Guns don't kill people. People with guns kill people.
Imagine holding your finger up to your head and saying "POW!". Are you dead?
Now, imagine holding a loaded gun to your head and - safety off - pulling the trigger.
The issue isn't black and white. There isn't one solution. Sensible - actually sensible- gun laws won't prevent ALL deaths or even mass shootings. But it is reasonable to expect it would reduce them. The argument against any sort of gun regulation shouldn't be "well, it wouldn't prevent this situation specifically" or "it won't prevent all shootings/mass shootings" or "some would have still died". Nothing is perfect. But something is better than nothing.
Conservatives AND Liberals need to understand this. I have far too many conservative friends who balk/mock/plug their ears when it comes to ANY discussion of gun laws. And I have far too many liberal friends who support measures that are asinine and ill-conceived as all FCK. But, until we are ALL willing to give a little ground on our supposed core principles, this will continue to happen.
It's guns
It's mental health
It's male masculinity
It's poverty
It's a myriad of issues at play. And because these problems are complex and complicated doesn't mean we should just throw our hands in the air and say, "**** it". We shouldn't retreat to our partisan corners in times like these. We should meet in the middle, shake hands, get a beer and discuss ways that COULD be positive steps in the right direction.
tl/dr blah blah blah same shit different day.
