coaches and staff, including Kenny Ingram, Kenny Martin, Cole Heard, Clayton Geathers, Brandon Washington and many more.

"We all got along. It was great talking to everybody. It was so cool."

That included the head man himself.

"Coach Gus (Malzahn) brought me into his office when I checked so we could have a one-on-one," Porter said. "He said I'd be a great fit for the program and for the school. He's a really cool guy, very down to earth. He keeps it real and doesn't sugarcoat anything. A great stat about him is he's the only active coach that's beaten Nick Saban three times. That's kind of big."

UCF brought out the wow factor with a Rolls-Royce Cullinan SUV. Malzahn drove players around the stadium.

"You know we had to take a ride in the Rolls Royce," Porter said. "My guys I was with, we were like, 'Man this is fire!'"

What stood out the most?

"It was really getting to know the coaches and talking to everybody, seeing their vibe," Porter said. "It felt like a family there. It's really like a family environment at UCF. I feel like it would be a great college experience."

Porter also has a family connection - his mother and brother went to UCF. He attended the War on I-4 last season and "definitely plans" to attend more games this season.

Other early offers include Florida State, NC State, Louisville, Iowa State, South Florida and Wake Forest.
