Jan 6th

If Pence hadn’t then it would have been simple - it goes to SCOTUS immediately , they render the action unconstitutional, and the verification of the election is done ASAP.

This is why we have co-equal branches of government.

One of the core foundations of our democracy is the peaceful transition of power. Be it Republican or Democrat, the loser of the election graciously (sometimes through gritted teeth) congratulated the winner and we moved on --- until Trump.

What exactly IS "Hail Mary legal challenges" and "deranged weirdos rioting" if it's not a threat to our democracy? Again, it's nothing more than the "you can't take Trump's sh!t seriously" defense.

The reality is that the Republicans on Capital Hill were more than happy to be Trump's lackies if only VP Pence had 'done his patriotic duty' and thrown out a bunch of EC votes. And for what pray tell?

You said yourself that the whole thing was stupid. Hell, Trump is STILL telling any fool who will listen that he won but the election was stolen from him!!! You think that crap is GOOD for our country??? From now on, we'll have to hold our breath and deal with national elections like we were a g'damn third world country. But hey, there's nothing at all harmful about this stuff, right?*

You still haven’t answered my questions. Mostly because you can’t.

Ideally that would happen, but we have no clue as to how it would have actually played out. The Supreme Court is made up of people, and it is possible that people will react differently than you think they will, especially considering that you know they would have likely received threats prior to their ruling.

Which would have been pretty cool to watch from a civics perspective.

Whether you think it couldve worked or not isnt really the point. The point is whether they tried it or not. There have been many failed coups throughout history, that doesnt mean they arent serious situtations just because they didnt work. But from Jan 6th, to Trump trying to get the GA SOS to "find votes", etc etc, it seems pretty obvious none of what happened post election was normal. So the question is, why? Why wasnt anything normal if we are supposed to believe that Trump was just going to accept the loss and let that be that. And BTW, Trump still hasnt conceded. That is a formality, but still rather odd.
This is like saying that someone is guilty of bank robbery because they tried to turn a doorknob into an employees-only area of the bank, but found it locked.

It may be the tiniest first step to potentially cleaning out the safe, but it’s so far from being a serious attempt it’s not even worth considering.

If there was only one small attempt, maybe you could make that claim, but with all of it together I dont think what you are saying is accurate.

You’re a joke.
Says the poster who is incapable of comprehending how all the stupid sh!t Trump did was an attack on our democracy.

We've gone from a history of peaceful transitions of power to saying it's all good because if Trump's minions had been successful in blocking the EC certification in Congress...(drumroll)....

Yeah boy, 85, THAT would have certainly 'proven' everything is swell with our democracy, right? :)

By the way, since the election, many state legislatures have been rewriting their state laws surrounding the votes of their Electoral College electors. Hmmmm, what's that about, Mister "I see nothing, NOTHING!"?

Which states?

The Sunday morning shows all had 'January 6 Specials' leading up the the anniversary of the Capitol riot. The timeline and the evidence already uncovered is impossible to pass off.

It's mind-boggling that so many people are unwilling to remove their red jerseys and do what's best for our country. If our elected leaders had any guts, Trump would have already been thrown in a prison cell next to his warrior, the QAnon Shaman.

How many Capitol hill police officers committed suicide afterwards, and why?

And now we have texts from Hannity who apparently knew Trump was attempting to steal the election and on Jan 5th texted he 'was very worried about the next 48 hours". If this was some type of spontaneous thing like some of you suggest, why was Hannity worried about it and texting about it the day before? The worst part that he then goes on TV and tries to downplay it and blames it on "bad actors".

I actually have some new-found respect for Hannity after hearing this report. He allegedly had a phone conversation where he told Trump, in no uncertain terms, to STFU about the election. But afterwards, he reported to COS, Mark Meadows, that "the call didn't go well."

The problem is he then goes on TV and down plays it and even tried to blame it on bad actors, just like Ingraham tried to blame antifa when they both knew damn well it was Trump people. If he were actually worried about being truthful and a serious commentator, we wouldnt have needed these texts to know where he stands.

I agree. I just found it refreshing that SOMEBODY in Trump's inner-circle of advisors didn't encourage his batsh!t crazy notions of how to thwart the will of the people.

I am glad he tried to talk sense into him, but if people like Hannity arent also going to pull the curtain back so their viewers know what has been going on, then I dont think that matters that much. He will still support him in '24, knowing full well he is a psychopath that doesnt need to be in office. THey built up Trump so much as being some sort of savior, they know if they turn on him now its going to cost them money and viewers. So I get your point to an extent, but I think how Hannity and the like try and present this to the American people is far more important than just what he was texting to Meadows and talk about in private conversations with Trump.

January 6th was a drunken panty raid much akin to the panty raid scene from "Revenge of the Nerds". The people there got a little rowdy, yelled in the hallways, took some pics with the cops, blew off some steam, and then left.

Football games are more rowdy.

Are you on Thorazine ? If not, you should be. If you are, then please talk to your doctor about upping your dosage, ok ?

"Nobody has a bigger problem with hypocrisy in this country than liberals."

I love how all of the scumbags on the left were ok with occupying the Capitol during the Kavanaugh hearings, yet are losing their rag much like a menopausal woman over this. I mean, the left basically tried to burn the entire country down in 2020. In addition, the left LOVED to threaten Trump and his supporters with physical violence (Maxine Waters, Antifa, BLM, Cumalot Harris, that bald chick, Keith Olbermann, etc...) but the minute you tell one of them about their hypocrisy, they lose it.

Well they are a delusional bunch for the most part, so you have to realize what you're dealing with right out of the gate. They truly believe that 1/6 was as big of a deal as 9/11 or Pearl harbor, when in reality it isn't even on the level of the OKC bombing. Now the democrats in congress want to put up a 1/6 memorial, lol.

Liberals have two-watt lightbulbs for brains. If their common sense IQ were any lower, it would freeze water. This is why I don't even look at liberals are fully adult people. They are literally the flotsam and jetsam of the zoological order.

Good grief. You've gotta shake your head and roll your eyes at the post-riot spin-doctoring we've got going on around here. Who called it "as big a deal as 9/11 or Pearl Harbor?" If anybody is attempting to reinvent the riot, it's our board's Trumpsters. Case in point from just a few minutes ago:

No need to reinvent it. It was a bunch of morons acting like morons. We all saw it. No need to make it out to be anything more than that.

This is why it’s important to fight back on the conspiracy theory that the GOP was behind some coup attempt. Because Democrats fight dirty as hell and they never stop. Here’s the guy responsible for the Fusion GPS strategy that wasted more than $20 million taxpayer dollars and was the foundation of a movement that subverted a Presidency for years. He’s now asserting his intent to use the legal system to remove rightfully elected Republican Congressmen or at the least keep them from running for re-election. I wonder what all those people who screamed their love of Democracy in December of ‘20 will think about this maneuver.

This is what an insurrection looks like
Yeah, your's looks darker.

I heard this morning that Trump had to be talked out of a live, 'counter-programming' speech about Jan. 6th tomorrow from Mar-a-Lago.

Yeah, it would have been an incredibly stupid idea. But the supposed reason he's backing off is because all the TV news networks indicated they wouldn't be covering it.

The only way you can think this is a conspiracy is if you just ignore every thing that keeps coming out.

Well, that and the fact that the insurrectionists in Kazakhstan have also taken the airport, set fire to the presidents house, and are demanding the resignation of pretty much everybody left in the government. Other than that, just darker.

So basically they did it better, so that means what happened here was nothing?

I'm just saying that it's being built into something way bigger than it should be made into.

What % would you put on the odds of them having been successful in overturning the election?

Your whole view of this is because it didnt work, means its no big deal. I guess if someone shoots at someone trying to kill them, but misses, then no big deal right?

It also isnt just about this time. You also have to consider that they could learn from mistakes and might actually be able to pull it off next time. I dont think it will be in this manner, I think it will be through the elections and electors and all of that, but either way, it would be the end of Democracy in this country. And if if someone is able to pull it off, it wont be something that can just be fixed over night, it will take years to correct course, if we ever correct course at all. We arent living in normal times and if we dont take this seriously, it could certainly end up being successful in the not to distant future.

I'm saying that if you guys keep trying to convince people that it was SO close to overturning the election, that might encourage people to try again. We're better off making fun of how pathetic the whole thing was.

Really? So it isnt the fault of the people who tried, it is the fault of the people who talk about it?

Except a lot of prominent people arent making fun of it, they are just pretending like there was nothing do it, or in the case of the Hannity's of the world trying to blame it on antifa and all that bullshit. But with all the texts that keep coming out, there was obviously something to it. You dont ignore that, you punish the people responsible so that in the future others wont be so quick to go along with it.
