Real Leadership in times of Crisis

You are still missing my point. I was simply responding to Crazy who said we are basically 60 days behind China. But China took a lot more drastic measures then we did, so trying to put ourselves on a timeline with them is pointless.

They took different measures, not more drastic ones. We're dumping a huge amount of money into finding remediation that doesnt tank our economy whereas china wasn't concerned about whether people would starve to death.

Nothing to do with my point.

Yeah, Wayne. Make excuses for the Administration being caught flat-footed. Our Blowhard-in-Chief and his Clown Act Administration thought it was a waste of money to have scientists on the Government dole to prepare for some 'futuristic, sci-fi' sh*t.

But it's all good. Despite our slow response, listen to all of Trump's talking heads: They'll tell you Trump has it all "under control."
i dont know if you trolling or just stupid. neither is good.

its almost like weve never seen this version of the virus before so accurate tests never existed and had to be created, and sometimes those tests have false positives so you have to go back and recreate the tests before they are ready to be sent to the factories to be mass produced and then sent out to hospitals across a very large country.... all of which are trumps fault
The refusal of the WHO test early on meant that we had to do molecular analysis of the samples which is labor intensive. Which did slow the testing but they tested a good number of people that met the moderate to high possibility of infection criteria. The first RT-PCR test kits were giving positives on the control in some kits and thus couldn’t be used in a lot of places. They opened up the test criteria as more testing was made available. Now they’re fast-tracking a number of tests, including a high-throughput test that will far surpass the performance of every other test available. HHS also said they have millions of kits that will ship imminently.

The gene sequence was provided to GenBank in mid-January. It’s been about 8 weeks. 8 weeks from nothing to millions is not that bad. Could they have used the WHO test or the faulty tests to help inform quarantine decisions? Possibly. But would higher numbers of presumptive or false positives only fed the media hysteria that is causing so many problems without actually helping the situation at all? Absolutely.

The only thing that has shown to be effective against the spread in any country is social distancing.

The United States doesn't want to do that but it's the only way we are going to slow it down enough so that we don't overload our medical system.

We need to tell people, don't fly don't cruise don't go to sporting events, work from home, do distance learning for school.

So far that's been the only thing that has worked. Tax cuts don't seem to be the answer.

Right. Since Trump is floating payroll tax cuts as a way to defeat the virus and stop spread. That’s exactly the premise for suggesting a payroll tax.

More great commentary from Shook Chicken

Trump is following the Obama playbook. He's taking advantage of the situation to make changes unrelated to the issue for ideological reasons.

He is suggesting it in response to the virus, but tax cuts aren't going to stimulate an economy if people aren't going out to eat, shopping, events etc because they are scared of getting sick.

I have news for you- this insane hysteria will pass some day once everyone realizes this is not a super virus that’ll kill everyone.

And at that time we need people to have more money in their pocket to go spend, since the media and fear mongers are in process of driving our economy into the shitter as we speak

This has absolutely nothing to do with Obama. Trump is desperate to keep the economy rolling because it is an election year, it is just that simple. The problem, is that events people cancelled, people staying home, etc, is going to slow the economy no matter what the government tries to do. There best bet is it keep this contained as possible and get things back to normal as quickly as possible, but I am not sure they know how to do that.

I don't think anyone thinks this is a permanent thing, so thanks for that bit of obvious information.

Which could be done after this is over. Doing it now is pointless. After we see how much it hurts the economy and see what we are dealing with, I would agree it would make sense to look at some solutions, but doing it now is simply pointless.

Lol, you're pissed about trump not getting out in front of things and now you're mad that he's being proactive.

It isn't being proactive, it is just an excuse to give more tax cuts. Giving someone a tax break isn't going to fill restaurants or shopping malls if everyone is concerned about getting a virus. It is just that Republican's answer to everything is tax cuts so this is the simplistic and pointless idea they came up with.

I think normal people are more concerned with containing the spread of this more so than they are for more tax cuts at this moment. But again, you guys think tax cuts are a solution for everything. Explain to me how a tax cut is going solve this? Are people going to shove the few extra dollars up their ass and then be immune to the virus? So they keep shopping and going out?

Dead on response, Cubs79. Now that's what I call OWNING the debate.

Please show me where anyone said a payroll tax cut will stop the virus, or just admit you’re pushing bullshit now and you’re here just to bitch about anything Trump suggests

Then what is the purpose of it? I am not just bitching at everything Trump suggests. I am fine with a stimulus at some point depending on how exactly this plays out, but a payroll tax cut isn't it. Actually helping out the hourly workers who might lose hours, or people who work on tips that might lose tips, etc etc. These are the types people the stimulus should be directed towards.

Dont sweat it. They think a tax increase will fix everything including the climate.

Nobody said anything about a tax increase and you are intentionally changing the subject. So I will ask you the same question then. Explain to me what a payroll tax cut is going to do to help anything in the middle of a pandemic scare?

Jesus Christ, do you have any idea what carnage is occurring in our economy? Unreal.

Good to know your entire premise was bullshit and you’ve admitted it

Why even bother posting if all you are going to say is something completely meaningless. You addressed absolutely nothing in this post.

Good lord. Nobody thinks a tax cut will stop the virus, it is meant to be a stimulus, which it wont do either. That is the point. It is just an excuse for more tax cuts without actually addressing any of the issues.

Nothing. I thought I made it clear earlier that this is just using a crisis to advance an ideological objective.

Every President in our modern history during times of crisis has gone on TV and had one of those tried-and-true, Presidential heart-to-heart, "fireside chats" to calm fears.

Trump was too busy golfing at his resort last weekend to bother. He's left Pence to continue giving us promises that a million testing kits (still far from enough) are on their way in his daily updates. For what it's worth, Pence said the same thing last week.

What sort of grown adult needs the President to go on TV and pat him on the head and say “It’s ok boy, it’s ok”?

What sort of President plays golf during a national crisis?
Let’s see. This “crisis” can go on for weeks, months or years. I think that the president should be on lockdown in the White House 24/7 and never can relax to play a round of golf

No president ever did any simple leisure activity during a SIMILAR SITUATION IN THE HISTORY OF THE PRESIDENCY.

Or is it that it’s Trump and the same TDS culprits are showing how bad the TDS disease is? Right guys?

Oh., buy the way, Trump took a shit today. What president takes a dump during a national crisis??

It’s an embarrassment. He’s like a stressed out puppy dog. The guy is losing all his mental faculties. It isn’t long that he poops and pisses on himself on the national stage. He’s a demented old grandpa who needs close protection

Shookster is a totally lunatic Nancy boy embarrassment

Trump doesn't give a sh*t about the corona virus other than how it hurts his reelection bid.

No matter what's going on, he plays golf at one of his resorts just about every single weekend -- on the taxpayer's dime of course.
