You get what you pay for ... in most cases. That said, economies-of-scale have made some really solid, sub-$1K and definitely sub-$2K options. That's why the AR platform has become so viable, and not really at any reduction of accuracy. There are plenty of more costly semi-auto platforms out there that aren't as good, and even bolt-action systems are not always good either.
