Looking back at our short history in college football, I’m still surprised at how rapidly our program advanced through each conference (MAC, cUSA, AAC). You still see most of the 2002 MAC teams still in the MAC in 2021, after we’ve jumped several conferences since. It isn’t until cUSA where we share the field with many familiar teams for many years later.
Seeing so much hate for us recently, I’m wondering what fanbase, at the very least, seem to tolerate us. There’s just so much hate for us everywhere. Cinci hates us, Memphis hates, usf would kill their mother if it meant we didn’t exist….the only ones that I feel don’t necessarily hate us that much is ECU. I’ve seen a lot of mutual respect between us, and we’ve played each other a long time (most games ever I believe). I’ve never actually watched a game there so I wouldn’t know the atmosphere. Would maybe throw in Tulsa but meh. Houston?
From a UCF fan point of view, I don’t mind half the times I just listed other than usf. Would say we have a lot in common with Houston. They share a similar conference history with us and have had success, even winning a NY6 bowl in the AAC (we’re the only two AAC teams that have done that). Cinci talks big but until they bring home the big chip, I give more importance to Houston. And I feel their fans don’t necessarily hate us unlike Cinci fans.
