UCF vs Kansas St Game Thread ⚔️⚔️🖤💛

Y'all need to chill out. This was a really good loss for us.

We have a back up QB, 2 turnovers, and we're clearly outsized on both lines and we went back and forth the whole game until the middle of the 4th with the defending Big 12 champs who returned a lot of players from last year

You can play that both ways, Kansas State had a back up RB, QB that missed practice this week, lost their defensive captain and replaced him with a freshman, shanked a chip shot FG.

K-State's offensive line and quarterback were the difference in the game. The Oline made that sh*tty back look like Emmitt Smith. I think UCF prepared for Avery and got Will.

Howard didn't need to practice, he's been there forever, he won the big 12 last year. It wasn't their RB that made the run game effective, it was the size of their Oline and tight ends.

I disagree, I'm chalking this up as a win for UCF in learning how good we are and who we are. We have the talent and the heart but need to clean up penalties and bad decisions. We need more size on the lines. We need to stop gimmicky trick plays.

Most importantly we have the juju that will lead to wins and an upward trajectory.

I’m fine with our skill guys on offense. Line is still trying to find a little cohesion, but not terrible on that side of the ball tonight (besides the fumble).

But man, the defense was pathetic. Back to the last couple of years - poor fundamentals, missing tackles, horrible angles, penalties, not a lot of pressure. We just looked so damn small.

And I was told in this thread earlier tonight our guys should be running circles around them…our fanbase lol.

also you can have an opinion on who the better QB going forward is but some of the attacks on ‘X’ are crossing the line . Be better UCF fans

Neither QB is playing defense and getting bullied all night by their OLine and RB2

Perhaps so, but coaches didn't help him much and I don't think we would have done any better with JRP. I still believe the game was winable and I think players played with a lot of heart and spirit against a pretty good team.
How
TM in a nutshell: good thrower, poor decision maker
He’s young and maybe that decision making will never get better but you have to expect some leaning curve there. I miss George.

Kansas State is a mid team that humiliated the Knights. Kansas State lost to garbage Missouri team.

Dumb take. Really dumb. No offense directed at you. You are just hurt after the loss.

Missouri played two games and held back showing stuff on offense to surprise K-State with throws down the field.

Missouri is a darkhorse to win the SEC. Missouri gave Georgia its toughest regular season game.

K-State didn't "dominate" the Knights. UCF led in the third quarter and failed to finish it out.

K-State was more physical up front and physically whipped up on UCF.

Plumlee would have picked up more yards with his legs, but also wouldn't have made those deep throws.

Also Kansas State defense would have laid some hard shots on Plumlee if he doesn't give himself up.

Plumlee will be back starting with how Malzahn wants to run this team, how long he can stay healthy is the bigger question.

I'm sure you're right. Not sure it's going to work out well.

Just one question....

If McClain had finished the game with no drops or plays called back due to penalties, would the attitudes toward him be different?

People need to give McClain a break. The man played a good game. He kept us in it till the end.

Yes he made mistakes he'll have to work on, but the man is a fighter and gave it all he had.

People are being too f'n critical, we aren't f'n Alabama.

The UCF fanbase is so embarrassing sometimes. Boo Milton off the field as a freshmen in the Cure Bowl, then he can do no wrong and becomes the QB everyone else gets compared to.

When Gabriel goes down, they turn on him and call him sock boy. But then somehow also talk a ton of shit about Keene when he was clearly overmatched, not ready yet, and doing the best he could with a limited playbook as a true freshmen. But then he becomes everyone’s favorite QB on the roster within one year after Plumlee plays inconsistently.

Now McClain does the best he can in a tough spot on the road, and people go on Twitter taking shots at him (when the defense gives up 550 yards).

Incredible lack of football knowledge. “Can’t comprehend what is wrong with what I’m looking at, I’ll blame it all on the quarterback”.

Yeah, defense got pushed around and still need more work on tackling.

McClain gives UCF a chance to win.

Spot on. They have no concept on how to evaluate the game . The way the game went there was pressure on our QB to respond EVERY DRIVE in a sold out stadium that our Program quite frankly is not used to. If our D makes more stops maybe that brain fart doesn’t happen , pressure mounts in tough environments where it is easier to make a miscue like that bc you have no room for error bc of how overmatched the defense was all night

My quick takes:
1) We played better than I expected.
2) Their lines dominated…which eventually wore us down.
3) We had to play pretty much mistake free football to have a chance and we didn’t.
4) I thought there were plenty of questionable penalties that changed the outcome of the game. At least the refs seemed to be equally “bad” against both teams, although I thought the outcomes effected UCF more.
5) Timmy has pocket presence, and slides in the pocket to avoid sacks while still keeping his eyes downfield. He’s pretty elusive as well.
6) We fought for the entire game. I like the moxy I saw for a tough road game. Guys never quit.
7) That play where Timmy “glitched-out” was just weird, and was a costly mistake.
8) Baker disappeared today.

I would much rather roll with Timmy for the next 3 years (including this one) than roll with JRP but I understand he won the job and when he’s healthy again, he’ll be the starter. I just think Timmy has a lot more upside. I think we’ve already seen “peak” JRP.

Missouri is going to get destroyed in the S.E.C. Their QB situation sucks even worse the UCF's does. It really all came down to Gussy not having the stones to go for it on 4th and 2.

Fresno State 53 - Kent State 10. Lol. Keene went off 24/31 325 YDS 3 TD & 0 INT. So who has UCF beat again?

Old head Malhazan has been sunshine pumping you fans since day one. The “new Hinshaw” offense. Lmao.

We played the defending champs, a team that's bigger and better than us, with our qb1 out. We got pushed around. The guys fought really hard and kept it close, if not having the lead, for most of it. As dominant as K-State's line was, it could've been a bloodbath.

I'm not saying its a moral victory, far from it. It's a loss. It's a new day in the Big 12 though, where it doesn't feel as bad as a loss to our one P5 opponent would've been in previous years. Compared to losing to Louisville on the road, this one is a lot easier to swallow. We've got 8 more Big 12 opponents on the regular season schedule: 8 more opportunities to show our quality. It's a lot better than previous years, having 8 games that we have to win with style points in order to be taken seriously.

This is the sane take. The crux was we got bullied on both lines. It was the biggest mismatch and is the position group everyone knows needs improvement going from G5 to P5. Everyone can blame Gus but I thought most of the play calling was not too bad and Gus has definitely called worse games for us. Look at any team's forum and someone will be blaming the play calls though. We didn't get locked down and managed several explosive plays.

Timmy outside of his few head scratching plays, is a more natural passer and keeps his eyes down the field which is hard to find in the era of athlete QBs.

Bottom line is: In spite of getting run over, if we don't commit 1-2 of those penalties and a bad play or two and its potentially a FG game for either team. Add in a veteran K-state team, in an actual road environment and you have to play almost perfect.
