Rivals has continued its partnership with Pro Football Focus (PFF) which grants me access to their comprehensive analytics and statistical tools.

After each game, two separate analysts grade every player on each play of the game and the two totals are averaged out. Obviously no subjective ranking system is perfect, but I am finding that my real world impressions of a player in a certain game usually reflects the PFF grade.

80 to 89 - Great
70 to 79 - Good
60 to 69 - Average to Above Average
50 - 59 - Below Average
49 and below - Poor

Regarding funding other sports, TMo says he doesn't foresee having to cut any programs anytime soon but they will need to make "triage" decisions in how they fund certain sports. Just found that interesting.

Came across this note on Ladarian Clardy ahead of his commitment coming on Saturday.

The first 2 games didn't really tell us who our team was. There was all sorts of concerns regarding KJ and our passing game. Could we count on it and him if things got tight or went sideways . I don't like to say we, as it is really Gus and Company and the team. What "we" think is truly irrelevant.

I have not felt excited about UCF football in earnest since 2018. Sure I go to games and such but Saturday stirred something inside regarding UCF football and this team.

Those young men came together Saturday night in a great away venue, dug down and dug out. They won. They won and never lost composer or hope. They showed Gus and company they had it. They had belief in his system and the mental toughness to see it through. For that alone makes Saturday incredible.

As a fan, alum and season ticket holder I have no clue where the ride will take us over the next 10 weeks . I know this Saturday night made me a believer in our Knights. When the chips are down they will have it.

I pondered the question today driving around town. What would have been better to dominate the entire game and come out with a victory or win like they did? Each has it merits. Win decisively and you show the world you can steam roll people, but does it build character ? Adversity builds character even in defeat. Win like they did builds chemistry . It builds a belief when things go sideways in life and on the field you can overcome it.

Saturday's win was incredible because those guys came together and built a team forged through fire. They won't panic in other hostile venues if and when things don't go well. They have faith in one another and trust their coach.

Football is mental as much as it is physical. Those guys from where I sit truly experienced something great. I think this victory will carry them in the tough weeks ahead. It's the launching pad to potentially something very special this season.

It turns out i was right again.

Trump assassin was a biden/harris supporter from hawaii who was apparently on welfare but had enough money to fly to FL and somehow knew trump would be playing golf yesterday and also knew to show up at the 6th hole while was closest to trump and also somehow had a weapon that is illegal to americans but often used in ukraine.

We could have died Saturday night but we showed incredible grit and carried ourselves with moxie.The DNA of last year’s team would have been demoralized being down by 21. This felt more like Louisville 2013 with a just-chip-away attitude. We’re now lucky to be 3-0 on a BYE with arguably the biggest home game of the Malzahn tenure from a national interest perspective coming next, as we host Fort Myers native son in his Sunshine State return.

UCF pulls out impressive road win at TCU

There’s something special about being a college football fan. It’s not like pro football where you can attach yourself to being a fan of a city you like or following the career of a favorite player you grew fond of, or a team’s jersey and color scheme that you enjoy. No, college football fandom is etched into you by regionality, generational heartache, or a place you gave money to for four or more years, that served as the foundation for your adult life. It’s our little cyclical sickness that remerges every fall when we allow 18-22-year-olds to dictate our moods through the good and the bad. Sports is the best reality show going and sometimes the truth is stranger than fiction.

Obviously Kobe is a stud but I was hoping for other options running good routes downfield. X is not as big a part as I had hoped. Maybe Pittman some. Or is KJ just needing to get in groove more and get comfortable with other WRs?

Which company are you happy with?

FPI is very much imperfect but as a data nerd it’s interesting to watch it adjust to more games being played (more data points).

At start of season we were showing 45-60% chance to win most games with our lowest being about 30% to win at UF.

Now after week 3 we are 67% chance to win at FL. Our highest FPI is colorado right now at 87% while our lowest is currently @ASU at 61%.

The analytics show that UF just might not be very talented or that we may just be very underrated. Thats why we play the game

Pretty concerning. It’s a weird feeling when I’m watching our defense I’m always hoping on third down it’s short yardage vs long because we can’t stop a team on 3rd and 10 for our life so far.
