If you had to bet $10,000 of your OWN money on one Big 12 team to win it all this year, what team would you pick?

I've heard more than a few hosts on national radio/tv pick Houston to win it all but I think they might run into a late round game where their offense struggles (like it did vs Iowa State).

While Iowa State doesn't have a blistering offense...I would still pick them to go further than UH in the end....plus having their first 2 games in nearby Omaha...those games will give them nice home court advantage for this week's games.

Maybe the best chance for upsets and getting into the Sweet 16 or an Elite 8 is BYU...as they can get SOOOO hot from 3 and even if they shoot their average (around 33% in conf play), the VOLUME of 3's they shoot (approx 30 per game) lead to being #1 in conf play with 10 plus made 3's per game.

Bottom line...ANYONE but Texas...(hey...let UT win a few games to give future NCAA credits to the Big 12 since UT can't take those $$ credits with them to the SEC).

Place your bets (and don't tell your significant other unless you win).

"The games will emanate from the Big Ten, Big 12 and the Mountain West. The first matchup is still to be determined because the television schedule, coordinated with the other networks, does not take place until May. "

In other words, our 2024 schedule isn't yet set.

***UCF WR Xavier Townsend embracing leadership role ⚔️🏈

The roles have quickly changed for Xavier Townsend.

Not that long ago, the Tampa native would have been regarded as the young guy in the wide receiver room. Now entering his third year in the program, Townsend is viewed as one of the veterans.

"No, I don't (feel like a veteran) at all," Townsend said. "Looking around in the room, we've got a lot of young guys. I guess I am one of the old guys now."

As a sophomore in 2023, Townsend was UCF's third-leading receiver with 33 catches for 325 yards and three touchdowns.

A lot more will be expected of him on the field, but off the field as well. He's embracing his new role.

"Coaches are stressing this offseason to be more vocal," Townsend said. "When I was younger, I led by example and now I'm trying to step into the role of being more vocal."

UCF had three freshmen wide receivers join the team in January: Bredell Richardson, Jordyn Bridgewater and Kason Stokes. He's doing what he can to bring them along.

"All of them doing a really good job," Townsend said. "Bredell is coming out making plays, so are Kason and Bridgewater. Bridegwater is mainly in the slot so I've been able to talk to him more. Kason and Bredell are both from Tampa so I've known them for a while. They come to me when they have a question. It's good that I have a different connection with each of them to connect on a personal level."

Townsend added that he and Bredell used to train together in Tampa.

"Bredell's got hands," Townsend said. "I think that's his biggest skill set. When the ball touches his hands, it's usually not going anywhere."

This spring is obviously important for the offense to become in tune with transfer quarterback KJ Jefferson.

"He brings some versatility. Just like John (Rhys Plumlee), he can throw and run the ball. I think he's going to stay in the pocket a little bit more and trust his arm more. Having trust in us to be where we need to be, so that's going to be a little bit different."

Asked about early spring practice standouts, Townsend mentioned Bredell Richardson and cornerback Chasen Johnson among the younger players, and cornerback Brandon Adams plus wide receivers Jarrad Baker, Chauncey Magwood and Kobe Hudson among the returners.

In regards to Chasen Johnson, Townsend said he's got great footwork and plays the ball well.

Townsend said last year's 6-7 record was "unacceptable." They have the players and talent to win the Big 12 Championship.

SPRING CAMP INTERVIEW: UCF DT Ricky Barber is ready to prove he is a beast

Reasons Why UCF Should Extend Johnny Dawkins

1. He gives us more than we deserve. Who else would be so gracious as to deliver us 3 straight losses to usf and 4 straight losses to Cincy?

2. He went to Duke and people in the college basketball media who have never once thought about UCF will say mean things about us if we let him go.

3. He runs a tight ship that provides good mentorship to young men that we as alumni can be proud of. He even brings in upstanding role models like Antonio Brown to help reinforce this message!

4. We are so very poor, who would even want to come here with so little NIL support? (Please ignore the rumors of the potential mega donor who is willing to drop a bag if we move on to someone else.)

5. He’s so nice, what else could we ask for as someone who makes millions of dollars to coach basketball at the FBS level for a living?

6. COOL INDIVIDUAL MOMENTS!!!

I hope Terry announced his extension tomorrow and we can look forward to living the nightmare dream for another 3 years.

(Serious post) Projecting Dawkins’ Goldilocks extension season

Like most in Knight Nation, I have done much soul searching over the past few days. I can’t sleep, food doesn’t taste good. The joy I feel in my life has disappeared, only to be replaced with one all-consuming topic: Johnny Earl Dawkins Jr.

I’ve done extensive modeling - looking at his entire career, UCF’s history, broadly applied college basketball trends and even factoring climate change and I think I have come up with the perfect Goldilocks season for Coach Dawkins, our steady hand in trying times.

What is a Goldilocks season? It’s a Dawkins Doozy - a basketball season that is not too hot (heavens forbid!) and not too cold (UCF can’t afford a buyout!). A Goldilocks season is JUST RIGHT for Coach to get a multi million dollar contact extension putting him in line for the same financial stratosphere his big 12 peers enjoy.

Here’s my projection for next season:

Wins over Houston, Iowa State.

Losses to Kansas State, Arizona State and Cincy

Coach Dawkins works his formidable Rolodex and announces a program changing $250,000 gift

UCF continues to have nice things said about it in the national sports media thanks to our extensive Duke ties.

We place 11th in the New Big 12, an underwhelming (but improved!) campaign for a great coach. While fans have mixed emotions from this season, this team don’t quit. The big dogs start barkin and UCF makes a run to the semi finals of the Big 12 championship tournament.

Based on our deep run in the conference championship, we earn a play in spot to the NCAA tournament. However our swashbuckling basketball team inexplicably goes 2-22 from the free throw line resulting in a hard fought loss to black and gold rivals Colorado (a rematch from the first round of the conference championship).

Final record: 8-12 in conference.

Coach Dawkins’ 4 year, $3m/yr extension is announced March 13, 2025

Mikey Williams ultimately commits to USC, but his cousin Craig walks on. Antonio Brown enrolls in UCF to pursue a graduate degree in economics
