when Derek Chauvin inevitably walks ...

Oh, it ending up being 'a wash?' Good to know.

Guess it's a damn good thing I checked out this thread then for an 'unbiased' take. Tonight on the evening news the MSM was reporting this was a devastating day for the Chauvin defense as a result of the testimony of an expert witness who was crystal clear that Chauvin's actions prevented Floyd from being able to breathe. They also said the defense wasn't able to get him to move him off that expert opinion.

I'm tickled I've got our Chauvin Channel reporters to give me a 'reality check.' :)
Why even chime in if all you are going to do is tell us what Rachel Maddow told you to believe?

Yes, it was a good day for the prosecution but not a decisive day. Like I said earlier, they left some questions open. That's kind of what being objective is all about

I’m sure Shook believed the MSM when they said that Zimmerman was as guilty as a man could be and the state of Florida had done a great job that would yield a conviction. And on the Freddie Gray trials. And Michael Brown. Because the MSM has such a great track record of being right.

It was a normal day for the prosecution. Their experts said what they were supposed to say. This is how the other days should’ve gone.

Dr. Tobin made claims about how he could precisely measure and detect biological processes, weight distribution, etc. just from a cell phone video that will be destroyed by a defense expert. He also considered only one factor in his analysis, another thing that will come out later.

This is the theme with all of their experts; they mashed things up and ignored the totality of circumstances to bake their decisions. Defense can’t argue with them on cross so it won’t be until the defense calls it’s experts that you’ll hear the rest of the story.

I thought it was actually a pretty good day for the prosecution. The Irish dude was a really good witness for them. The second guy, with the painfully funny comb over (sorry, but everybody knows that is a bad look) kind of equalized things.

I hear ya but it looked that way because the other days were so horrible that this looked good by comparison. There wasn’t anything groundbreaking or explosive today, just the normal expert witnesses making the state’s case. I still believe that they’re going to need stronger testimony to be able to stem off what the defense is going to do. Michael Baden is going to look like a rock star for the state in comparison to these three.

This is exactly what is happening. I just hope that it doesn't muddle things up in the jurors minds. I suspect that it's all part of the prosecution's strategy.

A medical expert testifies that Floyd died from a low level of oxygen caused by restraint and THAT wasn't anything groundbreaking or explosive'??!?

LOL Yeah, shame on me for listening to the ABC and NBC evening news shows.

I don't recall a bystander cellphone video of that altercation.

Of course it wasn't explosive. The states case is that Floyd died from low oxygen caused by Chauvin kneeling on him. What would you expect their witnesses to say?

The lady right now is by far the best witness up to this point. Seems very credible and very fair.

Wow. She just said that the prone position is not inherently dangerous if there are no other factors involved. The defense is doing really well here.

Now he's on to the cocktail of drugs in his body and their effect. Jesus.
The meth made his heart speed up and the fentanyl made his breathing slow down. Add that to his coronary artery disease and the adrenaline, she just made a great case that this was an overdose and said if not for the police aspect of this she would declare it was exactly that. Wow.

She obviously didn't see the video of Chauvin kneeling on his neck! - Shuckster

But then didn't she say the cause of death was homicide???

Yeah. Which kind of seemed like a WTF? moment to me. The redirect isn't doing any help to their case either. He should have just ignored all of that stuff and focused on the original line of questioning.

The line of questioning about the word "complicating" was pretty interesting. To paraphrase the coroner, he said "pulmonary arrest complicating the police arrest". That isn't the same as saying "pulmonary arrest complicated by police arrest". I'm curious to see where both sides go with this when the coroner testifies.

I could be wrong but it’s almost like she is sticking to a self-imposed narrative in the face of a mountain of evidence.

Well she's a witness for the prosecution for a reason. She truly does believe that Chauvin killed Floyd. It was painful in some ways to see the defense pick it apart because she's personally invested in this for whatever reason.

The prosecution is running out of witnesses. At this point, I can't imagine them being able to get a conviction.

I don’t disagree. But she is supposed to let the science speak—not her conscience.

Agreed 100%. It's human nature so I can't totally fault her on it, but it was pretty obvious that she was upset when she knew her testimony was going against her own beliefs.

They can’t. Redirect has to be in scope of the cross. Then recross in the redirect. That way they don’t go on forever.

Cahill has allowed a lot of latitude in testimony. You had eyewitnesses offering expert opinions without certification (and requisite background) and you’ve had expert witnesses testifying outside of their expertise. At some point the defense has to object, I suppose, and you can’t object to everything or the trial will take a year.

I like how Cahill has handled things up to this point. He's got a major issue on his hands now though with both Morries claiming the 5th and a juror that has a book deal already.

Dr. Baker just testified on cross that forensic pathologists just don’t see pressure to the back of the neck causing asphyxia.

The coroner said that he didn't see the video of the Floyd arrest before he made his determination on COD, but noted there being a complication with the arrest. Hmm.

Coroner: there is no safe level of meth for a person with coronary artery disease.

Question: why in the hell is the corner commenting on a complication with the arrest?

That's why I thought the questioning about the terminology he used was interesting. He said that he avoided watching the video so that his opinion wouldn't be tainted, but the autopsy refers to the arrest, which insinuates that he had an understanding of what happened. How can both be true at the same time?

Dr. Baker had been alerted that the body he was going to work on was part of a police use of force with restraint. But no specifics.
