Portal Losses

All the HYPEl guys are jumping ship. Makes sense why UCF plummeted during the second half of the season. These guys were playing half azz.

LOL at those saying Mikey "quit" the team.

I do feel that JJB was one of our better LBs. However, if we retain Brandon Jennings and Jason Johnson and sign Troy Ford and the incoming LB twins, JJBs departure should be painless.
Sure, but All of these transfers end up being depth issues once the injuries start piling up.

The days of seeing players for 3-4 years are over. This is just the norm now. You can have a totally different team year to year. At least will have more money for deals in the future.
I think the Good news is a lot more upsets in college football will be the trend as players move up/down to maximize playing time.

Definitely a different vibe all around, though. Gets hard to cheer for players

I think it was clear before this season started that this would be the last year where we had Ryan OKeefe as a member of our team. Although I projected that he would be trying his talents at the NFL level instead of transferring, the net effect is the same.

He did serve and represent UCF well during his career.

That being said, with the options provided by the talent of Javon, Koby, Xavier Townsend, Quan Lee, Deonte Marks, Jordan Johnson, and others we are in a good position to continue as a very talented and deep receiving corps.

Depth? So far we are losing one talented linebacker. For next year we are bringing in four new talented linebackers. Three highly sought after recruits plus Jennings who sat out to preserve his redshirt. Mathematically, that looks like an increase in depth to me.

I was surprised to see Jennings still listed on the roster. For some reason I thought he was gone like Terrence Lewis. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Based on the clock comment I'd say Quan Lee is gone as well. Also based in his comments on Twitter Amari Johnson will probably leave, but now that looks wrong, so who knows.

Hodges was the worst. Amazes me they never put someone else out there. Every big play he seemed to be highlighted for being out of position or getting burnt. Did they save Martinez and the Hernderson twins' redshirts? Because can't imagine why they didn't get out there more even with lack of experience.
2nd worst. Thorton was burned and often looked like the player your gf plays in playstation where they run randomly away from the ball

You could be right. As I mentioned a couple of days ago, we may lose several wide receivers. This is mostly a result of the fact that we have an overly deep wide receiver corps. Thus, I feel we can afford to lose several wide receivers and still have a deep roster at that position.

I think we over recruited the position last year. It seemed like overkill to bring in three talented freshmen and two high level transfers, for a total of five incoming receivers all in one year. So yes, this may lead to some exodus.

Headcount-wise, sure.

But what I mean to say is we bring in kids who are Talented, but unproven. Some will develop enough to start, others won’t - heck, just look at this year.

Imagine if everyone stuck around - it would be so nice to have backups that have playing time and not a constant revolving door of people new to the team to lean on when 2-3 people are hurt.

I'm glad he's still with us. He is clearly very talented and can create some havoc, although it looked like he still was learning our defense.

Hopefully we can keep him. If he stays, it may prove to be a huge benefit that he sat out after four games this year and preserved an additional year of eligibility.

A lot of fans sure seemed to be hyped up for players that have done nothing and indifferent to players that had the most production on the team and were leaders in the locker room.

Is it going to still be blame Heupel on year 3 of Malzahn?

Unproven sure. But they also have not been proven to be unqualified to start or be rotational. So let's not assume that they aren't, especially when their film indicates that several of them can provide immediate quality help.

We all knew that we needed better linebacker play. We can't get better without change.

Per PFF Brown has a 82 rating in 2021 and 66 in 2022. Make you wonder if it’s a motivation thing with a lot of these guys as most of the defense is the same as it was a year ago when they were the strength of the team. I definitely didn’t see a single player on defense that looked improved over their 2021 performances.

They quit on the team long before they announced it publicly.

When I was growing up, my coach told me "Quitting is like sucking d*ck."

That may not sound like a deterrent to this current generation, but at the time it was...

The point is, for these outgoing transfers, quitting gets easier every time you do it and they will quit again.

Now, for the incoming transfers to UCF, those guys are hard fighting soldiers you want to be in a foxhole with!

Brown did not get worse from 2021 to 2022. The difference is that in 21 teams were more respectful of his speed because he was never out of position.

However, teams began to recognize that despite his great speed, he had a big problem with trying to turn around and find the ball. Thus, they decided to go after him and exploit that weakness this season.

This weakness was nothing new as it was clearly visible even in 2021. While many were lauding him with accolades in 21, I was very concerned that he needed to learn to turn around and attack the ball or else teams would find a way to exploit his inability to do so. What happened with Brown this year is what happens when you fail to fix bad tendencies before they become bad habits that are then very difficult to change.

The DLine improved but lacked any depth. Jason Johnson made an immediate big impact at LB. Safeties improved. Everyone else seemed similar to last year.

If the DL and safeties improved, the Lb was solid and everything else was the same then why was our defense good last year and terrible much of the time this year?

Exactly. We saw enhanced talent on the d line and LB levels but just need additional depth. We are bringing that in, and if John Walker signs, that will be a huge tandem along with Lee Hunter who was regularly getting double teamed this year.

Overall, DB play was dismal this year. However we brought in three excellent DBs as freshman this year and now they have a season under their belts to add strength and get acclimated to our defense. Additionally we are bringing in at least a couple more high level cornerback recruits this year to increase depth and competition. I also would not be surprised to see us add one or two DB's from the portal.

We are seeing our defense being improved and overhauled before our very eyes. This was needed and could not have happened too soon.

This. Our defense can only improve, thus i have no concerns starting the youth next year.

In Gus We Trust.

i feel he is going to rebuild this team.

First year in the Big12 is going to be interesting. Bowl game is obviously going to be used to get the rookies playing time. Then lets see where incoming freshman and transfer portals do. Gus has been preaching all year that they are embracing the transfer portal and I believe he is a great recruiter. x's and o's need to improve but Recruiting he is great at. (knock on wood).

Goodbye to the players that are transferring. Good luck where ever you land. Thanks for the memories.
