Utah to face Miami in 2027 Vegas Kickoff Classic

ESPN Press release:

U Need to be There: 2027 Vegas Kickoff Classic to Feature Historic First Meeting Between Utah and Miami

LAS VEGAS – The University of Utah will meet the University of Miami on the football field for the first time in ESPN Events’ 2027 Vegas Kickoff Classic at Allegiant Stadium.

The historic, interregional matchup between the Big 12 Conference and ACC powers is set for Labor Day Weekend 2027. Game date, time and network will be announced at a later date. It will be the third Vegas Kickoff Classic, following Arizona vs. BYU played in 2021 and the much-anticipated USC vs. LSU blockbuster will make up the second edition on Sunday, Sept. 1 at 4:30 p.m. PT (7:30 p.m. ET) on ABC.

“One of the great things about college football is that there are still first-time matchups like this one to capture the attention of fans across the nation,” said John Saccenti, executive director of the Vegas Kickoff Classic and SRS Distribution Las Vegas Bowl. “We have a frequent visitor to our city in Utah playing a national brand like Miami for the first time ever at one of the world’s greatest football venues. The Battle of the ‘U’ -- the ‘U’ of the West against the ‘U’ of the South facing each other in the Sports and Entertainment Capital of the World -- and we cannot wait.”

The Vegas Kickoff Classic is owned and operated by ESPN.

Mark Harlan, Director of Athletics, University of Utah
“This is a tremendous showcase for our football program and our university to open the 2027 season on a national stage in the Vegas Kickoff Classic. We are excited for this opportunity to match up against the Miami Hurricanes, and we extend our thanks to the Las Vegas Bowl and ESPN Events for the invitation. It is a testament to our program and our great fans to participate in this type of event, and when the time comes, we will paint Allegiant Stadium red once again.”

Dan Radakovich, Vice President/Director of Athletics, University of Miami:
“We are excited to kick off the 2027 season against Utah in the Vegas Kickoff Classic. It not only gives our program an opportunity to play a great non-conference opponent on a national stage, but also gives our fans the chance to cheer on the Hurricanes in a world-class venue at a destination location.”

OT: Couple takes toddler & baby on the boat for 4th of July fun in extreme heat, baby dies, family gets $50K on GoFundMe

LAKE HAVASU, Ariz. (AZFamily/Gray News)– A 4-month-old baby died from heat-related complications following a boating trip in Arizona over Fourth of July weekend.

According to the Mohave County Sheriff’s Office, the family was boating on Lake Havasu when the baby became unconscious around 5:10 p.m. on Friday.

According to AccuWeather, the area hit record temperatures, reaching a high of 120 degrees. An excessive heat warning was issued.

The baby was rushed to Havasu Regional Medical Center and then airlifted to Phoenix Children’s Hospital.

The sheriff’s office said the child died a short time later.

A GoFundMe page identified the baby as 4-month-old Tanna Rae Wroblewski.

Tanna’s mother, Alyssa Wroblewski, posted a tribute to her daughter on Facebook, but commenters were quick to question why a 4-month-old baby was on a boat in 120-degree heat.

“I honestly can’t even find the words to express my feelings right now. This is just devastating,” one Facebook commenter wrote, in part. “What were you thinking? There was an excessive heat warning that day. Extremely careless and irresponsible.”

“I just can’t imagine taking a 4-month-old baby out in an extreme heat wave. Poor sweet little girl who needlessly suffered because of poor parental decisions,” another Facebook user commented.

Detectives are still investigating. It’s unclear if Tanna’s parents will be facing charges.

“Our precious baby girl gave us her last smiles and we gave her our last kisses. We will never understand why you had to leave so soon, you were just too perfect,” the GoFundMe page reads.

Big 12 & ACC to agree College Football Playoff framework (autobids & revenue sharing)

The College Football Playoff is inching closer to finalizing its agreement for the future.

Presidents in the ACC and Big 12 voted to authorize their commissioners to adopt the future framework related to a new CFP, including a new revenue model and concepts around a playoff format — all of which will be part of a new contract with ESPN. Those with knowledge of the discussions spoke to Yahoo Sports under condition of anonymity.

The two leagues were thought to be the most resistant to a deal. Their presidential vote is viewed as a significant hurdle crossed to reaching an agreement. The Big 12 and ACC votes were unanimous, sources told Yahoo Sports.

The CFP Management Committee, the 10 FBS conference commissioners and Notre Dame’s athletic director, are expected to meet over the next few days in a gathering that should produce some finality on what’s been a long, dramatic march to the playoff’s future beginning in 2026. Each conference and Notre Dame will be asked to either commit, or not, to the new CFP framework.

The expectation, pending the approval from each conference presidential board, is that all 10 conferences will commit to, most notably, a new revenue-distribution model, parameters around a playoff format and new governance structure. Notre Dame is supportive of the framework, multiple sources tell Yahoo Sports.

UCF QB KJ Jefferson Takes Skip Bayless’s Lionization Of Shedeur Sanders As Personal Attack

Deion Sanders: Colorado must protect QB to compete in Big 12

Hopefully we can pressure the hell out of him.

LAS VEGAS -- After finishing 4-8 and in last place in the Pac-12 in his debut season last year at Colorado, coach Deion Sanders made it clear during the conference's media day Wednesday what must change for the Buffaloes to compete in the Big 12.

"We got to protect that quarterback," Sanders said. "That's Number 1”

Last year, his son Shedeur Sanders was the most sacked quarterback in the country (52), which led Deion Sanders to completely overhaul the offensive line, including hiring a new line coach, former NFL offensive lineman Phil Loadholt.
