UCF SG budget getting cut

Saw a post on r/ucf about incoming 14% cut to the SG budget. Wonder what gets cut out of the pool of gym, homecoming, concerts, universal knights, and other services.

good discussion, good times

Update: The SG budget hearings take place next week on 12/12 and 12/13. While you are likely gone for break your peers will determine how to cut not 10%... but 14%. Roughly $3M from a $21M budget.

This is due to a decrease in revenue and signficant increase in expenses for the very specific fee we all pay per state law that can be used for very specific purposes, per state law.

Revenue is down because:

  1. total credit hours are down. just as many of us enrolled but collectively taking fewer hours. This probably could have been projected by someone whose job it was to project this but they clearly f'd up.
  2. the fee has not been permitted by the current and prior governor to be increased, even by pennies as it had been increasing throughout its history
Expenses are up because:

  1. Unless you're living under a rock, everything is more expensive. Food, utilities, costs of goods and services, you name it.
  2. Minimum wage goes up a dollar each year. Businesses can pass the cost of labor on to customers. UCF cannot charge you more by law, even if you were willing to pay a few bucks more a year. I guess that's good but you get what you pay for.
You should attend if you care (I think it's in the SU - they do a bad job about publicizing this). We're looking at major slashes or endings to things you may care about (concerts, homecoming, programming, gym hours, intermurals... universal knights)

If you can't attend, I'd visit the SG website and send your concerns in that direction.

Please no replies about:

  • lazy rivers. has nothing to do with the price of tea in china. private funds. different budgets.
  • hotels. again, ucf didn't pay for it and doesn't own it
  • athletics. again, again. different source of funds, independent budget
  • the president's salary. also again, not paid for by these funds. I mean you can reply about these things it's a free country but... bless your heart.
Prep for some pain. This is not unique to UCF, other state schools are in a similar boat!

Keep an eye on former Cincinnati CB commit Jonas Duclona

Duclona has an OV to Wisconsin this weekend. His brother is a UCF commit. If UCF pushes, this could develop into something.

***New official visitor this weekend***

A lot of the attention these days is focused on the transfer portal while JUCOs sometimes get overlooked. With that being said (lol), UCF just offered Iowa Central CC Desna Washington and he tells me he will be visiting UCF officially this upcoming weekend.

Washington, who is from Belle Glade, had 49 receptions for 812 yards and nine touchdowns this past season.

Other offers: Long Island, New Mexico State, Eastern Kentucky, Tennessee-Martin, Austin Peay, Eastern Illinois, Tennessee Tech, Charlotte, Ball State, Norfolk State, McNeese State, South Florida, Georgia Southern, Miami (Ohio), Stony Brook, Samford and Middle Tennessee.

So I go to my local barber in Vero Beach

and I recognize the voice of a customer. It was indeed one of the voices of the UCF Knights football radio team. Mr Gary Parris. The barber knew I am a UCF alum and season ticket holder, and introduced us. We talked UCF football , the NIL and free transfer among other things for a few minutes. He is a very humble and kind man.

CCG TV Ratings

AAC 2.7M viewers. Not bad considering, but down 710K from last year's Cin/Hou matchup. I blame Tulane and the fact that the winner wasn't playing for a CFP spot.

Also note that the XII CCG had 9.41M viewers (!!) with TCU/K-State as our lead-in and the ACC CCG had just 3.47M viewers after our game (Clemson/UNC).

OT- Do you tip your garbage man?

We moved to a real nice neighborhood a few years ago and when I picked up my garbage cans from the curb last week, there was a Christmas card on the top of one of the cans. I didn't notice anything last year but maybe my wife or one of the kids brought the cans up then.

I noticed today on a walk that several neighbors have taped an envelope to the top of the cans before being picked up today. Should I be tipping them, and if so, how much? I mean they're gonna get picked up whether I do or not right?
