UCF Portal Thread-signings/rumors

It’s almost like people don’t understand the nuances of what constitutes winning football. People see a quarterback throw a ball and think that one player causes a team to win or lose. UCF was a Top 10-20 offense in the country with JRP at quarterback this year. I don’t think it takes a savior at QB to win a few more football games.

Are people are blind to the fact that this was one of the worst run defenses in the country, the team is in desperate need of LB’s and overall depth on defense, and that UCF’s defense let them down considerably more than their offense this season?
No one disagrees with you, but if you have a chance to get a Grayson McCall in your program, you jump at it.

We have no idea the trickle effect landing Grayson would have had on landing other portal guys or guys still in high school or players currently on the UCF roster.

I'm the end, Gus wasn't willing to overreach financially.

The OL are the unsung heroes of the team. Games are won or lost based on their performance in the trenches. If they can give the QB 5-7 seconds to make a good throw the offense will score points. Case in point, Bortles career in JAX - they barely win 3 games per year. Bortles had between 3-5 seconds to find a receiver and throw. The team invests in an OL in Y4, the Jags go to the playoffs. Bortles had nearly 7 seconds each play to find a receiver and throw. The following year, they trade away/injuries and end up being a subpar team as usual. IF we can get a good OL and a defense that clicks all game, we can work wonders with a decent QB.

Bryon Threats is the one that got kicked out when we played Cinci for hitting the ref.

Can't beat them (literally and figuratively), then Join them. :p

...unfamiliar with Sulka…..what is your opinion on him?
He isn't Grayson McCall good. He doesn't run like JRP; he does throw like him unfortunately. He isn't a fluid passer at all.

If you watch his high school film, he looks like he plays in private school football. He was a good fit for Holy Cross.

I think he is "average as pond water" as Gus would say. That being said, I would take him in a heartbeat over taking nobody. Really is no downside to a one-year rental.

Matt Sluka, QB
Sluka is the biggest name of all the Holy Cross transfers, and he entered the portal prior to Chesney’s decision to leave. The standout quarterback was the 2023 Patriot League Offensive Player of the Year, and he’s been one of the best FCS quarterbacks for a few seasons.

In his Holy Cross career, Sluka has 5,916 passing yards and 59 touchdowns compared to just 15 interceptions. He’s also added a mind-blowing 3,583 rushing yards and 38 rushing touchdowns. He’s not the purest passer, but he’s an elite athlete who has improved as a passer in recent seasons. His running ability makes him a nightmare for opposing defenses.

Sluka has drawn interest from Power Five programs, and he might seek a lucrative NIL deal from a school other than JMU.

On Sluka, making a projection from fcs to P5 might be difficult…..runs for a crapload of yards, but he isn’t fast or terribly athletic…..he wouldn’t be facing what looked like high school defensive lines here.

THIS guy as a 1 year rental?……Mmmm okay, not like he would intimidate anyone into leaving

This sport was already chaotic enough

Potentially not good for UCF...

Could mean bye bye Javon Baker, Kody Hudson, RJ Harvey, Demarkcus Bowman, and maybe even Timmy McClain.

Amari Kight, Ricky Barber, and Lee Hunter could cash in along with Brandon Adams and K.D. McDaniel could look for a new home elsewhere.

On the flip side, Dionte Marks could free up a scholarship.

We are about to find out which players really trust Gus!

You literally have no idea what you’re talking about. A few of those players you mentioned are completely out of eligibility, and a handful of the others you mentioned could have left regardless of that ruling (if they’ve graduated). Troll harder.

Who is out of eligibility? Whether they graduated is a moot* point now provided they are 'on track.'

EDIT: Bowman cannot transfer because he has transferred twice already.

Given the new transfer rules change, I have a new No. 1 target as a top QB portal option, even higher on my list than Grayson McCall.

You incorrectly mentioned D. Patterson above. He is out of eligibility (redshirt in ‘18, COVID ‘20, played ‘19, ‘21-‘23).

You incorrectly mentioned S. Peterson Jr. above. He is out of eligibility (redshirt in ‘18, COVID ‘20, played ‘19, ‘21-‘23).

You are correct. They weren't listed as Fifth Year on the UCF roster, and I overlooked those two. Fixed. And thank you.

“Which players trust Gus “. Trust him on what exactly? Two drafts and got zero players drafted.

You mean a productive starter from a P5 team known for defense? When we need any and every defensive transfer we can get? You’re so dumb man.
He really is a clueless moron but thinks he knows everything, You can always tell the quality of a transfer by how the fans from former team react. Bearcat fans not happy.

And yes Lobo is mentally challenged or just a UCF hater, Maybe feels threatened that UCF will surely pass that crap school he follows … if it hasn’t already. Enjoy ur Wednesday 2:30 bowl 😂😂. Who are they playing again ?

NFL good O line is 3 seconds. College is 4. If you are getting more than that your O line is real good. 7 seconds would be Bamas.

OT: I just read an article where Oklahoma has now lost its entire OL to the portal. This sh_t is out of control and needs some rules so that teams can actually figure out a roster. Somehow be able to lock in players for at least two seasons at a time. Only in the current NIL world would a top notch program lose an entire OL…it’s like where are you going to go to get a better opportunity?

The college game is f-ed for the foreseeable future.
