The Coronavirus thread - 3/30 Trump accuses NY hospital workers of stealing PPE.

It is ok to say Pence wasn’t the best choice. It won’t kill you. He is not the best choice.
I dont have an opinion on who would be the best choice so I guess I dont know what to say about it. Maybe the director of the Mayo clinic would be the best choice.

Edit: actually whoever runs the UNMC unit that has been tasked with the quarantines of Ebola and covid-19 cases may have been the best choice

Democrats a month ago: “REMOVE TRUMP, Pence would be far better!”

Democrats today: “Pence is an evil jerk who as Vice President has no qualification to run what is a Federal Agency response administrative and resource allocation operation!”

"Trump is at rallies calling this a hoax."

I love this spin. He said the politicization of coronavirus was their latest hoax. Based on FCs posts in this thread, he was right.

He was the governor of a state, that's a pretty big administrative role so I'm pretty sure he's as qualified for the role as any lawyer or scientist.

And his track record health issues as Governor was terrible.

The most concerning part though, is that they are making him approve health officials statements before they make them publicly. Meaning, every official statement we will hear will be filtered through this administration, so we will have no clue how accurate it is. Trump has already said the media is covering this to make him look bad, so based on that, it isnt difficult to assume they are going to try and sell this in a way that won't cause him to be criticized.

At some point the reality tv president isnt a joke anymore, and just liking a guy because he trolls the libs becomes dangerous. We dont know how bad this will get, but we do know it is already here, and we do know it will continue to spread. I am sorry but I have zero confidence in this administration to either tell us the truth or to seriously take the advice of the experts.

He says that the Dems are politicizing this but then politicizes the virus 3 minutes later.

Exactly. Trump is concerned about the market and economy because it is the only thing he can point to as a "win". So the market falling and this causing a hit to the economy (which it likely will to at least some degree) is his biggest concern. He is the one, and will continue to be the one to politicize it for that reason. Most people just want to see this contained as best as possible and arent overly concerned about a temporary fall in the market. John Kennedy, a Trump loving Republican Rep. from Louisiana called out the bullshit of the Homeland security director who came across as completely unprepared when they had hearings on this earlier this week, because even Republicans know this isnt a situation for partisan politics to come into play.

The media just asked a question implying that Trump silenced a doctor from speaking out and the actual doctor right behind him said that was total bullshit straight away

Disinformation is incredible from the media and Democrats

Yeah, boy! We all need to settle down and just trust in Trump, right 85?

Clearly you hate accountability.

Trump didn’t silence any doctors. He just appointed Pence to oversee what information doctors are allowed to make public. So we have no idea if anyone was in fact silenced.

No actually we do. See, the doctor in question was right fuking behind Trump and answered the question without hesitation.

So I either believe the doctor himself or you. Hmmmm hard decision.

What “doctor in question” are you talking about and what does it have to do with needing approval from Pence to provide information?

I’m talking about this doctor who was literally standing behind Trump as our shit tier media asked the question

Wrong...Trump should personally be making a vaccine for the Corona. I hold him accountable with the spread all around the world.

I guess two people have the Corona in the Tampa area.

It is going to spread, All they can do at this point is try to slow it down as much as possible. And hope like the flu it will naturally slow its self down over the summer. Then have everything possible in place to treat those who get it this fall/winter. Highly unlikely any vaccine will be ready before next year. And certainty not in the quantity needed.

I never said he was the worst, but there are better options.

Like who? Why? The job of whoever heads this up, essentially, is to assure that resources are deployed as quickly and as efficiently as possible based upon what the doctors and CDC are advising, right? I don't know how the VP isn't best suited for that given he has a direct line to the President to move appropriated money as needed, and he has the better relationship with Congress to get new funds approved if needed.

I already gave one above. It’s a more logical choice. Again, it’s not going to kill anyone to question the choice. It’s not going to set me off on some safe space seeking mission because I’m triggered, either.

Yeah... definitely going to spread. If you're contiguous before showing symptoms that will be really hard to stop. Hopefully just limited spread at this point.

It's now pretty well theorized that alot of people catch it and NEVER develop symptoms or they are extremely mild. So mild that people don't even seek care by a doctor. A scientist on CNBC this morning said the CDC is working with the theory now that COVID has been transmitted through SEattle for 6 weeks or more now, and yet it wasn't noticed since almost every who contracted it had little to no real symptoms.

If that's true, it's a game changer from a numbers perspective. It probably means the mortality rate plummets if you factor in huge amounts of people with the virus who don't notice.

It's also interesting that a new report from China said that 0 kids aged 9 or under died from COVID. Most kids had little to not actual symptoms. On the other hand, influenza is extremely hard on young kids.

Pence would not have been my first choice, quite frankly. Ben Carson, perhaps?
i understand why trump went with pence. he gave his "second in charge" a big role in a highly visible virus scare. i am assuming pence wants to run for potus after trump is done with this second term. this was a political move.

that said, he really shouldve gone with ben carson on this one. its the most logical choice.

IMHO, this whole thing is more hype than serious threat. And moronic stuff like the Trump Administration's handling of it only heightens the anxiety for many people because they fear a national cover-up.

The way I look at it, if there were people infected in the State of Washington who went 'unnoticed' for weeks (and there are), it means the symptoms for those folks weren't that bad. I don't know about you guys, but when I've caught the normal flu bug in the past--I knew it immediately! :)

Now I'm not saying it isn't serious and that we shouldn't all be careful. But I strongly suspect that the panic is because when most people hear the word, 'pandemic,' their minds immediately go to all the horror movies they've seen over the years about the human civilization being almost completely wiped out by one.

The only people who fear a "national cover up" are lunatics like you who obsess over hating the President daily.

I agree with all of this, but what makes Trumps response "moronic"? This whole thing is 2 months old and we have a response team put together within 2 weeks of the first domestic case. It sure seems to me like he's as top of it as anyone could reasonably expect.

Surprised nobody has mentioned Trump signing an 8.3 billion dollar emergency spending bill for this.

The bill has $3B for vaccine funding. I get that we want a vaccine ASAP but it's not clear to me what throwing $3B at that does. It'd be nice if someone could explain how a huge infusion of cash gets a vaccine out quicker given there are testing requirements and approval processes that money can't bypass.
