This is the ultimate irony here. Liberals bitching because our military is being used to secure our own border.
The Fox News coverage has tried hard to make the asylum seekers out to be an invading horde -- and from the looks of this board, it's working.

Makes sense to use the military to reinforce the port of entry and set up the facilities needed to House, feed, and care for a large group of people for an extended time while the asylum process is completed. What other world class organization has the structure, assets, training, expertise, and resources can respond to and sustain to such a need?

We don't even have to accept request for asylum, International law says it must be requested in the first country that will accept the request after leaving their own country. That is Mexico not USA. The troops will not be guarding border, simply doing all the extra background stuff to free up all border police to go to the border. I am all for the tent cities, make them as comfortable and clean as possible. Make sure they know that will be home for 2 to 3 years, they can leave anytime they desire to go home, but will not be able to come into the US.

2.) If they ever get to the border (1000 miles away), US Customs and Border Protection is there to protect the border.

If they are processed legally, maybe. But we know that won't happen for all of them. And we know that illegal immigration remains a problem, so no - we'll hear about this for years to come until the problem is finally fixed.

Under international law, anyone has the right to apply for asylum in any country that has signed the 1951 Convention and to remain there until the authorities have assessed their claim. There is nothing in international law to say that refugees must claim asylum in the first country they reach.
These laregely aren't refugees and they're also not applying for asylum once in Mexico which goes against the First Safe Country Principle that has been held up in court with cases related to S Africa asylum cases.
