DG enters transfer portal

I guess I didn’t watch this year…? I think it’s a loss, but not a huge one. DG was not KZ
Ok, we went from leading the nation in passing to not being able to throw the ball at all vs. a pitiful USF team. With Gabriel under center we put up big points against Boise and Louisville to not being able to do much of anything vs. the dregs of the AAC, you may have watched, but you weren’t computing what you were seeing.

If you think that the offense without DG was anywhere near what it was with him, then I agree, you weren’t watching closely.
My biggest goal for team is to do well in the Big 12 and make sure we don’t get left behind in realignment. DG was better than our stable this year, but was he the man, the way KZ was? I can think of several UCF QBs I would rather have in a high pressure situation.

It’s possible that I don’t know how to “compute” football. It’s also possible that there was more going this year and last than you are factoring in.

So it’s only a big game if he loses? Why is Louisville a big game but not Stanford or Georgia Tech? Makes no sense. To me a big game is a trophy game or a game against a P5 team as a G5. Or a ranked matchup or a CCG.
When you're in the G5 and only allowed to lose 1-2 games a year to make it into a meaningful bowl game, yes. KZ, Bortles understood this. Guess DG was more focused on printing out more socks with his face on them.

I mean DG played this year I don’t need to prognosticate what he would’ve done. I saw the offense with him and without him and the difference was clear.

So how can he win a big game if the same game is only big if he loses? I think you have a logical fallacy going on here.

Seems like you’re confident you have it figured out. I still think it’s more complicated than that. I’m ok agreeing to disagree.

it is going to be a long uncertain offseason…recruiting is good but the QB development and playcalling questions and doubt just got louder . Seen a few comments from other teams fans who are confused by this move

I’m super confused by this too. Head scratchingly confused. He was one of my favs of all time…someone should put together a sock burning party.

I can’t help but feel his business “team” probably gave him some bad advice.

This guy probably had something to do with it. Got in his ear

Are you capable of understanding context? The team without him is nowhere near as good. All losses are not created equal. We had 6 teams on the schedule that will end up 3-9 or worse. Last year we were respectable in losses to teams at the top of the conference. Not so much this year.
I've got to admit that I'm jealous of that kind of schedule right now.

Def…I saw his tweet, based my observation off it. These people have their own self interests, no doubt there were ppl behind the scenes moving the strings.
yeah these guys don’t know Football. the irony is Orlando is probably a bigger NIL market for opportunities than these small towns like Oxford . I guess UF would be bigger bc he could still market Orlando bc the Flagship fanbase but Richardson could be pretty good if he stays there

112 passing yards vs USF yesterday and we're debating whether this is a loss to the team or not. FFS what planet am I living on?

I don't want a dude who doesn't want to be here either but the team is worse today - debate over. All I want now is for my coach to earn his bread and fix this ish. Another season with Mikey and I'm selling my duckets on Stubhub.

This just follows the pattern. We love and talk guys up while here. Then when they leave it’s all of the sudden he wasn’t very good. The funniest was DW. He walked on water until he left. Then his scheduling was bad.

Same thing is happening with Gus right now. A lot of warning signs, but instead it's all the of the players and Heupel's fault.

I was pretty early on the Heup doubt …a little of the same with Gus but the difference is recruiting and the hope that maybe he sees the light on more of a hands off w playcalling

Thoughts from the armchair:

- Wish him the best of luck and thankful for the time he was with us
- Our "Style" of football has changed, not a fit for DG's brand
- The ability of our OL has to concern DGs prospects, it was another game of Keene is running for his life

This is a big loss.
Yes, we lost the biggest chameleon I've ever seen in my 20 years of following UCF football. Huge amazing stats against bottom dwellers and an interception and pick six specialist against teams with a winning record. Result: an 17-8 record and Cincinnati vaulted to national prominence ahead of us. Such a big loss.

You’re not wrong in the vast majority of cases. It’s the nature of being a fan.

There are exceptions though. I haven’t been the biggest DG fan. But I felt no need to share that until he decided to leave and the reaction has been exaggerated, in my opinion.

In a similar way, I was a big fan of White and Frost and I still like what they did and how they did it. But they’re gone and I feel no need to rave about the past. The loudest voices left are a lot of extremes that think the current people are the GOATs or hate the people that left and are ‘so thankful that they’re gone’.

Hope y’all realize Gus is also one great season from leaving. Trust me when a big time program calls Gus, he’s gone.

Dude is a slick salesman, if you listen to his interviews when he got here, you’ll see what I’m saying.

My hope is that he’s like GOL, old and fed up with blue blood politics. Just with…you know… a much better record and we’re not praying he retires.

Don’t this so. If you listen carefully To his interviews he says things like “I plan to be here for the long term” rather than “I want to be here for the long term”... other things like “if the right coach would stay here long term, they can have a ton of success” rather than “ I want to be the coach to stay here long term to win a championship”

Fortunately Keene will easily outshine Gabriel*

Context: good teams and good quarterbacks need to be able to win close games. DG won only 2 of 9 one-possession games that he started. You may try to explain away all nine of those one possession games and indicate that all nine were "not created equal." Nevertheless, 2 of 9 is not impressive no matter how anyone may slice and spin it.

This is where I stand, maybe no one is asking but since everyone else is saying there opinions why not.

1. Losing DG is a big loss. He’s a very good QB
2. I would’ve loved for him to stay because with him I think we had a shot at the AAC title next year with him and without him we are probably 9-3/8-4 next year.
3. It seems like everyone either thinks he’s the second coming of Jesus or a bottom tier player. He was an extremely good deep ball thrower, a very good all around quarterback, but had flaws that kept him from being great that people also need to realize. I.e. not being able to read a zone defense to save his life. He was very good, but not great.

I’m annoyed he left, might cause us an extra loss or two next year, but we’ll be fine medium to long term (hopefully).

I don’t think anyone is saying that he’s a bottom-tier player. I think a lot of us think he’s similar to Heupel. Good enough at what they do, but with a ceiling that won’t get you where you want to go.

I want UCF in the playoffs, DG was not the guy to get us there. That doesn’t mean he’s a terrible person or football player.

It’s a team game. Games that would be close with him in like Cincy and SMU are now blowout losses.
