'[Plumlee] opened his recruitment again, and there was Malzahn again. UCF coaches wanted another quarterback ... didn’t promise him the starting job, but they told him he was a perfect fit for the offense and would be surrounded with weapons ... “They didn’t try to lie to me (in 2018) like a lot of schools at the time ... when I got in the portal again, I knew they were telling me the truth.” ... Florida State, South Alabama and Southern Miss also showed interest, but he trusted Malzahn.'
'“He’s a true dual-threat guy that can keep plays alive ... player of the week against the No. 1 defense in our league ... He does a great job getting us out of negative plays and he’s getting more comfortable. Remember, he played wide receiver for the past year and a half.”'
'Now with the team healthy and the early-season kinks worked out, UCF is playing its best ball. The Knights are in the top three in the league in scoring offense and defense.'
'Malzahn added that he hopes to save Keene’s redshirt this season; to do so, he can play in only two more games.'
'When the season ends, [Plumlee will] take a week off, go duck hunting, come back and suit up for the UCF baseball team. Plumlee is a two-sport athlete, and that was a requirement for his services when he decided to transfer ... “If you didn’t want me to play baseball, I wasn’t coming,” he said.'
'Malzahn has UCF back where it expects to be, competing for a conference championship and New Year’s Six bowl ... last season as an AAC and Group of 5 team, and they want to leave it with another championship ... “I thought this place was a goldmine before I got here, and now I believe it even more,” Malzahn said. “This place had great success before I got here, and everything is set up for the future.”'
Bonus ... (and I don't think this is very probably with SMU getting killed by Tulane)
'G5 Mailbag:
Does Coastal Carolina (or anyone outside of UCF, Cincinnati, and Tulane) have a shot at the New Year’s Six/Cotton Bowl? — Johnmark S.'
'At this point, it’s hard to see anyone but the AAC champion getting the bid. No. 20 UCF, No. 21 Tulane and No. 25 Cincinnati are all ranked in this week’s CFP Top 25, despite having two losses each. Coastal Carolina is unranked with one loss.'
'Cincinnati hosts Tulane on Nov. 25, eliminating one of them, and the winner will likely face UCF (which finishes with Navy and USF) in the AAC title game. The most likely path for someone outside the AAC would be a scenario in which Tulane loses to SMU this week, then beats Cincinnati. At that point, I’m not sure who would get in the AAC title game, but that team would then have to beat UCF. That would give everyone in the AAC at least three losses, clearing the way for Coastal Carolina (if it wins out).'
