For the sake of this discussion, let's ignore for a moment the fact that our NATO allies have all acknowledged the same, exact intel and approach this as a serious leak that might have life-threatening consequences.
How would a normal leader respond to the leak as well as the information that was leaked?
Would it be by responding with: "I cannot speak to the accuracy of anonymous sourcing of reportedly classified information, but I would like to assure the American People that IF our intelligence were to determine that bounties were placed on the heads of our brave military men and women by ANY country, the United States would respond appropriately to such a heinous act."

At this point, the validity of this is under investigation. They found $500,000 in the Taliban’s possession. The NY Times is breaking the law by risking our National Security and they have been wrong before

Especially since the previous President destroyed a good portion of our deterrent as part of a treaty the Russians had no intention of following up their side on and instead increased their stockpile. Which is even more frustrating since we were actually giving them money as part of Nunn-Lugar to finance the destruction.

Russia isn’t even the threat that everyone’s planning for. Beginning in Obama’s second term, we started a pivot to the Pacific theatre with our primary threat being the major superpower in the region.

Its utterly ridiculous that you think the president should come out and announce to the world what our countermeasures are.
Countermeasures? Hell, Trump hasn't even addressed the notion that ANY foreign country -- Russia or Iceland for crying out loud -- would dare put bounties on the heads of our brave men and women serving in Afghanistan.
