Another Football Clinic was Held Yesterday

For the last few years (except for last year due to COVID), the not-for-profit I direct, Central Florida Dreamplex, has partnered with the football team to host a clinic for kids and young adults with special needs and physical disabilities. In the past they have sent a busload full of players to us over in Lake County; this year we came to them and were hosted in the fieldhouse. We had over 60 participants from ages 5-adult with varying disabilities who were buddied up with the football players and led through skill stations. Since we were on campus for this year, they also got to tour all of the football facilities. All of the players were incredible and the parents were very impressed by how patient, thoughtful, and helpful they were. This was a volunteer opportunity for them, no NIL involved. Some of the notable names were Barber, Thornton, Pauole, Jordan Davis, Ward, O'Keefe, Bullard, and MAR, but there were many more. I think Keene may have stopped in after the Bowser clinic ended, but if it was him he kept a low-profile. T-Will and his daughters came to help out too and as expected, he was amazing! Just wanted to share another example of the special players and overall program we have! There are pictures and a video on UCF football's facebook and twitter accounts if you'd like to check them out.

Isaiah Bowser youth football camp

Held this morning! My 11 year old and his 2 buddies attended. Kids had a good time learning some techniques and lots of conditioning. They had 4 stations setup And the boys rotated through each section. They had all fundamental skill sets such as passing, running, blocking, snapping and punting. Mikey Keene was leading the workshop on throwing and was very good with the kids. Their favorite was the tug of war at the end! There was at least 50+ kids taking part in the camp today and Bowser said he may do another one in the future.

OT: NBA Playoff Court protests

I didn't pay much attention to these protests (animal rights activists upset with Minnesota Timberwolves owner's chicken farms) until I saw Twitter video of the latest incident. This security guard had a tremendous open-court tackle of a woman who was storming the court. Impressive.

Good thing nobody cares about WBB

Imagine if a men‘s team hired a new coach and they did nothing in their first several days. Messer has made one offer that I noticed to a 2024 player. No hires, no this year offers, almost nothing on social media. Paid a lot for a slow start. Again, you couldn’t do that if we cared more. Certainly we can say it doesn’t really matter we are in it for the long run, but I don’t like seeing us invest big dollars and then have no action. She should have built off the momentum of the hiring and engaged on social, been active!

Posting this because the pic of him pointing at “Isaiah Bowser 2021 UCF Highlights” on YouTube is funny to me

If anyone is curious it’s only 3:30 long. It would have been funnier if they made everyone watch a 20 minute epic highlight reel

Anyway everyone go back to screeching on the Disney thread

Jed May of UGASports.com caught up with Class of 2023 quarterback Malachi Singleton after his game on Friday night. He was there to chat mostly about his interest in Georgia, but UCF was part of their conversation. Big thanks to Jed for sending over the full video interview.

On his summer visits:

"It was good getting out and seeing colleges, trying to build bonds with coaches. I definitely look forward going to some games."

Which schools stood out?

"Definitely UCF. Georgia. Florida. Ohio State."

May then asked Singleton to comment more about UCF and what Gus Malzahn likes about him:

"He said he loves my game. He says I'm a perfect fit for his type of offense."

Then May name dropped Cam Newton in saying that was indeed a great statement coming from Gus.

"It's a great compliment. He's coached a lot of great college QBs."

He goes on to speak a little bit about Georgia, which you can read in his story below.

As a high school junior, Singleton is in no rush to make a decision but says he will commit prior to his senior year.

***UCF stands out to Orange Park OL Roderick Kearney***

t2ayfoexagihsxfbyf0b

Orange Park (Fla.) offensive tackle Roderick Kearney loved his time at UCF on Saturday at "Hometown Hero," the mega recruiting event aimed towards the Knights' top rising prospects.

"I had a great experience with the coaches," Kearney said. "I brought my family with me, my mom, my cousin and my brother. They had a great time and I had a great time as well... I liked the way the coaches were hands-on with the players. It wasn't just a big group, individually we got to talk to the coaches and experience what they have to offer you."

Kearney spent an extended amount of time with UCF offensive line coach Herb Hand.

"Coach Hand has always been a great dude," Kearney said. "He's somebody you can talk to. I feel as the years go on, whatever school I commit to, he's still going to be in touch. And if I do come here, I feel he's going to develop me into the player and man I need to be."

UCF head coach Gus Malzahn was not on campus for the event as he was tending to his wife Kristi who has been hospitalized with an infection.

"I really respect him for that," Kearney said. "Instead of being here, he's with his wife because she really needs him."

UCF's coaches are perhaps the biggest reason Kearney has such a high interest level in the Knights.

"I feel like UCF is turning around as a program," he said. "UCF has always been a great program. The coaching staff, with Coach Malzahn and Herb Hand, they're really turning this program to where it needs to be."

Kearney has a long list of offers in addition to UCF, including Arkansas, Auburn, Cincinnati, Duke, Florida, Florida State, Georgia, Georgia Tech, Kentucky, Maryland, Miami, Michigan, Michigan State, Ole Miss, Nebraska, NC State, Oregon, Penn State, Pittsburgh, South Carolina, Syracuse, Virginia Tech and West Virginia.

"As of right now, the schools that stand out to me the most are UCF and Florida State," Kearney said. "Schools may come and go, but at the end of the day you've got to choose one. The ones that have the most interest in me and I have the most interest in them, they'll get me."

What does he like about FSU?

"It's kind of the same (as UCF)," Kearney said. "They both have really good programs and really good coaches. It's all a brotherhood."

Kearney, who also visited FSU in January, hopes to check out a few more schools this spring before locking down official visit plans.

"I'll be going on official visits in the summer," Kearney said. "I think I'll make my decision around December and early signing day... It's gonna be a really hard decision. I pray about it every day. God will lead me where I need to be. I have some really good parents on my side to help me."

The Athletic fan question: Now that Texas and Oklahoma are gone, who do we hate?

32qysp.png

…..UCF will make you angry at some point. Just ask all the Alabama fans still seething that the Knights declared themselves national champs in 2017. The beauty of UCF fans is that they embrace the hate. Their school spent so long searching for relevance that the fan base correctly understands that beef equals attention. They will take your anger at them and then double down, which will only make you more mad. You’re going to throw so many tortillas at them through the years.

OT: Marc D notes new $5 Million "Recruiting" Directive Fund by Gator Boosters has nothing to do with NIL

On today's Bridge segment....Marc helped educate Bianchi on how this new multi-million dollar Directive Fund by rich UF Boosters has nothing to do with NIL and is just a fund to recruit the best players whatever is the going rate.

UF Grad Attorney who set this up announced his fundraising yesterday:

Of course, NIL was set up to reimburse a current student-athlete (i.e. after they sign and/or enroll at said school) $$$ for offering their services and/or appearance to various businesses and/or groups.

Now...Directives like this are set up because there are ZERO rules in place and how this is all about recruiting HS and Portal Transfer players to your school.

Daniels notes that in some states...Directives are soon to be targeting HS Juniors, Sophomores, etc...to get them these deals with something like 50% upfront and another 50% when you enroll at said school.

This great discussion starts at the 11:25 min (you can fast foward/jump to that mark).
