Incoming UCF Freshman and Father killed by DUI driver...😥

A freshman college student about to start at the University of Central Florida and his father were killed by a drunken driver with a history of previous DUI charges on their way to orientation.

Shane Lloyd, 50, and his 19-year-old son, Jakob Lloyd, were on their way to the Orlando university from their home in Colorado on Sunday when a woman, identified as 40-year-old Leslie Gehret, allegedly ran a red light and collided with their vehicle, according to a report from Fox 35 Orlando.

The father and son were on their way to the Orlando campus around 1 p.m. Sunday when the collision occurred, with Gehret's white Jeep colliding with Lloyd's Kia and sending it tumbling down the road.

***UCF OC Tim Harris Jr. Press Conference - Day 3 of Spring Practice ⚔️🏈

Tim Harris Jr. joined Gus Malzahn's inaugural UCF staff in 2021, spending two seasons as running backs coach. He departed for his alma mater Miami in 2023 but after less than a year away has returned to Orlando, this time as offensive coordinator and wide receivers coach.

Harris spoke to the media following UCF's third day of spring practice.

Here's a recap:

Harris said he was excited to be returning to UCF (he was gone for just 11 months) and it was a tremendous honor to be offered the offensive coordinator role, especially under a head coach like Gus Malzahn. Given his history at UCF, the transition has been very smooth.

Play calling will be a collaborative effort with Malzahn and Harris. He's a believer in Malzahn's offensive concepts. The offensive staff will do this together, they all have great relationships.

Harris coached UCF's running backs in 2021-22. He says Kam Martin is doing a great job coaching that position; Kam worked with him in 2021. "He's done a really good job of keeping it going."

Now coaching wide receivers, Harris already had a pre-existing relationship with Kobe Hudson and he's really helped in making the transition easier.

Harris says his WRs will play harder than everyone. They will be consistent catching the football. A physical group.

While Harris' college background has been coaching running backs, he says his true background is coaching quarterbacks and wide receivers which is what he did in high school. He played QB in high school. When he began coaching in college, he had to learn how to coach running backs. He spent six years at FIU prior to coming to UCF for two years, Miami for one year and now back to UCF. He feels like he's coming back to his roots and thinks his running back experience will make him a better WR coach now.

Expanding on his relationship with Gus Malzahn, Harris appreciates how he "trusts his guys." Even though Harris decided to leave UCF last year for the Miami opportunity, Malzahn told Harris that he'd "always be one of his guys." That really stuck with him. He has so much respect and admiration for Gus, who was a former high school coach that made it as a successful college coach. Harris has the same high school background and is working to eventually get the same opportunity.

The offensive staff is an incredibly cohesive unit. Herb Hand has a long history with Gus. Kam Martin played for Gus.

Harris believes RJ Harvey is one of the best running backs in the country. His work ethic is second to none. Always has a smile on his face. There was never a doubt that he'd get to where he is now.

Freshman WR Bredell Richardson has turned heads early in spring. He's super competitive and athletically mature. He's not backing down from competition. He talks a lot, but he backs it up. He loves coaching him. He makes hard catches look easy and that's catching everybody's attention. Very pleased after the first three days.

OT: Solar eclipse, April 8th 2024

With the solar eclipse quickly approaching (Monday, April 8th), is anyone planning on travelling to the path of totality?

I've got 3 spots lined up, depending on weather. First is Temple, TX (about halfway between Waco and Austin), the 2nd is a friend who lives in Waldron, AR, and I just added another backup spot along the border in Eagle Pass, TX.

The next total solar eclipse in the contintental US will be in 2045, which will pass directly over Orlando, with totality lasting over 6 minutes.

UCF Spring Football Camp Report: Players looking to build trust with coaches

UCF Football enters the final week of spring practice, which means there is still time for players to make an impact. For guys like OL Caden Kitler and WR Stephen Martin, there is recognition that they have a great opportunity to show the coaches that they can be counted on to contribute when called upon.

UCF 2nd Scrimmage

Some feedback from my sources (two guys) who attended the scrimmage.

LB group looked good…it’s expected for them to be much better than last year. Hudson and Harvey did not participate. KJ looked so so. He was off and on…some accuracy issues, mostly due to lack of legit WR and TE weapons. OL could use a couple of legit additions.

Pace the transfer was very active. Threats the UC transfer is at best a depth guy. There’s belief in KJ but also some concerns…he’s definitely not lighting it up in any aspect.

Expect UCF to be VERY active in the upcoming Spring portal.

Aggies need bodies badly after mass exodus of DL talent. USC, Louisville, Minnesota, Duke, Georgia Tech and others "reportedly" showed interest, per 247.

I was hoping for a return trip to UCF. I hate he won't finish his career as a Knight.

UCF Knights WR Jarrad Baker: "I want to show my speed."

The UCF Knights wide receiver room is loaded with talented players, including veteran Jarrad Baker. Jarrad has battled injuries and managed position changes throughout his career, but is now solidified as a leader in the wide receiver room. He continues to battle for playing time, but when he gets on the filed, he is looking to show off his speed.

***DT Ryshawn Perry commits to UCF***

Ryshawn Perry just visited UCF yesterday.

Sleeper player in some respects who has blown up lately with some major offers from Auburn, Oklahoma, Maryland, Ole Miss and others. Could honestly be ranked higher than he is. He hasn't taken many visits or attended camps/combines which is probably a contributing factor.

Auburn (and others) really wanted him. He had visited the Plains last week.

Ryshawn is the little brother of former UCF player Koby Perry, who played for the Knights in 2022 after transferring from Austin Peay.

Big-time pickup for the future DL.
