Government Shutdown Averted!!!

Whoohoo!!! Another deadline was looming for a government shutdown after last year's Congress had extended it to this January. But thanks to the bold leadership of our new Speaker of the House, we avoided a political stunt from our MAGA "fiscal conservatives" that would've cost American taxpayers millions of dollars each day of the shutdown.

The new deadline is....um, March. 🤪

Both Timmy McClain and Dylan Rizk were taking snaps with the second team offense.

I didn't think I saw Jabari Brooks taking center snaps on Tuesday, but I wanted to make sure. It appears he is now only repping at left guard, at least from what we were able to see today. First team center is Caden Kitler, second team center is Waltclaire Flynn.

Video includes 90 percent of what we were able to see today. I didn't include a couple busted plays:

-Jarrad Baker takes the hand off.

-KJ pass to Jarrad Baker.

-Another KJ pass to Jarrad Baker.

-Chauncey Magwood run with the second team offense.

-Timmy McClain long throw to Tyree Patterson, which was dropped.

-McClain pass completed to Chauncey Magwood.

-Johnny Richardson big run with the first team offense.

-Hard to see because it's on the far side of the field, but KJ throw to Xavier Townsend which falls incomplete. Was being defended by Ja'Cari Henderson.

-KJ keeper.

-Myles Montgomery with the run.

-Rizk dump off to Myles Montgomery for a small gain.

-Rizk finds Magwood on the sideline.

-Whistle was blown, but Rizk throws again to Magwood.

-KJ throw to Magwood.

-KJ pass intended to X is broken up and nearly picked off by Nikai Martinez.

-KJ pass to Randy Pittman.

-Timmy McClain finds a wide-open Stephen Martin in the end zone for a TD.

OT: Endowment question

Even though it’s a UCF question I still labeled it OT.

How is our endowment so low? I’m sure it’s been explained before. Figured I’d jump start a new thread.

We just had one day — 24 hours — and we raised ~5% of what our entire endowment is?

With that type of support in one day you’d think our overall endowment would be spiking annually?

I feel like it’s been $200M or so forever.

***Updated: DB transfer target Tre'Quon Fegans commits to USC 🏈

One of UCF's top transfer portal targets is currently on campus for an official visit.

Tre'Quon Fegans, who was a freshman at Alabama this past season, confirmed Saturday he had arrived in Orlando. His father also tweeted photos showing Tre'Quon in uniform posing with head coach Gus Malzahn and seated behind the wheel of a BMW i8.

Rivals rated the Alabaster (Ala.) Thompson graduate as a four-star prospect and the nation's No. 12 safety in the Class of 2022. During his initial high school recruitment, Fegans was initially committed to Miami before flipping to the Crimson Tide. He visited numerous schools, including a June 2021 unofficial visit to UCF. Prior to his commitments, Fegans trimmed his list to a top five that included Miami, Alabama, Georgia, South Carolina and Oklahoma.

This time around in the transfer portal, Fegans is focusing on UCF, Georgia Tech, Arizona and USC. He was visiting GT prior to coming down to UCF.

Fegans is viewed as a versatile defensive back who has the ability to play any secondary position.

He also comes from an extremely talented family, which includes younger brother Anquon Fegans who is one of the top prospects in the Class of 2025.

Rivals national recruiting analyst Adam Gorney at the time of his commitment to Alabama in October 2021:

"Fegans has excellent length, he likes to jam and redirect at the line of scrimmage and because of his long arms he can go up and intercept passes or poke it away. He's also been a Pick Six machine in his high school career and that's definitely a huge bonus as well. The new Alabama commit is always locked up with the opponent's top receiver and Fegans is trusted on an island to do the right thing and make the play. Have we seen elite turn-and-run speed a lot? Not really so I do question that until I see it more in person and some of his picks came on bad throws, not great position but with his length, his instincts and his success in the past, Alabama is getting another elite player at the position."

New AAC boss wants more postseason football

Incoming American Athletic Conference commissioner Tim Pernetti, who will have a seat on the College Football Playoff management committee, said the evolution of the sport's postseason is "encouraging," but there's also "room for more" beyond the CFP and current bowl system.

"When I say room for more, maybe it's not what the right number is for the CFP -- I don't know. But what I do know is, if you look at how many institutions are playing Division I football, there's room for more beyond the CFP," said Pernetti, a veteran college sports executive and president of IMG Academy. "There's postseason opportunities that don't exist that could be created to enhance the postseason or complement the postseason and the bowl season."

Not really sure how much appetite there is for postseason exhibition games between teams that don't qualify for a bowl game, but I guess more power to him.

That was the consensus among UCF football student-athletes following their latest visit to the Orlando Health Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children. Different from previous visits, the student-athletes sought input from the children on how to take their game, or their style for the Spring Game, to the next level.

In a unique opportunity, the children designed logos for the student-athletes to wear on their helmets during UCF’s annual Knights vs. ‘Nauts Spring Game, presented by Knight Pass, on Friday, April 12, at FBC Mortgage Stadium.

UCF’s student-athletes assisted the children in the creative process of coloring and designing stacked UCF, Knight Head and Citronaut logos that the players will don on their helmets.

***Spring Practice Update - Day 2 Video & Observations 🏈

Here's an edited video of some action:

Like Monday, we had around 25 minutes of access towards the conclusion of practice today.

Similar to what we saw on Monday, it was the final team period (offense vs. defense) to close it out.

A few individual players/plays stood out:

Freshman Chasen Johnson, who is playing with the first team at CB, broke up a pass from KJ intended for Kobe Hudson. It is the first clip visible in the video, but on the far side of the field.

It would appear he is top freshman (for now), just based on the fact they thought highly enough of him to put him with the first team. Several players in the press conference today also had high praise for him.

DE Malachi Lawrence deflected a pass, which is visible in the second clip.

In the fourth clip, QB Timmy McClain connected with WR Tyree Patterson on a long throw down the sideline - Tyree had a couple steps on his defender, CB Ja'Maric Morris.

In the following clip, WR Stephen Martin (16) extended to pull down a slightly-high pass.

WR Andrew Dickson (24) had a couple nice catches with the third team.

Towards the end of the video, McClain throws a dime to Jarrad Baker (who was being defended by Ladarius Tennison). A little Brevard on Brevard action.

No pads or tackling, so take it for what it is. QBs were mostly accurate from what we saw in our window.
