SOT:

Did anyone see Game Day today? I was driving home and listening on Sirius when the topic of the top 4 playoff teams came up.

Corso started ranting about Cincy being undeserving because of being a G5 team. He's been very adamant about that the last couple weeks.

However, that wasn't the interesting part to me. He said the G5 and P5 should have separate rankings and play separate playoffs. Then I heard Herbstreit giggling saying that was going to happen very soon. In fact, he said sooner than later.

The way he was giggling and giddy about it made me feel like he knew something. I was listening in my truck, so maybe I read too much into it, but did anyone else catch that today?

Which team/fanbase has the best camaraderie with UCF?

Looking back at our short history in college football, I’m still surprised at how rapidly our program advanced through each conference (MAC, cUSA, AAC). You still see most of the 2002 MAC teams still in the MAC in 2021, after we’ve jumped several conferences since. It isn’t until cUSA where we share the field with many familiar teams for many years later.

Seeing so much hate for us recently, I’m wondering what fanbase, at the very least, seem to tolerate us. There’s just so much hate for us everywhere. Cinci hates us, Memphis hates, usf would kill their mother if it meant we didn’t exist….the only ones that I feel don’t necessarily hate us that much is ECU. I’ve seen a lot of mutual respect between us, and we’ve played each other a long time (most games ever I believe). I’ve never actually watched a game there so I wouldn’t know the atmosphere. Would maybe throw in Tulsa but meh. Houston?

From a UCF fan point of view, I don’t mind half the times I just listed other than usf. Would say we have a lot in common with Houston. They share a similar conference history with us and have had success, even winning a NY6 bowl in the AAC (we’re the only two AAC teams that have done that). Cinci talks big but until they bring home the big chip, I give more importance to Houston. And I feel their fans don’t necessarily hate us unlike Cinci fans.

NIL tweets

The new reality is our top players need or expect interactions related to NIL. This will be an aspect of recruiting. If you are on Twitter, maybe take just a few seconds to retweet or like players tweets related to this stuff and help them promote their products. Don’t shoot the messenger. This is indeed the new world we are in.

Call me old school

Most of us picked UCF as our school and took 6 years to earn that sheep skin. We are true to our alma matter. It's why we love our team .

I think ,though I can't do anything about it, between the transfer portal and NIL it will ruin the sport. DG was handed the reigns by KZ who graciously left to go to FSU. KZ loves UCF and in return we love him. How many stars will stay at their school from start to graduation? will UCF be a stepping stone college for NIL ?

IT seems NIL and transfer ruins loyalty to the school. its dings the team attitude . I like the good old days when a kid signs a letter and you know you got him at least until his junior year .

Lastly, it seems a player could harm his brand here. How many UCF fans are going to buy his brand going forward? Once the world wakes up to these kids jumping ship for the next best thing I wonder if more and more just walk away from the sport ?

unintended consequences of nil and transfer portal.

Is the death of team and school loyalty

If I am annoyed with DG is KZ left because it was now DGs team. DG is leaving because why? Build his brand ? I may be in the minority here ,but honestly, I would rather have a loyal sucky KZ and lose a game or two than have this disloyal DG..KZ could have stayed and DG just transfer because he is doing it now .

Lastly, it seems a player could harm his brand here. How many UCF fans are going to buy Dillons' brand going forward? Once the world wakes up to these kids jumping ship for the next best thing I wonder if more and more just walk away from the sport ? College sports was about loyalty ,your school and all that . Now it's about how can a player go where he can maximize his NIL.
