UCF Knights Embark on a Journey Navigating a New Conference

Now that the extended College Baseball pre-show known as the “Super Bowl” has concluded, let’s talk about this upcoming UCF Baseball season.

UF - State Championship in Football

Florida has the unique opportunity to beat UM, FSU and UCF next year. I think this year will be boom or bust for Billy Napier. If they can beat all three state schools, it will be a feather in his cap for recruiting. However, if they lose to Miami and UCF in week 5, Billy is fired by week 5.5.

UF has the toughest schedule I have seen so far. 8 SEC games, FSU, UM and UCF as out of conference games. Only patsy is Samford.

Do those guys have the squad to make it happen?

UCF Basketball Press Conference - Johnny Dawkins, Omar Payne & Jaylin Sellers 🏀

After a falling short in a pair of games on the road, UCF returns home this Saturday for a pivotal game against Cincinnati.

The Knights and Bearcats both have a 4-7 record in Big 12 play. Cincinnati won the first matchup against UCF on Jan. 27, 68-57, a game in which UCF led by 12 at halftime. The Bearcats are 1-3 since, beating Texas Tech on the road and losing to West Virginia, Houston and Iowa State.

Cincinnati has three players scoring in double figures: Dan Skillings Jr. (12.2 ppg), Viktor Lakhin (10.7 ppg) and Day Day Thomas (10.4 ppg).

We caught up with Johnny Dawkins, Omar Payne and Jaylin Sellers on Thursday.

Reflecting on the game at BYU, Dawkins never questions the fight and energy his team puts on the floor. He thought they didn't defend well without fouling - BYU made 40 free throws. That's a rare feat. They must do a better job of being disciplined and not fouling.

This game against Cincinnati is big. After losing two games, they can't let things snowball. They must respond.

Dawkins thinks they've done some better things of late. Despite slow starts, the offense picked up in the second half vs. BYU. Their pace and spacing was better.

CJ Walker makes a big difference when he's on the court, as does Ibrahima Diallo. It's taking some time for CJ especially to get reacclimated and get his rhythm back.

Dawkins wants his team to have a better understanding of shot selection.

Nils Machowski is playing more and more because he's been earning it in practice.

Cincinnati is really talented. They had too many easy opportunities to score in the last game.

Diallo is "improving" and "giving what he has." He missed Texas Tech and returned for BYU, didn't really practice prior to that game.

The team has done a better job in maintaining composure in road environments.

You have to bring your A-game every night in the Big 12.

There's familiarity now they're facing Cincinnati for the second time.

Omar Payne

Reflecting on the BYU loss, Payne says they must play well from the jump and not face a big early deficit.

They have to come ready to play against Cincinnati.

Payne is definitely thinking about what they need to do to reach the postseason, but is still keeping it focused on one game at a time.

Free throws must improve.

They don't want to get swept in the season series by Cincinnati.

Payne is a little banged up, but he's fighting through it. Everybody is dealing with something right now.

Payne feels Cincinnati is a must-win game.

Jaylin Sellers

They have to start games off stronger, so they aren't always fighting to come back.

They're just a few plays off from winning many of these games. Free throws a big reason.

Sellers is viewing all these remaining games as must win.

Nils is really working hard and it showed in the BYU game.

He has "no doubt" they're going to make the NCAA Tournament.

It's very important to protect the home court.

With Cincinnati and Houston being former AAC teams, he thinks those teams are UCF's biggest rivals right now.

He expects Cincinnati to play hard, crash the boards and get out in transition.

Anyone interested in swapping UCF Baseball Club seats??????

Hello everyone.

As many of you know the UCF Baseball Club seats area is sold out this year.

For several years I have only bought one club seat and traded with others who also couldn’t make every game.

If you have a Club seat and are interested in trading please indicate if you are.

I generally don‘t attend any of the Sunday games so my Sunday ticket is always available.
I like to take my wife to weekday/Friday games so I need another ticket then…

Thanks in advance…

49ers Didn't Know the New Playoff OT Rules

The NFL playoff overtime rules changed several years ago, but Super Bowl LVIII was the first playoff game where the new format was in effect. The basics of the new overtime rules are simple: both teams get possession of the ball no matter if a team scores a touchdown on the opening possession or not. The Kansas City Chiefs certainly knew what was going on. The San Francisco 49ersdid not. And that was the ball game: Chiefs 25, 49ers 22.

UCF is scaling back baseball broadcasts on ESPN+ ⚾

The good news:

Every Big 12 conference game will be streamed by ESPN+, home and away. And UCF will now play 30 conference games (up from 24 in the AAC), so conference action gets started much sooner (March 8 at Oklahoma).

The bad news:

UCF is scaling back on the non-conference broadcasts (there are 19 OOC games at home in total).

Of those 19, UCF will broadcast 7:

-Opening Knight vs. Bryant
-Friday & Sunday vs. usf
-Midweek vs. Stetson
-Midweek vs. FAU
-Friday & Sunday vs. Central Michigan

12 games will not be broadcast:

-Final 2 vs. Bryant
-Entire Samford series
-Saturday vs. usf
-2 midweek vs. UNF
-Saturday doubleheader vs. CMU
-Midweek vs. FGCU
-Midweek vs. BCU

I believe last year UCF broadcast every OOC game except three, and I think those had direct conflicts with Sunday afternoon MBB ESPN+ home games.

It sounds like this is part of the rumored budget crunch, possibly due to the PAC additions (TMo has told shareholders they are getting $4M less than anticipated). I've heard they hope to maintain a full ESPN+ next year.
