OT: Gameday routine with kids?

My nephew turns 2 this summer and with my niece due in August, I’m sure my sister and BIL will appreciate some time with just one for a few Saturdays.

Do your kids make it a whole game at that age? Any activities in the stadium? Recommendations you suggest such as ear muffs etc.

Figure this would work better than the usual borrowing of a friend’s dog to cruise for dimes at the farmers market after brunch.

OT-On/near campus housing?

My niece is hoping to attend to UCF starting next fall in order to be closer to my wife and I. Her father is career Air Force and moves frequently and as such my niece is looking to my wife and I for some stability. I attended UCF in the late 90's-early 00's and have no idea about the current student housing situation. Dorms may not be her priority as this will be my niece's fourth year in college, though academically thats not where she's at due to landing at various state universities while following her parents around for a few years.
Anybody have good insight on student housing near UCF these days? My niece asked my thoughts on Campus Crossings specifically, but is open to any other possibilities.

Is this BDS?

@KNIGHTTIME^ ???

A disastrous poll for Joe Biden shows that only 19 percent of respondents thought he should run for re-election to the presidency in 2024, while only seven percent hoped that Kamala Harris would. Worse still for the pair, a huge 28 percent of the 981 polled registered voters said they were “not sure” who should be the Democratic candidate. Bernie Sanders shuffles in right after Kamala with six percent, and… wait for it… Hillary Clinton at four percent. No. Just no.

The poll was released by Issues & Insights/TIPP on Monday. It concludes:

Just 19% of those responding answered “Joe Biden, 46th president of the United States.” The rest of the choices were spread among 18 candidates, along with “other” (6%) and “not sure” (28%). Put another way, 81% of Americans don’t want Biden to run again.

Eighty-one percent. I’m trying to think of another word besides “brutal.” My handy-dandy thesaurus suggests, “merciless,” “savage,” “severe” and “harsh.” Yup. All those words apply.

Other names on the list: former First Lady Michelle Obama (six percent), former Secretary of State and First Lady Hillary Clinton (four percent), former Hawaii Rep. Tulsi Gabbard (three percent), and Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg (three percent).

Joe’s day didn’t get any better after that, though. Another poll released Monday—this one from the Institute of Politics at Harvard Kennedy School—shows that his approval rating among young people aged 19-29 cratered an ugly 18 percent from last year. It’s now down to 41 percent.

Biden’s national polling was already in the dumpster, with a Friday Gallup poll revealing historically-low presidential approval levels.

And he supposedly got 81 million votes. 🤣

Did Cincinnati's poor performance in the CFP hurt UCF 2022's chances?

(Hey, I'm getting good at these cick-bait titles, but follow along.)

With Cinci's 27-6 drubbing in the play off game with Bama and with them more-than-likely-going-to-have-a-down year in 2022, does their loss hurt 2022 UCF's chances of making the CFP 4 game play off if we go undefeated?

UCF 2022 Schedule:
Date Opponent
Sept. 1 (Thur.) SOUTH CAROLINA STATE
Sept. 9 (Fri.) LOUISVILLE
Sept. 17 @Florida Atlantic
Sept. 24 GEORGIA TECH
Oct. 1 SMU*
Oct. 13 (Thur.) TEMPLE*
Oct. 22 @East Carolina*
Oct. 29 CINCINNATI*
Nov. 5 @Memphis*
Nov. 12 @Tulane*
Nov. 19 NAVY*

Josh Huepel as an evaluator of talent

He may look like he reprised Tracy Goode's role as Assistant Coach Brady Owens in Facing the Giants... He may not understand the concept of defense...He may have sucked it up at recruiting and boosting recruiting rankings, but Josh Heupel did hit on a lot of kids who will be playing significant roles for the Knights this fall. Heupel recruited high character student-athletes, who handled their business on and off the field. He recruited winners, who were driven and could be developed into playing at a high level. Despite all his faults, in retrospect, Heupel did take care of the program based on his ability to identify and evaluate talent. Kudos to him for that.

I was glad to see UCF sign 3 star offensive tackle Miguel Maldonado yesterday even if only as a PWO. He was the first commit of the Gus Malzahn's era. Grade concerns had prompted UCF to back off prior to early signing day, but apparently Maldonado got his academic affairs in order. Good for him and good for UCF.

I am fascinated by the number and quality of PWOs that UCF has taken this fall. The fact that UCF is out of scholarships echoes my initial point about Huepel's ability as an evaluator of talent. Program defections and attrition have been minimal, aside from the NFL declarations and a few transfer portal entrants. UCF probably has between 75-80 scholarship athletes participating in spring football. That is an incredible number for a Group of Five program.

Lastly, regarding Cam Goode, there is a distinct difference between being hurt and being injured. Playing through pain is what football players did for a century. I can't recall a single athlete ever dying from a torn meniscus or a sprained MCL. Most of the ailments he mentioned don't even require surgery. I am certain that other players played through equal or more pain at UCF--and every other major college football program for that matter last season. Forgive me if I don't join in on his pity party. Goode riddance.

I went out to the UCF Basketball Offices this morning…

Like everyone else who has had their interest in what going on with our Men’s and Women’s Basketball programs and haven’t heard much, I decided to go out to our Basketball Ofices this morning and see if I could get some tidbits of information.

Reminded me of when I was doing our UCF Sports Newspaper for our Booster Club in the 1980’s-1990’s. Back then I had the personal telephone numbers for most of our Sports Head Coaches. I wrote a column in the paper called “Reis’s Pieces”. I would contact our Coaches back then right before the paper went to press and beg our coaches for some positive information concerning their program that I could publish.

Those were some great times guys.

Our UCF Basketball Offices are locked on the second floor of the UCF Venue building that has two Basketball practice courts and our UCF Women’s Volleyball Court.

Upon entering the Basketball main office doors there is a reception desk. To the left are the Women’s Basketball Offices and to the right are the Men’s Basketball Offices.

There were a couple people manning the reception desk who I spoke with concerning obtaining any tidbits of information about our programs…

Amazon pushing for NFL Black Friday game...

Interesting news...

“What better marketing tool for Amazon Prime than to put a game in the wheelhouse of their consumers, on the busiest shopping day of the year?” he asked. “With so many shoppers eschewing brick-and-mortar stores in favor of shopping from the couch, imagine the marketing heft when commercials can be targeted at stay-at-home shoppers.”...
