Journalistic integrity at a new low: Clapton

So, I've had to deal with German law for nearly 3 decades. Zealous lawyers constantly make issues for us in open source.

The Washington Post left out an important tidbit, to purposely demonize Clapton. Under German IP law, zealous lawyers don't even have to get Clapton's permission to bring a suit. They can bring an IP infringement lawsuit against anyone, and then expect payment out of the settlement when they bring it to Clapton.

Understand the US media has gone full on demonization of Clapton because he refuses to play in avenues or locals that mandate vaccines, not that he is against vaccination. He is utterly being smeared, and this is the state of journalism in the US now.

He doesn't even have anything to do with these lawsuits in Germany, and cannot. German IP enforcement is very draconian in that even the actual IP holders don't get a say in many cases.

Bowl Game on ESPN+???

So, not sure how many of you use YouTube TV as your TV provider, but as of today… they are in a feud with Disney so they lost all the ESPN channels.

I use them and am concerned that I won’t have the game for a watch party I’m hosting. That said, I have ESPN+. Do any of you know if the game will be shown on that? I’m not sure how ESPN+ treats main ESPN broadcasts. Does anyone know?

Thanks!

Baylor partners with Waco to build new basketball arena

Says it will break ground next year and be ready by Jan. 2024.

==

The city of Waco will partner with Baylor University to fund a $185 million home for the university's basketball teams on the downtown riverfront, one that would double as a city-run performance venue and anchor a larger development.

The Waco City Council will vote Tuesday on an agreement to seek $65 million in Tax Increment Financing Zone funding for the Paul and Alejandra Foster Pavilion, which is set to break ground in June and wrap up by January 2024.

The Baylor University Board of Regents is set Monday to approve funding for the 7,000-seat arena that athletics officials say will improve fan experience and sightlines for their highly successful teams. The facility will also include a development center for men's and women's teams and offices for coaches.

Apopka (Fla.) four-star cornerback Nikai Martinez made his first-ever visit to UCF a week ago, then returned this past Friday as an official visitor during Bounce House Weekend.

"I had a great time," Martinez said.

He gave a brief recap of the activities.

"We got there on Friday and first chilled for a little while," Martinez said. "Then we went out to eat and took pictures in the stadium. Saturday we did a lot of stuff, like an eating contest, there was a karaoke night and a rap thing, a scavenger hunt around the campus and a bunch of other cool stuff."

Martinez said his group won two of those competitions: The picture contest and also Family Feud.

He says he spent the most time with co-defensive coordinator and secondary coach David Gibbs.

"We talked a lot and not all football stuff either," Martinez said. "They were saying they like how versatile I am and how I'd have a better chance of seeing the field early because I can play every position in the secondary."

Gibbs told Martinez he would fit in perfectly though as a corner or nickel.

His host was Divaad Wilson.

"He was real cool, showed me a good time," Martinez said. "He kept it real with me the whole time. He told me how it was."

Joining the festivities on Saturday was a large group of unofficial visitors, many of them local.

"I knew the Henderson twins, Kaven Call goes to Apopka with me, Payton (Kirkland)," Martinez said. "And of course I met a lot of other people too."

Favorite part about the visit?

"I'd say everything," Martinez said. "I had a really good time. If I had to pick out a couple things, I guess I'd say the photoshoot, the scavenger hunt and all the events we did on Saturday. Also, hanging out with the host and the players."

Martinez said it was honor sitting down with head coach Gus Malzahn.

"I really like Coach Gus," Martinez said. "I've known him for a while, ever since my freshman year and he was at Auburn. We have a good relationship. He was basically telling me how he's trying to make UCF a national championship team and all he needs is a few people to help him get started. Let's take UCF where it's supposed to be. He brought up the College Football Playoff expansion. Now that they're expanding it, it will give UCF a chance to show they can play with the big dogs."

Martinez wasn't ready to name favorites yet, but said there's a lot to like about UCF.

"It really opened my eyes," he said. "I had never been to UCF before Coach Malzahn and the new staff got there. People around the area wouldn't usually think UCF was much of a big deal, but being on campus and around the coaches and players, it was so much fun. I had a good time. The facilities, just everything was great."

Martinez said he's no longer visiting Notre Dame this upcoming weekend, but still has an official visit to South Carolina June 25. He will likely take another unofficial visit to Florida before the month is finished.

"I'm just looking for a good coaching staff that knows what they're doing and has a history of developing players that make it to the next level," Martinez said. "I want a staff that will help me become a better man on and off the field. A family-based team where the coaches and players get along with each other."

As for a commitment, Martinez says he's no rush but could have a decision as early as July.

***UCF's Brandon Johnson will finish career against familiar foe***

Wide receiver Brandon Johnson is ready to go one final time in the Gasparilla Bowl against Florida.

UCF hasn't played the Gators since 2006, but Johnson does have extensive experience against UF having spent the previous five years at Tennessee, one of UF's biggest rivals.

"We're just excited to play them," Johnson said. "They're obviously a talented group of guys. They have been for many years. A real storied program. It's always fun getting to play against those guys. No matter what uniform I'm in, it's always fun to play Florida. Looking forward to the challenge."

The game, which will be played Dec. 23 at Tampa's Raymond James Stadium, sold out in record time.

"I've said it before, we've got the best fans in college football," Johnson said. "It's exciting to know we'll have a bunch of Knights in the crowd cheering us on. It'll bring us a bunch of juice and energy. I'm excited about it."

Johnson has 11 career receptions against UF, including four catches for 40 yards in their 2020 matchup. As an older player, Johnson says most of the UF players he knew are no longer there.

"I did (know players)," Johnson said. "I had a lot of (high school) teammates that played there, but they've since moved on."

Johnson's final season at UCF will go down as his career best with 38 receptions for 565 yards. His 11 touchdown catches lead the team as well as the American Athletic Conference, good for No. 9 nationally. At Tennessee, he only had one touchdown in five years.

"It was awesome," Johnson said. "All glory to God. I couldn't do it without God, plain and simple. I was more happy to have a positive impact on the team. I was happy I was able to contribute on a game-to-game basis. By the time I'm out of here, I hope I can have a lasting effect on the guys here. I'm glad to have that kind of impact."

Johnson is also excited they'll be closer to full strength come game day. The team limped to the end of the season with a multitude of injuries on both sides of the ball. Offensively, that group included running back Isaiah Bowser, wide receiver Jaylon Robinson and center Matt Lee.

"You guys all saw at the beginning of the year what we were capable of when we had a lot of guys healthy," Johnson said. "I'm excited. We're gonna get their best shot and they're gonna get our best shot come Dec. 23. I'm excited."

A win would mean a lot.

"This is a great opportunity for the school and the university," Johnson said. "A great opportunity to put us on the map a little bit more. I'm excited for that."

About to put a final wrap on his six years as a college football player, Johnson it will be "bittersweet."

"I love it here. I wouldn't trade this for the world. My time here is up. It is what it is. I'm excited to go out there one more time."
