Kavanaugh Vote Now in Jeopardy

The standard of proof is different. He's in a job interview for a LIFETIME position, nobody is putting Kavanaugh in jail or firing him from his current job.
You’re inventing goalposts that do not exist. This allegation was held purposefully until after the hearing period to be prejudicial. In a fair system, it should be excluded from the Senate’s consideration. The fact that the Senate is taking the step of a hearing at all is to show sensitivity to the potential victim and to deflect the impending war on women campaign from the left. All of the standard of proof stuff for this are irrelevant because the Senate should be examining him on the qualifications they already have.

Do you really think this is a good precedent to set?

They put out statements saying they don't remember, big difference in being interviewed. The FBI investigated the Anita Hill accusations, they should investigate this too.
The FBI has jurisdiction in the Thomas case because both were federal employees at the time of the alleged incident. The FBI has no jurisdiction in this incident. You can’t just use them as a secret political police to investigate whatever you want wherever.

Why is that? If Democrats REALLY believe these allegations and somehow do sink him, why would they allow him to remain a Circuit Court Judge? These accusations are disqualifying for the SC but not on the Circuit Court?

There is no 50% here. They are either going to smear and destroy Brett Kavanaugh's life here, or they're going to fail and these accusations will be overcome.

Afterall, it'd look pretyyyyyy political if they sunk his SC bid but let him stay on as a Circuit Court judge.

There is a statue of limitation. This is a lifetime appointment that will effect the lives of all Americans, Speedy Gonzalez. We should confirm the best people. Chill and let the process play out.

If anyone wants to whine about not having time for some elaborate investigation, then blame Diane Feinstein and any other Democrats that knew of this letter back in July. There was plenty of time to do "something" or whatever, but that time is gone. They didn't take this seriously and decided to merely use it as a nuclear political football to destroy Kavanaugh along partisan grounds.

too bad.

So there mere lifetime appointment is all that matters here? You're fine with having a "rapist" on the Circuit Court but not SC?

Why does the lifetime appointment even matter? It's irrelevant. You keep trying to making things relevant that aren't.

Really? Tell me more.

You are talking about removing someone vs promoting them. Completely different process.

Dr. Ford wanted to remain anonymous. It is my understanding that her name was leaked which brought this about.

Nobody has clean hands here. Both sides are playing dirty hard ball politics.

Stop it. She had a lawyer, had a polygraph, and scrubbed her social media long before the leak. People who expect to be anonymous don’t do those things.

It's not like the Dems didn't give you warning. They didn't fight too strongly against Gorsuch because it kept things status quo. They did say it would be war on the second nominee if it meant changing the status quo. President scorched Earth DGAF.

And there it is.

Feinstein held it till just before the vote. She knew it was weak and wanted to maximize the political damage.

The "victim" now wants a full FBI investigation before she will testify. Why? Because the Dems are trying anything to push the vote into the next Congress. That is the ONLY reason.

Kavanaugh has said it absolutely didn't happen. The "witness" has come out and said it absolutely didn't happen. Kavanaugh girlfriend from HS and College both said that is totally out of character for him. This is, AT BEST, a he said-she said that goes to nowhereville. "rumors" of a passed polygraph, but nobody knows what question was asked.

Dems are playing dirty politics ... and i get a sense that the people (other than left wing wackos) see thru it. I think Feinstein overplayed her hand on this one and made it way too obvious. Dems will now use this to drum up female votes in November.

Don't act like anybody has clean hands here. Mitch McConnell has been playing hardball for years. Kavanaugh might have his career ruined but this was a high risk/reward decision and he knew that.
Playing hardball while working within the rules is one thing. This is intentionally outside of the rules. It’s a bad precedent to set and it’s unfair to Kavanaugh and the American public. It’s more than his career; he’s now seen as a predator by a large chunk of society based on a claim that is basically unprovable. This is not the way our Republic is supposed to operate. We should expect more from our elected leaders.

Wow- what a disgusting comment. So basically you’re fine with a man’s life and career being ruined over false allegations all for the sake of political gain.

Mitch McConnell has never hatched disgusting smear campaigns that drag people down and destroy their character, as Feinstein and the democrats are doing here.

Welcome to the current political climate. What are the rules? There are none as long as the side that you cheer for wins. It's very sad.

Ashley Judd would disagree. McConnell is about as dirty it gets.

Snowflake, where did I say that I was fine with it? Kavanaugh is and has always been a pawn in this. He's submitted himself to be a pawn by allowing himself to be "groomed" by organizations like the Heritage foundation.

McConnell's staff discussed using Ashley Judd's mental health issues against her in a campaign but it didn't happen and that is as dirty as it gets versus Feinstein actually doing what she did. You equivocate 2 things that are not the same and then use that to justify anything. That is a dangerous way to go about life.

This guy is prominent in every conservative legal circle and is highly confident that not only will more come forward to clear Kavanaugh, but that legal action will likely be taken against Feinstein and her co conspirators

Liberals ... are all on board for playing dirty politics as long as it justifies their means.

LOL We had a President nominate Merritt Garland for the supreme court and the Senate doesn't even hold hearings for nearly eight months but 'playing dirty politics as long as it justifies their means' is a lib thing??!??!!? Oooooookay.

The other person delivered a statement, not under oath and didn't take a lie detector test. There were other people at this so called party, why not interview them? It's not that difficult to determine who is telling the truth. Ford said that she was assaulted at this party, Kavanaugh says he was even at this party. First let's determine if there was a party.
It is that difficult because she doesn’t know when, who or where? Who are they going to interview?

I live dangerously. It gets dirtier, ask Matt Bevin or that 12yo SCHIP boy.

Did anyone destroy Garland as a person? As a father? As a human? Your comparison is totally ridiculous.

They respectfully declined to hold a vote. Democrats launched a last second smear campaign to utterly destroy Kavanaughs character since they had nothing else to go on.

It’s not compatible, and you thinking it is tells me how far gone the dignity of the left is

all they are trying to do is postpone past november elections in the hope that the dems get a majority back in the senate so that they can vote no on kavanaugh and then any future trump supreme court nomination.

KavaYEAH. KavaNAH.

All the Republicans are trying to do is ram through a nominee before the election so they can overturn past rullings.

What is totally ridiculous is to have a branch of government totally subvert the will of the people. Just as Trump has every right to nominate a candidate for the SCOTUS, so did President Obama. But instead of doing their job, they played dirty politics. Now this same bunch wants us to ignore an alleged 'youthful indiscretion' (i.e. sexual assault) even if it does speak volumes about character 36 years later.

A Supreme Court nominee EXPECTS to be grilled by the Senate Judicial Committee. It's a lifetime appointment that has a great deal of influence on the social fabric of our country. To not follow up on this allegation before acting on this nominee would be criminal. The accuser is not just 'someone off the street.' Her allegations deserve to be reviewed.

If they can't act like adults eff them all. I don't care what your idealogy is but I expect you to act like a grown up. I have to in my job.

This didn’t come up during the hearings. It came up after at the 11th hour as Democrats hatched their disgusting false accusation smear campaign.

You didn’t answer my question because you know you’re in the wrong here. Republicans did not seek out to destroy Garland as a man, as extremist Democrats are doing here to Kavanaugh

It’s disgusting

Wow ... you will believe anything people feed you. It's sad. If Feinstein was truly upset about this, she would have questioned him about it when she had the chance. She would have turned it over for investigation.

She dropped a bomb, which is most likely a lie, at the very last second in order to delay the vote. Most lefties are parroting it because the theme of the RESIST movement is by any means necessary.

The funny thing is ... dumb people with no critical thinking skills are actually agreeing with it. That is the part where you come in.

Who gives a sh*t about the timing??!!?!? What's with the rush to a vote for crying out loud???

A creditable accusation about a nominee to the Supreme Court has surfaced. At the very least, the Senate should take enough time to see if there is anything to the accusation. God forbid, we see a "Cosby rerun" with a 81-year old Kavanaugh facing new allegations because no one ever took the first ones seriously. Given their pathetic treatment of Justice Garland, you'd think the Republicans would be able to delay a vote for a few weeks to investigate this matter more fully.

There is nothing credible about it all. Nobody has corroborated her claim, quite the contrary as a matter of fact. She wont testify, she can't remember details of any kind, there's nothing but a thin accusation of something that supposedly happened almost 40 years ago.

With all due respect, Crazy, instead of a regurgitation of the Republican judiciary committee's latest talking points, I'd prefer to hear what the FBI has to say after investigating the matter.
