Maybe instead of giving money to Ukraine, we contract oil producers to expedite drilling, expand refining capacity, and produce more fertilizer. Choke off Putins honeypot by flooding the market with the commodities that he's getting rich off of.
It seems rather elementary. Immediate approval of oil leases with financial incentives to increase supply. Add government backed projects on federal lands for a higher royalty kick backs to taxpayers. Guarantee oil companies an incentive to over supply the market. For the environmentalists use the royalties for energy efficiency programs.
On one hand we are giving away billions a week to an endless proxy war. Then the war is enriching Russia from increased oil prices while making us have run away inflation because we won't fill the energy gap.
We still have about 4 million barrels per day of unused capacity in refining, and also a depleted strategic reserve. There's no reason that we shouldn't focus on upping our oil extraction right now, even if that means we have to subsidize a few oil producers.
Definitely cheaper to subsidize oil producers and choke out the putin war machine vs just doing nothing and handing over $50 billion per month to ukraine to an endless war. Just maybe oversupplying oil can tame inflation too which was self inflected in the first place.
And you think this is going to be accomplished in a few weeks or a a few months? That still might not change anything in regards to India and China buying oil cheaply. If we don’t support Ukraine at all, then they will basically overrun Ukraine quickly and we still are going to spend more money supporting the next country they set their sights on
If you can drop the price of oil below Russia's production cost, you cut their revenue stream. Yes, I think we could accomplish it in the matter of a few months, but more importantly the traders that actually set the price would lower their bids so it would have an immediate effect.
Look, we know that Russia will eventually take whatever part of Ukraine they want. Then, if they choose to move on they will take the next country. Either we engage them militarily or we find a way to actually impoverish them.

Last month we were already over $50 billion not counting the already purchased equipment given to ukraine. At the rate of spending with the endless war, we will spend a trillion on a proxy war. So either just negotiate with Russia or lose a trillion with nothing in return.
