UCF Baseball Players in the Transfer Portal

Thanks to @Russ Wood and his work with the Rivals Portal. The first four names entered the portal today, Ambos entered last week.

Benjamin Rushing
Brogan Napier
John Montes
Pablo Ruiz
Jason Ambos

Pablo Ruiz has been a big contributor in the past. Was a starter last year.

John Montes played a lot last season.

Women’s 400 meter hurdle record is absolutely shattered

Had to post it for track fans. Since June 2021, she brought the world record down from 52.16 to 50.68. It took over 35 years for a drop that large prior to her. Much more impressive since the race is much more competitive and established now. The times are much faster. One has to wonder what the limits are to human performance.

***Daidren Zipperer visits UCF: 'I love this place' 🏈

Lakeland (Fla.) wide receiver Daidren Zipperer said he can definitely see a future for himself at UCF after spending last weekend in Orlando on his official visit.

"It was love," Zipperer said. "Coaches showed love. Everybody. It felt at home. I felt the love walking in. It's the little stuff, like opening the doors for me. It started from there.

"I'm talking to Coach (Gus) Malzahn, he's telling me how it is here. I love how the players are... I was hanging out with Amari Johnson. I talked to Kobe Hudson, who came from Auburn. They showed me a lot of love."

Zipperer has been on UCF's radar for over a year. He was among a group of Lakeland players to visit last summer and the staff kept an eye on him all season. He said he's been building a relationship with wide receivers coach Grant Heard, who joined UCF's staff earlier this year.

"(Heard) contacted me in March before I even got offered by UCF," Zipperer said. "He said he loves me and wants to get me up here. Coach (Chip) Lindsey came to my practice one day. I guess he came back and told him how I was in practice. The next day (Heard) called my phone. I got out of 7th period 10 minutes early so I could call him. We're talking on the phone and he was like, 'We're gonna offer you a scholarship.' I was excited. That was my first big, big offer. I was really excited about it."

Zipperer now has more than 20 offers with the vast majority of those arriving this spring.

"I did pretty good this spring," Zipperer said. "In the spring game, I had four receptions for 150 yards and two touchdowns. This is the first year that coaches can come see me practice in person, so that was really big for me. In practice I finish every catch. I practice hard every play. They loved that and what I showed on film."

A big part of the UCF visit was learning about academics and possible majors.

"I want to study sports medicine," Zipperer said. "They took us to the academic center, showed us around. I'm big on academics. It starts there. They showed me where I'd be. The academic people showed the love too. They stay on you with grades. That's big for me."

Why sports medicine?

"That interests me because I want to stay in the sports field," Zipperer said. "I love football. I do this because I love it. It's not because of money. I love football. I'd do anything to get paid for it. I want to stay around the game as long as I possibly can, Lord willing."

Amari Johnson was his player host. On that Friday night, he watched the NBA Finals with a few of the players. That was a pivotal game for Golden State as they tied the series with the Boston Celtics 2-2. They've since taken a 3-2 series lead after Monday's victory.

"I got Golden State and Curry all day," Zipperer said.

Zipperer also got to experience the college social scene.

"We went to a little party, hung out," Zipperer said. "(Amari) showed me around. I met everybody. Everybody was cool to me like I'm already here. Like I'm a student here already. I fit right in. I can see myself here."

The food was pretty good too.

"We had Mission BBQ," Zipperer said. "To me, that was the best thing. I like the macaroni and baked beans mixed together. I'm that type of guy. They put it on the side, then I get it and mix it. That's my favorite meal of all time, mixing macaroni and baked beans together. I love that. That was my favorite thing. It's pretty good."

He met with Malzahn prior to departing on Sunday.

"He told me to take it slowly and enjoy it because you only get this once," Zipperer said. "He wants to me to be a Knight. I can feel it."

What stands out about UCF?

"It's a dream," Zipperer said. "The Bounce House. They call it that for a reason. The stadium is rocking. Everything is rocking. It's a great atmosphere. I can see myself playing here. I really can. I like UCF a lot... The players show love. The coaching staff, it's like I'm at my house. I feel comfortable already. I can talk to them about anything. I won't feel uncomfortable at all. That's really why I love this place."

Being a member of UCF's inaugural Big 12 team would be pretty cool too.

"That's big," Zipperer said. "Going to the Big 12, that's more exposure. It's big for me too. That's my first year coming into college."

Zipperer will take his second official visit to Pittsburgh later this week. He will also spend several days in Utah later this month visiting BYU (June 22-26), though that will be an unofficial visit. He has already visited South Carolina and North Carolina unofficially. He also plans to stop by South Florida and had plans to attend a camp at Alabama.

He said he was in no rush to make a decision.

"I don't know when my last official visit will be," Zipperer said. "I'm saving three for the fall. After my last official visit, then I will be making a decision. I might be dropping a top eight soon."

WOT - Live Sports Scores RSS Feeds

So trying to setup a DIY sports scoreboard marquee showing scrolling live sports (all sports) scores. Using a stretched (40") monitor and connecting to a pc. I have looked into being able to display what are called RSS (Really Simple Syndication) feeds that are available to show as a scrolling updates like you'd see on a marquee sign or similar at sports books, bars, etc.

Anyway, question for anyone that may be able to assist is helping to identify an RSS feed or some site or app that has horizontal scrolling of live scores or games yet to be played on a given day. ESPN has some RSS news feeds that I have been able to add that display sports headlines (https://www.espn.com/espn/news/story?page=rssinfo) but can't locate a specific one that scrolls scores. ESPN used to have their BottomLine app that would scroll like it does on their broadcasts, but that got discontinued sometime in the late 00's.

Let me know if anyone may have some leads, ideas. Appreciate it!

OT: Novel UCF Accoutrements and Knick-Knacks You've Collected Over The Years

Getting my Marie Kondo on and doing some house organization and purging this week while I'm off. I always enjoy looking back at old gear or mementos from time passed and reflecting back on when and where I got it. A lot of these were simply purchased on the novelty of the item and being excited to see a UCF logo in the wild. Here are some of my favorites.

First UCF hat I bought in 2005 freshman year. If you asked me the Knight head logo I absolutely love, it's this one. I could see this on the 50 and rival the lizards logo on cleanness. Hat has held up to a lot of road games as a throwback of sorts. When we rebranded in 2007 I was all in on new merch. Joust UCF logo makes me smile in how far we have really come.

I bought this tie in an Atlanta Cracker Barrel in 2009. I was so excited to see my school along the myriad of UGA, Tech, Clemson and Gator ties. Remember paying $20 for it and the cashier asking why I'd "want to wear a Central Florida tie. This for a losing bet?" I'll admit its a fugly tie but I loved that my school was represented.

My Russell Athletics bootleg Dr-fit. Bought this is a gas station in Ft. Pierce heading down to Miami for for a long weekend with friends in 2017. I wanted a Columbia or PFG fishing shirt before the trip as we were gonna take the boat out one day. In my quest for a a date with Earl of Sandwich and an inevitable bathroom break, I saw this beauty. Simple branding and pretty quality for Russell. For October games I rock this with a beisbol cap and some boat shoes and I'm cozy.

This is completely out of left field. 2013 War on I-4 fell on my 26th Birthday. I am blessed every 6 years with my birthday falling on Black Friday. My sister was a freshman at south florida so we were truly a house divided. My middle school aged cousins all wore respective gear and bamboozled me out of $50 for LIGHT UP UCF and were snagging cooler Lime-a-Ritas. Blackmailed me as I said I wasn't drinking with them too much and they proceeded to get a picture of me funneling LOL. We win that night and I take them all to Dave N Busters. We pooled all our winnings and got this plush hand to celebrate the win and it was gifted to me for my birthday.

What weird or novel knick-knacks do you have? #GKCO

OT: New Washer and Dryer and Extended Warranties

My washer and dryer are pretty old and the washer started making a bunch of noise. Instead of getting somebody to come out and look at it and try to fix it I decided the prudent thing to do was just buy new ones. Plus my wife wanted more room in the utility room so now I got stackables coming. Also currently you can by energy efficient appliances tax free. I did a little research and the LGs seemed to rate reasonably decent and Costco had a pair on sale, so I ordered them.

Costco automatically extends the Factory Warranties to 2 years from one year, but then they offer an extended warranty for $175 out for 3 extra years. So that covers from years 3-5. I use to never get the extended warranties but last time I had somebody come out to fix my fridge it was crazy expensive (way more than $175) for something simple. So I went ahead and paid the extra $175.

Do you guys get the extended warranties or not? And yes I know they wouldn't offer them if they didn't make money off of them, but it still seems like a piece of mind for $175.

OT: FAU is doing a Fan Day

2020 was COVID, and August 2021 was COVID again and NIL, so most schools canceled Fan Day events or just didn't announce/schedule them.

I guess you could say it's COVID again, but I'll be curious to see what schools try to do now. I just got an email form FAU touting their "Fall Sports Kickoff Celebration" which includes an open practice and football team autograph session.

Ashley Biden lies in her diary that Joe Biden showered with her

They had the fbi involved to get back the diary that was full of lies by Ashley Biden from the halfway house about showering with her dad. This after lies about Hunter being involved in crack binges with underage prostitutes. No way the repeating actions of drug and sex abuse would be a family problem of this family. Jill Biddn is a doctor for crying out loud.
