Please don't confuse people with facts.
Slavery was AOK under the American flag for nearly a century, atleast until we needed to kill the South's economy. That was a lot longer than the Confederate flag was legitimate. Right wing looney evangelicals use the cross to support their hate towards gays, soldiers, pretty much anyone that doesn't agree with them. Some jews do the same. Islam says women should be second class citizens and not be seen. Liberals use their "acceptance of everyone" motto to bash and discriminate against anyone that doesn't agree with them. Do I need to continue?

I'll say it again, I don't support the flag but we are just supposed to act like history never happened. We are to forget that that flag was one of several official flags of those states? If you people are so outraged that a confederate flag is at a confederate memorial on state grounds in South Carolina, where is your outrage for Alabama, Texas, Arkansas, Mississippi, Tennessee and Virginia? All those states have confederate memorials, some with flags on state property. There are literally hundreds of these monuments across the south on county and city land as well.
If the shootings took place in California, would any of you be complaining about South Carolina right now?

I also know that for some, those confederate memorials are where their grandparents and great grandparents are recognized. Its part of history, when a see a moron flying a rebel flag behind their truck I usually laugh at them and it also helps me identify a moron without looking hard. To me, the only place a rebel flag should be flying is on state, county or city land, at memorials.
BT it is because they don't know what they are talking about. The low estimate of deaths during WWII was 22,000,000. I think people forget that the swastika was more than just a crime against Jews. The swastika is not seen in Germany for much more than them murder of 6,000,000 Jews.

Here is an undisputable fact: there are millions of black Americans living throughout the south. Most all of those people have experienced racism at the hands of racists and their older family members lived through absolutely awful periods. The Confederate Flag, without question, has been used by white racists and surpremists as a rallying symbol to project hatred and racism. Period. Trying to deny this makes you an ignorant asshole.
Frankly I don't give a shit what your view on the flag is. Go ask any black person living in the south what it means to them and you'll get a near uniform answer: it stands for racism, hatred, and marginalizing them as a person.
So if you're comfortable supporting a flag that stands for the absolute WORST in America to every black American then fine. Just understand this by definition makes you an ignorant bafoon who at least enables racism, if not outright supports it.

I have said many times in this very thread that I don't support the flag, I support that flag as part of American history. I also don't believe that the flag is what killed those nine people any more then I blame the gun that was used.

Any news analyst over 75 years-old will tell you that's the problem with firearms in the US, not the firearm itself. It's that we make criminals into rockstars. Heck, Rolling Stone was complete overt with it's "pretty boy bomber" cover, showing that firearms themselves have nothing to do with it.
Until we reverse this trend in our media, there will be more. We have to focus on the victims, and never, ever say the name of the criminal.

Clementa Pinckney's body will lie in state at the Capitol building this week and on the same grounds the confederate flag will be flying high. The same flag the killer posed with on his website. The killer, like many people see the confederate flag as a symbol of racist hate.
What about the American flag that flies over the same building? It supported slavery for nearly 100 years and racism and dicrimination for 200 years. If the North could have won the war quickly and kept slavery they would have. A lot of the world see it as a symbol of hate and death.

The cross is literally recognized across the world as a symbol of Christianity. A symbol of Jesus Christ's death and resurrection. Exactly .0000000001% of the world's population would ever associate a Cross with the KKK or other surpremist groups that hijacked it for their own usage. Moreover, black Christians associate the Cross with Christianity. NOt the KKK. I would have thought you'd understand this considering these people killed were.......black Christians in a church with a Cross over top.
This is not in any way comparable to the Confederate flag. The Confederate Flag, to most people in this country, and to nearly 100% of black Americans, stands for hated, racism, and bigotry. Period. To black Americans, flying the confederate flag is really no different than calling them a n*gger. This is not conjecture, this is actual feedback that black people have been providing for decades.

No. He had no known psychological issues, this is just the excuse we use in this country to justify mass killings and violence. We need to stop being afraid to change the conversation in America. We spend trillions of dollars and thousands of lives to fight international terrorism which may or may not have any direct effect on Americans. But when an American attacks and kills Americans, "he's just mentally unstable, it's so sad."

We've had wars with Mexico, England, France, Spain, Germany, Japan, Canada, etc, etc, etc but it's AOK for their flags to fly in America. Our country was created by a revolution, why is the South so evil for trying to do the same thing?
