Georgia Antivoting Law

Colorado had Universal Vote by Mail before Covid 19. posted on this board before that they should be the model. Everyone gets the mail option and they don’t limit drop boxes . They also keep the paper ballots 2 years after the election. It saves them money and they have high turnout.

You had them hooked until they heard higher turnout rate.

And all those things are fine, I guess. Leaving drop boxes unsecured in the notoriously politically shady city of Atlanta is just a bad idea. Georgia got rid of the signature requirement and the ID requirements are so basic it’s ridiculous. Georgia apparently will now offer a few more days of early voting than Colorado. It isn’t now, or has it ever been difficult to vote in Georgia.

my point wasn’t really about the voting rules between the states, it’s about how the MLB hopped on a propaganda wagon and rode out of Georgia. Did Republicans do what they thought most advantageous for themselves? Yea, of course. Was the subsequent narrative provided by the other side also advantageous posturing? Yea, of course. There was never racism involved, unless that’s the main filter one has for interpreting political action by people they disagree with.

Might want to check out School House Rock again. He didn’t have to sign it, he could have vetoed.

He also supported the bill.
Duh.

Given the crap he and his Secretary of State have gotten from Trump and his followers in Georgia, you think he was going do anything other than enthusiastically support the bill??!??

But, by all means, please continue your spiel about this 'non-partisan' bill.
🙄

Conjecture, conjecture, conjecture.

I don't follow your logic here. Kemp was criticized for not taking Trumps side, correct? If this bill is meant to help Republicans win because Trump lost, why would Kemp then sign it? How did Kemp go from being a good guy to a bad guy?

There is no logic, it's a bunch of conjecture and bullshit.

I don't follow your logic here. Kemp is a politician trying to get back in the good graces of his fellow Republicans. He didn't ever want to run afoul of Trump. Trump make him into the villain when he thought Kemp should defy the law, ethics, and common sense, and help him overturn Biden's win in Georgia.

So he was acting ethically then but not now? Is that your contention?

It's not that hard: Kemp was unwilling to kowtow to Trump's crazyass demands for multiple reasons. But this bill was a golden opportunity to get back in the party's good graces.

There’s no reason to believe it did have anything to do with it. Kemp wasn’t on Trump’s side in pursuing overturning GA results. I don’t know where you’re even getting this from. Trump retweeted someone saying both Raffensperger and Kemp should be in jail. So it’s your contention that now Kemp is suddenly dressing down and demoting the GA sec of state AFTER there’s no more pressure from the POTUS to do it?

Under the new system, there’s nobody for Trump to call and pressure, unless he wants to do that to the whole legislature.

Wouldn’t you think it would be more difficult to corrupt/blackmail/bribe an entire group of people than just one elected official?

You don't think the stupid state legislature that entertained farting RUDY GIULIANI and his nutjob witnesses to discuss Dominion changing votes won't overturn the results of a valid election?

I have some beach property in Boise to sell you if you believe that.

That's what the bill is trying to address. More machines, more hours, more days.
Which clearly means one thing.....it's more RACISTS! How dare they open up more places and times! it's also more secure.

You know this how evil racist Republicans should sell this. You know by having secure monitored drop boxes it keeps white supremacists from vandelizing drop boxes in primarily black neighborhoods. By requiring your state issued ID number on your ballot it prevents the white master from denying your signature and ensure you are franchised and your vote will be protected . By extending days and hours you will have more opportunity to thwart white supremacists stopping you from voting.

I truly don't understand the mind of a leftist. Georgia improves access and at the same time protects the sanctity of the vote and it's somehow racist. It seems making sure every legal vote counts and thwarts illegal activity ,thus actually ensuring all votes count black and white just makes sense.

The only racism involved in this is that liberals presuppose that black people are incapable of following the same set of rules that white people are capable of following.

The Georgia Republicans have a credibility problem. They are like the little kid that cried wolf one too many times. When they might have some good points, the public looks at them with suspicion and says, "Yeah, riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiight, kid, we've heard this story before."

Shuck,
Why do you hate accountability? Why do you hate having a secure and trusted voting system? Why do you embrace fraud?

I don't give a rat's hind end about Republicans or Democrats . These are two private clubs that run our lives . There is no official provision for political parties in our Constitution. we are stuck with these bafoons ,but I don't want to be stuck with a weak voting system with no security. The vote is sacred . one person one vote and it's for citizens only. I don't want people from France or Russia or China or anywhere else having the ability to vote when they are not citizens. I want fair ,honest elections with solid security measures to ensure we remain a strong Republic and devolve into a Banana Republic where political parties steal and cheat.

My Coco comes from Venezuela. It was once the jewel of South America. Between Hugo Chavez and Maduro they ran that country into a ditch..Sure they get to vote but what does it matter when Madurro magically gets 90% of the vote because their elections are so open and fair . lol. I don't want an one party system and you don't want one either. it's not healthy to not have open honest debate. All the one party states around the globe suck . Preserving the integrity of the vote ensures no one group reigns forever.

Georgia Republicans pass a bill.

Mainstream media and Democrats tell bold-faced lies about the bill.

DaShuckster: “Georgia Republicans have a credibility problem.”

There isn’t wide scale fraud though. GOP would sacrifice voter turnout of millions to prevent one case of fraud. The level of fraud that occurs and actually impacts a vote count is minimal and of little consequence to a determining a popular candidate in an election. Much more impactful is turnout of legal voters. The GOP is not after a “fraud free election”. They want to depress voter turnout which is one of the last remaining plays in their playbook.

If they wanted to depress turnout why did they expand the number of days of early voting?

Whether the cumulative effect of the legislation you reference will increase or decrease turnout remains to be seen. But the top 10 states for voter turnout went blue in 2020 and 8 of the top 10 for lowest voter turnout went red in 2020. So it would appear any measures to intended to increase turnout would be detrimental to efforts to get GOP candidates elected. Again we don’t know what the effect will be exactly.

Then why is the left freaking out about this? You have a reasonable position in saying that "we don't know yet", but that is nothing like what we hear from the media and leftist politicians. I don't understand the disconnect.

I can’t speak for what “the left” is doing. Just giving my opinion.

Do you think the effect of increasing early voting days could be anything other than increasing turnout?

Why not? You tend to be a left-leaning person, right? I'd say you would have a better understanding of why the left is crafting this narrative than someone on the far right.

Because racist white men just had their asses handed to them in a historically racist state, and want to make sure those black folks don't ever try and get uppity again by voting them out?

Meh. Platitudes and strawman arguments really don't carry much value. Claiming that something is racist just because "it's racist" doesn't carry much weight anymore. You kind of have to point out exactly why something shows preference to white people and give some kind of explanation for it now.

Do you have any evidence or studies that show that it's easier for white people in Georgia to get an ID or that it's more difficult for black people to bring their own water bottle when they go to the ballot box?

Because black people can't get an ID? Oh which everyone else has to do?
Shuckster and chemmie think black people are too stupid to know how to get an ID, fill out a ballot, or bring a water bottle with them so they don't die of dehydration.

You must be doing really well in life by assuming the worst about everyone who disagrees with you.

Y'all can come up with all the crap you want, but this law has a single intent: to get less black people to vote in Georgia. It is already well established that small barriers to vote have a disproportionate effect on black voters.

That is the only intent.
That is why it is racist.

Because white people can overcome small barriers much easier than black people?

I'm sorry but no matter how you try to spin this, what you are saying is that a law that applies to all people equally is a bigger burden to some people, which infers that some groups of people are superior to others.

Tell me, does this law make it more difficult for a redneck white trash hillbilly to vote as well, or does it only apply to black people?

The white supremacist hot take from Chemmie. Yikes.

if you're too poor/irresponsible to get a $20 ID, you don't deserve a say.

Not everyone is equal, stop lying to yourself.
