Help out one of our former knights!

Most of yall remember Anthony Roberson, while his production on the field wasn’t a ton, he created a community on the team that helped propel them to the highest highs. He and JJ run the One Kid toy drive.

Anyways, Ant graduated from USC film school a few weeks ago and was one of 6 directors selected to create a thesis film. He has an indiegogo fundraising page,

Local "Young" Alumni Demographics Where Do They Live?

Wife and I are starting the process of purchasing our first house. We have just shy of a year left on our current lease and plenty of time to take our time. I've lived Downtown and then in Winter Park (Between Mills and Rollins) for the entirety of my post grad life (now 35). I've been looking at a handful of very specific area's that I'm biased towards but this all got the thinking, where did everyone go/end up?

Those of you that are 40 and under, where do you live? And what do you like / not like about it? Feel free to add in any anecdotes of others you may know.

Idea ...The UCF Network

I cut the chord or Dish and went in with streaming. Then I added up stuff like Prine ,Netflix, Disney Plus, Fox Sports and so on. I seem to be paying more than I was for Dish.

Now Big XII is adding Peacock and TNT which means more subscriptions. I went to Florida this weekend to go fishing offshore with some friends . On my way home I was like, I wish there could be a subscription for UCF sports. It would have one log in and be a portal to FS1, Fox, ESPN plus, TNT and Peacock. I pay one place and can access all UCF all the time anywhere. UCF could make some coin and I could just pay one fee instead of 5 or 6. Maybe one of you computer nerds could put this together? 😆

Settle, Settle, Settle, Settle: The Sons of UCF Newsletter, Volume 19

After weeks of anticipation, a federal judge in California approved a $2.8B dollar antitrust settlement that clears the way for college institutions to directly compensate athletes at their respective schools (Editor’s Note: it also addresses back pay for athletes who played before the NIL floodgates opened in 2021).

What this all means is really anybody’s guess at this point, and trust me when I tell you that you can fall down a rabbit hole trying to make sense of it. Perhaps one of the best explanations I have seen comes from Yahoo Sports insider Ross Dellenger, who created this thread on twitter. I also found this article from CBS, and this article from The Athletic, to be insightful as well.

OT: What do you do to get yourself in football mode?

Good morning, Dungeon.

The offseason is upon us, which means we are all collectively pretending that baseball, golf, and whatever ESPN is showing at 2 a.m. can fill the void. But let’s be real, nothing quite replaces the energy of football season.

So, I figured I would ask. What do you do to get yourself in football mode? Do you have any rituals, traditions, or absurdly superstitious habits that you swear make a difference?

For me, it starts with recording games. In the first few weeks, I become a full-time football archivist, recording matchups for every team we will be facing so I can get a feel for what we might be up against. I also throw in random interesting games just to round it out. By the time I am done, I have about a dozen games per week lined up. I watch a game or two each day, turning my living room into a miniature film study. I don't actually take notes or write anything down, but you get the point

Of course, I also record all of UCF’s games. I watch them live, but then I rewatch them the next day like a detective combing through evidence. Sometimes this is painful, but it is a tradition at this point. I always miss the subtle nuances of the game, especially home games after a full day of tailgating where my attention span is slightly compromised by the amount of grilled meats and beverages I consumed.

So, what do you do to prepare for the season? Do you start breaking down film? Do you draft way too early in fantasy football? Do you begin mentally preparing for the stress that will inevitably come with watching your team? Share your traditions. I want to hear them.

Isaiah McNish had known for a while where he wanted to be.

The Wekiva High School standout had already told UCF defensive tackles coach Kenny Martin during spring practice that he was ready to be a Knight. But it wasn't until the conclusion of this weekend's official visit that McNish let head coach Scott Frost in on the news.

"I just committed a couple minutes ago," McNish said Sunday afternoon. "Coach Frost was excited. We've already got game plans set for me. Goal line packages. I'm ready to run the rock and do what I do best.”

The 6-foot-4, 265-pound McNish is being recruited as a defensive tackle, though UCF is already imagining ways to take advantage of his offensive skill set. Despite missing part of his junior season, he recorded 30 solo tackles, three sacks and as a tight end scored nine offensive touchdowns in just seven games.

"They like my work ethic, my athleticism, my size," McNish said. "Me playing running back and tight end, the way I play, how hard I run the ball. It’s a great opportunity."

McNish chose the Knights over offers from Pittsburgh, Michigan State, Georgia Tech, Missouri and Syracuse, among others.

"I loved it. I loved everything about it," McNish said of the weekend. "The tours, the food. I loved everything about it, so I'm glad that I made the decision to stay here and be home."

While he's no stranger to campus having attended multiple spring practices and recruiting events, McNish said the official visit gave him deeper insight into the program.

"My favorite part was getting the full campus tour, learning more about academics, how things run around here, how the coaches are," he said. "We talked about stuff that other places I visited didn't really talk about, so I just felt like it was a good fit. They really care about the recruits."

McNish has developed a strong relationship with Martin, who was his lead recruiter.

"Coach Kenny, he's a great coach," McNish said. "I watched him coach a couple practices. I really like how he works with his players, very humble man. I'm glad to be coached by him."

This weekend, McNish spoke extensively with his former Wekiva teammate Sincere Edwards, who transferred to UCF from Pittsburgh earlier this offseason.

"I asked Sincere, 'What made you want to come back?'" McNish said. "He said he loved the environment, loved everything about it. He made a mistake going to Pitt because he felt no other coaches were better than Coach Martin. Just listening to him and seeing what he did made me want to come here more."

Originally from Palm Beach, McNish moved to the Orlando area five years ago and said staying close to home was a big factor.

"It already feels like home to me," he said. "Just staying close to home, it'll feel like a better environment for me."

McNish plans to graduate early and enroll in January. With his commitment locked in, his recruitment is officially closed.

"This is a shutdown," McNish said. "I'm not worried about any other place because I know they're not going to make me feel how I'm feeling right now. So I'm ready to shut that down and stay a Knight."

What UCF fans can expect from him?

"Y'all getting a dog," McNish said. "I'm ready to work. I'm ready to come take somebody's spot. I ain't throwing no shots, but I'm ready to come take somebody's spot."

***Nitro locks in: Speedster Kaj Baker commits to UCF (interview)***

One of Scott Frost's top targets at running back is officially on board.

Kaj Baker, a speedy all-purpose back from Somerset Academy in Pembroke Pines, Fla., announced his commitment to UCF on Sunday as his official visit weekend came to a close. The 5-foot-8, 165-pound playmaker becomes the first running back pledge in UCF's 2026 class.

"I just had a meeting with Coach (Frost), and I just wanted to let him know in person that I was ready to lock in," Baker said. "He lit up. He got super excited. He's been telling me I'm his guy, and I was just super excited about that. We have a great relationship."

Baker, nicknamed "Nitro," a moniker passed down from his father, rushed for 1,653 all-purpose yards and scored 19 total touchdowns as a junior. He also had offers from Pittsburgh, Virginia, Wake Forest and Louisville, among others, but canceled the rest of his visit schedule after making the decision in Orlando.

"No, I shut it down," Baker said. "I'm committed."

The UCF staff envisions Baker in a versatile hybrid role as both a running back and slot receiver, similar to how Frost utilized De'Anthony Thomas at Oregon more than a decade ago.

"Coach Frost, Coach JB (Jimmy Beal), Coach Coop (Steve Cooper), they were just showing me plays and comparing them to stuff I already do now," Baker said. "De'Anthony Thomas, he was doing the same stuff I'm doing now. They like super fast, super quick guys that can score in one play, and I feel like I can do a lot of the same things."

Track speed runs in the family. Baker says he's been competing since he was four years old and inherited his wheels from his dad, who once ran a 10.3 in the 100-meter dash and a 4.2-second 40-yard dash.

"When I get on the football field, nobody can catch me," Baker said. "I'm just running away from everybody."

This was Baker's first extended time on campus, though he had previously been to UCF for camps. He said the full experience made him feel at home.

"It was an amazing experience with the people, just the family atmosphere," Baker said. "They were showing love, and I just really loved it. I had fun."

Baker said he's particularly close with running backs coach Jimmy Beal.

"I love Coach JB," he said. "We talk all the time, football, about life. We just built an amazing relationship over the past couple of months."

Baker plans to enroll early in January. And while his nickname was spelled "Nitro" long before he considered UCF, he realizes now it's a perfect fit.

"I found out recently the mascot name was Knightro, so that was pretty cool," Baker said.

As for what kind of player the Knights are getting?

"A dog. A playmaker. Somebody that's going to strike the band up, get the crowd excited, and help us win games."

2024 Election Thread

I see the eyes of Right-wing pundits light up when they see President Biden's low poll numbers! Whoohoo, they think, he's dead-meat to either DeSantis or Trump in 2024! Right?

Be careful. It's all a mirage. Nothing could be further from the truth. Back in the old days, Biden (like Jimmy Carter against Reagan) might've gotten whupped up on after a four year-term featuring rising inflation numbers. But it ain't happening in 2024.

The GOP's batsh*t craziness makes a Biden second-term a sure thing. We live in an age where being old and boring is REASSURING to the majority of American voters. :)
