Heupel vs Gus: Decide it on the field (Cotton Bowl)

Honestly it is laughable at this point to project UCF into the Cotton Bowl. Maybe Jerry Palm doesn't realize the Knights lost to Navy.

I have also seen Tulane and Cincinnati projected for the Cotton Bowl. This year will produce the worst AAC Champion in a long time.

UCF Fast & Slow - Navy Edition

This may go down as one of the worst losses in UCF history considering how much we had on the line, how large a favorite we were, playing at home for a sold out crowd, etc... It is really hard to wrap my head around how we managed to shat our selves the way we did today after playing an absolutely incredible game at Tulane just last week. Maybe a trap game with the early start and gimmick offense but we really cannot make excuses on this one. We got to get this win. This is about as bad of a loss as you can have. Only one positive i could pull from the game which i will get to my in slows...

UCF Fast:
  • Barber: Monster game and stat line for a DT. Of course against Navy that is going to happen to some extent but he was clearly our best DL today

  • Johnson: Did his best JJB today. JJB hurt not having him but Johnson played a solid game.

  • Boomer: Outside of that ridiculous 64 yard attempt he is 100% for the season. I know the two he hit today were closer kicks but those kicks get missed all the time in college including by us in prior years. He has been automatic and probably one of the brightest spots of this season.
  • Baker: He was targeted an amazing 13 times. It was like every throw was going that way. He only caught 6 of the 13 which is pretty awful BUT most of those were on the QBs. They couldn't put the ball anywhere near him. I think he dropped 1.

  • Marshall (Navy): That dude was nasty. He was such an undersized avg looking dude and yet he just dominated. Reminded me of Shaquem and of Bruce Miller. A player like him is what our defense is missing. He was a game changer. Last season with Navy it was that Fagot linebacker that killed us and this year it was this Marshall kid.
UCF Slow:
  • Keene & JRP: There is only ONE positive i can see from today's game and it is that hopefully this game settles the JRP vs. Keene argument for good. Our fan base has been insufferable trying to argue that one of them was superior to the other. The whole time those of us with some sense were telling you guys that they were the opposite sides of the same coin. We can win with each just as easy as we can lose with each. JRP had a bad first half and clearly he missed several throws but my bigger issue was that we didn't attempt to run JRP more. He needs to lead with his legs not his arm. Gus had some bad play calls again when we got close which i will get to later that didn't play to JRP's strengths plus Harvey likely dropped a touch down from JRP. I totally understand and agree with going to Keene at half and Keene came out like Joe Montana on that first drive but then the Keene we saw all to often last year came out the rest of the game. I think Keene had another 5 or so drives and he didn't do shit for any of them. I think after that first drive Keene went 5 for 11 for like 50 yards in 4 or 5 drives along with a fumble and 4 sacks and one dropped tip pass that should have been picked. We couldn't move the ball outside of a few runs. My biggest reason for being ok with JRP over Keene was evident in this game. When Keene isn't on there is no plan B. At least with JRP he can run for something to extend a drive. I am not sure how anyone can argue with me on this one. They both sucked today, the play calling and protection didnt help either of them but they each got to play an entire half against the same team and basically netted the same result.

  • T-Will: The defense settled in and played well enough to win this game but the one unforgivable thing to me is how Navy kept being able to easily QB sneak for 4th down conversions. I think it happened 4 times. We were leaving the center open. No one was over the center. I get having that happen once but after a few times i was screaming along with everyone else what was coming and we couldn't do shit to stop it. Why wouldn't you put everyone up the middle on those plays. We HAD to get off the field against this team. Those were huge plays.

  • Harvey: I think Harvey is probably our most complete back and he looked the best running today but he had another just AWFUL drop today. This is happening way to much for him. He makes that catch which JRP put right on him on the right side he basically walks in for that TD. Instead we end up having to kick a FG and it really impacts the overall game flow. That was a big play and i think those are the types of plays he needs to figure out a way to make to take the next step.
  • GUS: At the end of the day this loss is on Gus. Gus has to have his guys ready to play and this game felt similar to ECU. I felt like we were sleep walking through this game. It felt like the guys thought they just had to dress out and were going to easily win this one and were not ready for the fight. The 11am start cannot be an excuse when you are the home team against a team from the same time zone. My biggest beef with Gus though gets back to what i have been saying all year, the play calling inside the red zone leaves a lot to be desired. Those play calls maybe solid calls but not for the personal and game set up we are in. We needed to run the ball more. There is no way Navy's defensive personal should have been able to stop our running attack with JRP, Bowser, Harvey, JR but Gus never really gave that a chance to get going. Gus was throwing the ball way too much. I think we had 38 or so drop backs to pass vs. about 19 or so run plays. If passing is working i am fine with this set up but outside of the one MK drive and one JRP pass to Baker we really had no success through the air and it was obvious but on 17 carries Bowser and Harvey were averaging over 6 yards a carry. We were dominating running the ball, why were we trying to pass so much? I don't care if they put everyone at the line of scrimmage if they are giving us 6 yards a rush we have to take it.
Well hopefully the JRP vs. MK crap is over and i can take that as the one positive from the game. I have no problem with our fans having a favorite between the two but to argue one is superior to the other is just not true, at least not at this point in their careers. A for Navy, man I am not going to miss playing them. I went to the game last year and it was awesome to see a game at Navy but the three Navy games that stick out the most in my mind were the two losses the last two years and the year where Navy came really close to ending that perfect season where KZ and team had to pull that one out in a very tough fought win at Navy. That team just didnt know how to lose that year, what a great year that was. It is perplexing to me to see a team like Navy who some how loss 7 games this year and a bunch last year and gets pummeled by teams i have never heard of but when we play them we struggle like we do. I mean Navy lost to DELAWARE earlier this year. I know they played other teams real tough but UCF absolutely needed to find a way to win this game. This is a brutal loss. This can NOT happen next week. It is unforgivable for us to lose to usf the last time we ever play them. We must win that game. I will never forgive gus if we shit ourselves next week. Go Knights!!!

Can we ban Bianchi from the board?

I’m tired of him using this board as source material for his columns.

He’s lazy.

But never post full articles of that rag in here or their lawyers will come calling.

Ban him or give us all free subs to either Publix or the Orlando sentinel.

i really don’t want to link the article. Feels like I’m feeding him if I do.

Do better Bianchi. I know you’re going to read this.

Why I’m not worried or fazed:

This season for me was just a tune up for the real enchilada which happens next season. I just wanted to make a bowl and never thought this particular team looked elite from the onset. Great teams have great offense and defensive lines which is why Georgia beat the sam hell out of gimmick Tennessee. Look at our 2014 and national championship team for more clarification. We’re big time if everyone at this place is unhappy at 8-3. I sat through 0-17 and 0-12. Y’all booing deserve that again as a reminder. Always face forward but remember where we’ve come. Oh, and always ask yourself what’s really going on
In life. That’s why Im a few steps ahead of everyone in many aspects!!!!!

Marinated and wallowed in the loss now over it, cows were coming for you roll call

Time to get over it. I wallowed for a couple days now. I hope all of you that were going before Navy are still planning to invade Tampa. We all need to send off the cows with a resounding Goodbye! We owe them as much. Will be there flying UCF and Big 12 flags with 4.

R.J. Harvey and Javon Baker were credited for a drop. The pass to the end zone to ROK was not considered a drop.

Rewatched the 2nd half

Our offensive line , tight ends and running backs did an absolute $hit job protecting MK.

This is where I don’t think the group was really prepped for MK starting.

The breakdowns were constant and included the last drive several times including the last set of downs. Gus didn’t have an answer for Marshall #1 at striker. Changing the quarterback at half, changing the gameplan and terrible protection is why we lost the game. We also need underneath routes or checkdowns in situations like 3rd and 4. No MK could not have run it there - linebacker was closing at LOS.

Not sure why we didn’t have Plumlee running the ball like he did Tulane in the first half. Not sure why that wasn’t there. All in all what a disappointment

***Top transfer and flip target highlight UCF visitors for Navy ⚔🏈

tppaq4wipync8bxtolw1

Two players connected to the University of Florida - a transfer and a commitment - highlight UCF's expected visitors for their final regular season home game against Navy.

Joshua Braun, a former offensive guard for the Gators, received a UCF offer earlier this week. A four-star recruit in the Class of 2020, Braun started seven games for the Gators during the 2021 season but saw his status change with the coaching change in Gainesville. He visited Florida State a few days ago and also has offers from Penn State, Duke and Texas Tech.

Braun is already in the NCAA Transfer Portal as he is set to graduate from UF following this semester. He recently married and will be looking for the best fit for both he and his wife.

After taking 2022 as a redshirt season, Braun could have up to three seasons of eligibility remaining if he were to utilize his extra COVID year (he would be classified as a redshirt junior in 2023).

Tyree Patterson, a wide receiver from Eustis, committed to Florida last April and is also expected to be in the Bounce House. UCF has always kept in touch with Patterson, who is also slated to take an official visit the weekend of Dec. 16, the weekend following his UF official.

Estero (Fla.) cornerback Jason Duclona will make a repeat visit this weekend after also attending the Cincinnati and SMU games. A decommit from Rutgers, UCF has shot to the top of Duclona's list. He plans to announce his commitment on Monday.

"I love their coaches," Duclona told Rivals about UCF. "I love their DB room; I have talked to a lot of their players. The atmosphere there is great. Next year they join the Big 12, that is a great opportunity to play at a high level."

Ocala (Fla.) Trinity Catholic's Tommy Kinsler, a four-star offensive lineman committed to Miami, is also on the RSVP list.

Several UCF commitments are expected to be on hand, including John Walker, Andrew Harris, Michael Harris, Jamal Meriweather, Dylan Rizk and Grant Reddick.

Florida has continued to make a strong push for Walker, who committed to UCF in July. He is currently set to visit UF the weekend of Dec. 9.

Notable juniors expected to visit include Largo linebacker Adarius Hayes, Evans safety Brandon Jacob and Hewitt-Trussville (Ala.) offensive lineman Kade Martin. Osceola athlete Taevion Swint (Class of 2025) is also on the list.
