Delicious Bull Tears Mega Thread

There is a HUGE difference between the UCF team that went 0-12 and the USF Bulls team right now. UCF was the Conference Champions of the BE 2 years prior and Champion of the AAC the prior year. When we had the 0-12 year, in the first game UCF's starting RB, C, 2 DL, and a Corner all had season ending injuries. The Center broke his neck somewhere in the 2Q. By game 3, we lost our QB for 7 games due to breaking his throwing wrist (Holman). We also lost 5 starters on Defense due to injuries. By Game 8 we were playing more scout players than any other NCAA team because almost every starter was injured and out for 1-3 games. At the end of the season, we had 2-3 starters left un injured in total that ended the season - 1 was drafted in the 3rd round. It was why Frost concentrated on conditioning. The next season, we had a lot of players back, we had more experienced back ups, and team morale was "We can only get better."

USF has not had a winning season since 2017. USF does not have a fanbase. USF does not have the facilities to compete in their own conference. USF does not have the money to invest in their program. USF has been pointing their finger at everyone other than themselves. My honest opinion is that they need to find a coach near the end of his career who will stay there and make that school their legacy. GOL did that for us. They need a coach who will bring stability to their program and their fanbase needs to understand change will come over 3-5 years because their program is so far behind CUSA and Sun Belt schools. Marshall and FAU have better facilities!
Agreed. My point is that Frost would be a good choice if they could get him. Will they? Probably not.

At this point, Frost needs to pick his next Coaching gig really well. He has the money to sit back and not worry about life but if he decides to get back on the carousel, then he needs to coach somewhere that he will have to show he can win and have continued success. If Frost were to go to USF, he would have to clean house and start building at the ground floor including facilities. They only just broke ground on the practice field. No matter what USF does, it looks like they will not make the right choice. Their track record for 14 years has been wrong.

Though you have to check out the insanity over at the USF Forum. Hoping we are never in that situation! https://www.thebullspen.com/forum/25-usf-south-florida-bulls-athletics/

Frost to USF talk is probably 1/2 jest and the other half intriguing. I personally think Frost will be OC in Pac-12 maybe UCLA with his guy Chip, or I can see him back at Oregon in some capacity which might be the best move for him for a couple of years to allow the disaster at Nebraska to fade away a bit..at the same time a guy like Frost likely will be seeking redemption sooner than later. In all honesty it's a great fit for both USF and Frost. Frost would get a clean slate, he will recruit athletes..at first USF fans may be skeptical of the hire but Frost still has ability to energize a fan base...Most USF fans will refer to what he did in '16 and '17 and chalk up Nebraska to an untenable position...Frost would also have a relatively easy schedule in the AAC, hence an easier path to success. I don't see Frost jumping at it, if the phone call comes but I can see him pondering and USF going all in...

Big risk for Frost, though, going to that clown show. If he does not replicate the success he had here in very short order, it will do nothing to help alleviate the narrative that he is/was nothing without MM….true or not true that will be the story.

Exactly, look at charlie strong. Had success at louisville and uf and then shit the bed at usf. Quinton flowers earned him another opportunity but he was never successful after

Here is what I will add to that..UCF’s real turnaround was 0-12 to bowl eligible in one season. Media likes to skip to 13-0 season. 2016 happened with fans nearly booing MM off the field late in that season and in the cure bowl. He did have a lot of O’Leary talent to work with but he did also recruit some of the best athletes we have ever seen.

Don’t mistake me for a supporter of his. I was not a fan how he handled his departure but I do believe he is a smart guy with tremendous pedigree and great mentors. His one mistake was being too loyal to his crew of coaches. Taking that whole staff wasn’t the best call. He should have taken one or two and then hired fresh assistants with B10/P5P5 experience.

I’m pretty sure he’s learned a lot from
Nebraska. He’s 45 I believe so he’s prob got 2 decades of coaching in him. I can see him staying at a program like usf for 6-7 years, fundraise and build facilities. He can win alot in new AAC, which I don’t think is as tough as Sun Belt over next few years.

usf is unlikely to see P5 anytime in the next decade and expectations there are low as it is. If the guy wins 5 games , he will be seen as a hero and Tampa
boosters would shower the guy & in 7 years or so he can spend his final 10-15 years at a P5 to finish his redemption.

It is well known his wife likes Florida and he still has lots of friends and connections in the state. Don’t be shocked if there is smoke coming this end once the “Gruden rumor circus” ends…

The other logical option for usf would be Tom Herman or Lebby. Lebby might be another name to watch..Herman is too much of an egomaniac.

Frost can do better and I think he may not want to be a Head Coach again right away . Like I have said before I think he goes Power 5 coordinator route first or heads to the NFL as a position coach

I do enjoy their optimism in getting a top-tier coach when the list of programs they're competing with to date is: Auburn, Wisconsin, Georgia Tech, Nebraska, Colorado, Arizona State and Charlotte.
They aren’t optimistic. They are realists who understand that almost every college coach wants the opportunity to recruit at a big-time conference school in the heart of South Florida.
Oh, wait… Never mind!

UCF fans seem to be elevating the job more than their own fans

if UCF fans stopped talked talking about them it would be like they don’t exist

Frost is going to be sentenced to the Nick Saban school of coaching rehab, where he earns 30K a year to scout the opposing team. Past grads have done pretty well, so there is hope for him.
Actually my latest theory is that Frost will go to UCLA to work on Chip’s staff as he has previously, and then UCLA gets in a rut and eventually fires Chip, paving the way for Frost to get the UCLA HC position

Oh, and almost forgot - the AAC established rivalry games that will be played every year. Sorry folks, we've been replaced by FAU. 😭

USF should go ahead and petition the AAC to have all games with FAU played in Boca instead of the 2 home and 2 away as it currently stands.

FAU is going to have more fans at all four games anyway, so USF could save the stadium rent for Ray Jay and put it towards Jeff Scott's buyout.

Sure, the Bulls still get traction from reaching No. 2 in the nation in 2007, and they went 21-4 in 2016-17 under Willie Taggart/Charlie Strong.

This is a direct quote from the TN Times about how good a job the USF job is. Are you kidding me? They are telling recruits this stuff and they think they get traction from it? Really?

Hey you know we were ranked 2nd in the country back in 2007 and if you sign with us we can get back there 😂. Does that really work and impress recruits? That's 15 years ago..

Well the hardcore heifer fans never stray very far from their delusions. There is a thread in the crap pen called “ future conference play” that is just hilarious, all about how many conference titles they are winning, when they get their ACC call up, and of course many references to circa 2007, when they were “good”…..so much LOL. No wonder any smart logical fans they ever had jumped off that leaky pirate ship years ago.

Of course there is no mention of their current record of 1-8 or their #1 Bottom 10 ranking.

They also seem to think AAC will be cake walk next year.....

Tulane and Memphis say "Hi"

For real, these teams already destroy you. And ECU and Tulsa have their occasional success as well. I really believe FAU and UTSA are going to do great things. From their perspective, it's a move up with more money. Tons of upside for those two. IDK if there's any past between them but I also think a UTSA/SMU/Rice rivalry could be great for the conference, a 'Best of Texas' G5 so to speak. USF is going to fade away unless they can make a blockbuster coaching hire.

SMU should be the class of the new AAC. They always can get a good QB who gets lost in the numbers at UT or A&M, they are in an incredible recruiting city that I would put up against any single Florida city……and unlike usf, they have rich boosters who can go to war with a lot of P5 teams for NIL offers.

Now that it's legal to do what got SMU the death sentence..... I thought SMU would become a powerhouse NIL-wise.

That had a lot to do with it. Dickerson and the other RB don’t go to this years SMU.
Lol yeah no way does he go there now. I don’t think boosters will put out like they did back then either, with nothing to really win. They were in with TX, Arkansas and I think Oklahoma as well. They were in that “P5” group.
