Real Leadership in times of Crisis

Every President in our modern history during times of crisis has gone on TV and had one of those tried-and-true, Presidential heart-to-heart, "fireside chats" to calm fears.

Trump was too busy golfing at his resort last weekend to bother. He's left Pence to continue giving us promises that a million testing kits (still far from enough) are on their way in his daily updates. For what it's worth, Pence said the same thing last week.
Even if he did, you'd complain about everything he said.

You people stick your head in the sand and ignore the fact that our government is clueless about where we stand as a country with the corona virus. You're left with the same refrain we hear from Trump: uh, hopefully it will get better by summer.

And WHY is this the case? Because, unlike other countries, our testing program is woefully inadequate.

Inadequate like the WHO tests that were 30% inaccurate?

It's not just with testing. Ireland signed an emergency bill to provide paid sick leave to everyone so people don't go to work sick. Italy is suspending mortgage payments, Iceland is doing similar things. In America, we are wanting to cut payroll taxes because our ruling party has 1 response for every situation.

You mean like our initial rollout? We've been playing catch-up ever since.

But never fear, Pence keeps promising and promising and promising us that we'll get there...um, eventually.

Well I guess if you're ok with having a 30% false negative rate they should have just stuck with the first test, like the WHO did.

Yeah, you nailed me. I'm okay with false negative test results.

How about the great job that Senator Ron Johnson is doing as Chair of the Homeland Security Committee? During these troubled times, he's johnny-on-the-spot to do his part in insuring that everything possible is being done to guard us against the corona virus.....uh, no?

His committee is meeting today to discuss an investigation of Hunter Biden? Really? Hunter Biden is a pressing national security risk? Claire McCaskill said it best. Johnson is "an embarrassing tool."

He's not a scientist so I don't know what you think he should be doing. The response team is fully staffed and funded. Are you suggesting they arent doing their jobs?

I am suggesting that the corona virus pandemic is a hell of a lot more of a "National Security" issue than Hunter Biden. If Congressional Republicans want to go after Hunter Biden, I could think of a lot of oversight committees that would be more appropriate to turn to in a political effort to smear Joe than Johnson's Homeland Security committee.

You're right. Investigation a guy that was helping the Chinese get anti-vibration technology for military weapons and aircraft isnt that big of a deal when we have a virus to deal with.

Yeah, boy. This is a Very Serious and Important Investigation...that will last for eight months.

Trump doesn't give a sh*t about the corona virus other than how it hurts his reelection bid.

No matter what's going on, he plays golf at one of his resorts just about every single weekend -- on the taxpayer's dime of course.
He also reportedly sleeps only 4 hours a night and works most of the other 20 hours. What's your point?

8 months would be pretty good. We're still waiting for results on all of the things the last administration vowed to "get to the bottom of" and "hold people responsible" for.

It probably wont take that long. Chris Murphy is filing complaints because the administration is providing documents so quickly after they had delayed on others for months.

Now, because it's convenient, he's back to the concept that Congress can only do one thing at a time. But when there were complaints about them wasting time on impeachment, our favorite lefty shill was touting exactly the opposite position.

I had hoped and prayed that this Amateur Hour Administration could somehow make it through the year without some major crisis hitting that required real leadership out of Trump.

Sadly, we didn't make it.

LOL! Very true

Biden would literally get confused and not even remember there is a virus situation. Waiting for that leadership. ;)

Why so much time talking about a travel ban??? IT'S HERE!!!! Why spend so little time on what we're doing on the testing front?

I dont know. I am not against the ban (although UK is still allowed for some reason), but getting out in front of it here is obviously the more pressing issue.

No fooling. On the testing front, all we got was a Pence-like, "we're working on it."

Shookster thinks leadership in action is someone willing to change his soiled diaper

Is anyone paying attention to what is happening in Italy? They are literally setting up triage like facilities because their medical facilities are so overwhelmed. They are about 10 days ahead of us from when it was first reported there, so hopefully we end up more like S Korea than Italy, but S Korea seemed a lot more prepared than us or Italy. People trying to compare this to the flu need to realize this is something different.

That is kind of how I am. I think I would be fine if I got it, but my parents are certainly in the age bracket where it might not be good.

just need to encourage them to stay away from crowds and continue practicing safe hygiene. Luckily, mine don’t need to leave the house all the time.
